Dertien netbalspeelsters van die Hoërskool Brackenfell het daarin geslaag het om WP-kleure vir netbal te verwerf. Hulle dring deur na die WesKaapproewe op 22 en 23 Mei vanjaar. Ons eerstes het die afgelope naweek verloor teen die H/S DF Malan in ‘n skitterende vertoning van skole-netbal. Are your kids stressed or even depressed? Being a kid is great fun – for the most part. But kids can also experience stress and depression. Here’s what to look out for. By Hayden Horner - Health24.com Adults usually view the lives of kids as stress-free since children have no jobs to go to, meetings to attend, or bills to pay. However, psychologists know that kids, just like adults, can experience varying degrees of stress which, if not managed, can lead to serious mental and physical health problems. While some stress can be positive in that it provides the energy needed to tackle a big test or sports event, too much stress can create unnecessary hardship and challenges. When stress becomes drawnout and unmanageable, adult intervention is needed to help the child cope.

As a parent or caregiver, you know your child best and will sense when something is wrong. Explore whether the symptoms you are seeing at home are evident in other settings, get as much collateral information as possible, and act. MY SPICY CHUNKY SWEET CHILLI CHICKEN Serves 6 INGREDIENTS: The Chicken: • 1.5 kg chicken breast fillets, skinned and deboned • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger • 4 cloves garlic, crushed • 1 level teaspoon paprika • 1 heaped teaspoon cumin seeds, toasted and roughly bashed • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

2015 EISTEDDFOD DEELNAME Aristea het vanjaar beide die Junior – sowel as die Senior koor die geleentheid gebied om aan die Tygerberg Eisteddfod deel te neem. Die onderskeie kore het ‘n verskeidenheid werke gelewer wat gewissel het van ligte
vermaaklikheidsliedere tot ‘n interressante verwerking van ‘n Amerikaanse slawelied. Hoewel beide kore goed presteer het, is ons veral trots op die 78,7% verwerf deur die Junior koor. Doen so voort!
MUSIEK Ek het in 2013 besluit om my studies voort te sit, omdat ek ‘n behoefte in my vak nl. Skeppende Kuns, se veld raakgesien het. Die vak Skeppende Kunste le my na aan die hart en ek is opgewonde dat dit deel is van ons skoolkurrikulum, maar die aanbieding en uitvoering daarvan is nie altyd so maklik nie - veral nie as die onderwyser wat dit aanbied nie die nodige vakkennis van al vier kunsvorme nl. dans, musiek, drama en visuele kuns,dra nie. Dit het my gelei tot my M.Ed tesis onderwerp nl. Die persepsies van onderwysers rakende hul eie bevoegdheid ten opsigte van die onderrig van Skeppende Kuns in die Intermediêre fase. Op 23 Maart is die M.Ed Kurrikulumstudie graad aan my toegeken, en ek kyk terug op ‘n avontuur wat my onderwysloopbaan en lewe op baie maniere verryk het. In Maart het ek vetrek na Pretoria om vir twee dae ‘n Musiekproduksie of Revue seminaar by te woon. Dit was aangebied deur Nolte Productions. Tydens die seminaar is daar raad gegee oor beligting, alle tegniese aspekte van ‘n produksie, danschoreografie, verhooggrimering, klankopnames (backtracks), verhoogdekor,
kostuums, oefenskedules ens. Ongeveer 70 onderwysers van regoor Suid-Afrika het hierdie seminaar bygewoon. Ons het gesing en gedans dat die biesies bewe! Enige onderwyser sal baat by hierdie seminaar! Die grootste verrassing was egter die splinternuwe Medeli Elektroniese Klawerbord wat ons skool in ‘n gelukkige trekking gewen het. Hiermee gaan ons nou lekker kan “jive”.

THE PAROW NORTH MARIMBA
On 4 June 2015, the Parow North Marimba ensemble will be performing at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West. This event forms part of the SMME awards, which is hosted by the Africagrowth Institute. During this event, small business developers will be rewarded for their special developments aimed towards the end consumer. The Parow North Marimba ensemble consists of 10 Grade 7 learners, who are carefully selected at the beginning of each year. They have one formal practice each week, but the sound of the marimba can be heard during break time, as these dedicated learners give up their break time to perfect their skills. In fact, this group is so dedicated that they even attend practices after school hours, as well as during school holidays. During such a practice, one of the members walked several kilometres to get to school, as public transport was not available. This ensemble has only been playing for 4 months and it is this commitment which makes it possible for the members to perform a half
hour programme at events. The ensemble is coached by Mr Louis van Loggerenberg. The performance at this prestigious event will be a new experience for many of the learners. It will be a formal banquet, with many high level delegates attending, including the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry. The learners will be assigned a designated table and they will share in all the activities at this event.

Bellville Technical High School was represented by 3 grade 12 learners, Dominic Van Zyl, Desire Kabwanga and Justin Mckelvey at the provincial MinQuiz competition on 14 May 2015 at CPUT, Bellville. What an extraordinary event. They were accompanied by their Physical Science teacher, Ms. Koopman and principal, Mr. Koopman who took a few hours off his busy schedule at school to motivate the learners. The learners were tested in the areas of Physical Science, Mathematics and general knowledge in Science, Engineering and Technology. According to the learners the experience was exceptional and a lot of fun. They were overwhelmed with all the talent and were really motivated. BTHS will participate in this competition yearly. Thank you to everyone who made this day possible.

Om kosprodukte en ander noodsaaklikhede te bekom, is nie sommer net winkel toe ry en later twee sakkies kruideniersware in die kattebak sit nie. Wupperthal is slegs 11 kilometer van Heuningvlei, maar ook net die noodsaaklikste kan daar verkry word. Wat soos ‘n paal bo water staan, is dat enige vervoer ‘n geweldige uitdaging is. ‘n Bakkie of motor is ideaal, maar nie binne elkeen se finansiële vermoë nie, en die meeste sal dankbaar wees vir ‘n rytuig sonder ‘n enjin: ja, reg geraai, ‘n donkiekar is hier ter sprake! Mnr Rehan Meyer, adjunkhoof van HTS Bellville en ‘n gereelde besoeker aan die Cedarberge, het ‘n bestaande karretjie gaan opmeet, ’n paar foto’s geneem en die plan by die huis kom aan mekaar sit. Met die hulp van die Ingenieursgrafika en Ontwerpvakspan, is koppe bymekaar gesit en beplan om die lewe van een gesin te vergemaklik. Ou Oregon Pine-vloerplanke is
geskenk deur Ronelle Oosthuizen van FGA (Frameless Glass) en tweedehandse staal deur John Kitching van Brackenfell Staal. ‘n Witbloekomdisselboom is op Johan Durr se plaas anderkant Paarl gaan haal. Met hier en daar ‘n skooluurtjie se afknyp om spykers uit te haal, skaaf- en skuurwerk te doen, gate te boor vir boute en moere, is die donkiekar voltooi en die 16de Mei by Daleen en Hennie se huis afgelaai. Trane van dankbaarheid was in oorvloed en vinnig was die karretjie onder kombers en seil toegemaak. Die donkies is reeds gereed en binnekort sal die span die pad vat. Besoekers sal ook rondgeneem word op die stofpaaie duskant Pakhuispas en aan die voet van die Krakadouwberge vir ‘n ekstra inkomste. Die meeste inwoners se behoefte aan klere, speelgoed en boumateriaal is groot en die IGO-span daag enige ander skool, veral tegniese skole, uit om hulle vaardighede en liefdadigheid te bewys en die gemeenskap van hulp te verleen. That is what you might have been able to hear through the cheering at De Kuilen High School’s Rollie Trollie 2015 fundraising event that took place on Friday, 8 May.
The school’s Council of Learners organised a day for the De Kuilen High School learners where they got into trollies and raced around the school for the top spot.
With an exciting and exhilarating mixture of adrenalin and speed, the afternoon was a great success and the school is now even more of a unit because of it. The winning team walked away with a trophy and other prizes. Even the runners-up got something – no one was left in the dust.

Die graad 4 A-klas het hierdie kwartaal bietjie prakties kennis gemaak met Natuurwetenskap. Hier is hul besig om onder andere te toets watter soort hol pilaar die sterkste is. Al wat nodig was was ‘n paar A5 stukke papier van dieselfde grootte, cellotape, ‘n klompie ewe groot leesboekies, ‘n plat horisontale oppervlakte en dan ‘n klas opgewonde, gewillige en leergierige leerders.
PRETDAG IN DIE PAARL
Saterdag, 16 Mei, het die Angra Avontuurklub ‘n genotvolle dag in die Paarl aangebied wat deur van ons Landsdienslede bygewoon is. Dié keer was daar nie rommel opgetel, indringerplante uitgeroei, erosieslote opgevul of ander derglike “natuurdinge” gedoen nie, maar net lekker pret gehad vir ‘n slag. Ander skole wat ook by die Angra-klub inskakel en die daguitstappie meegemaak het was Lse De Tyger, Goodwood-Park, Saffier en Vredelust. Pretdinge waaraan deelgeneem kon word was ponieritte, klimrame, ‘n springkasteel en ‘n paar dapperes het ook die waterglybaan ondanks die koue aangedurf. ‘n Baie spelerige bergbokkie, wat wonderbaarlik uit sy kampie gekom het, het ook tot groot pret bygedra voordat dit uiteindelik weer veilig in haar kampie was. Angra se bussies is altyd betyds met die oplaai, en ons was ook weer volgens die program betyds terug by ons onderskeie skole. Ons leerders het hierdie uitstappie terdeë geniet. Een mamma, Helet Malherbe, het ook die uitstappie meegemaak.

Ouers skenk allerlei eetgoed en help dan ook tydens die verkope met die geldsake en dat die ouer leerders nie dalk ‘n groter winskopie kry as wat reg is nie. Vanjaar was daar van heerlike (en goedkoop) pasteitjies, pizza-skywe, kolwyntjies, plaatkoek, gesonde sappies tot pakkies skyfies en springmielies. Die res van die skool het hul baie goed ondersteun en ons wens hul geluk met ‘n welgeslaagde markdag.
NETBAL AANDTOERNOOI WAS WEER ‘N SUKSES Laerskool Bellville-Noord het Vrydagaand, 15 Mei, ons agtste aandtoernooi suksesvol aangebied. Meer as 30 spanne het aan hierdie toernooi op WP Netbal se bane in Bellville deelgeneem. O’13 asook O’12 spanne het in groepe van 5 elk op 6 bane teen mekaar meegeding om as die beste span per baan aangewys te word. Elke wenspan het pragtige medaljes ontvang wat geborg is deur Protea Toyota wat al vir vier jaar by hierdie prag toernooi betrokke is. Die suksesvolste skool op die koue aand was Laerskool Stellenbosch aangesien beide hul o’12 en o’13-spanne as baanwenners aangewys is. Ander skole waarvan
spanne as baanwenners aangewys is was Totius, Kenrigde, Brackenfell en Hendrik Louw. Die ouervereniging het gesorg vir heerlike warm eetgoed en is baie goed deur die besoekers ondersteun. Mev. Congratulations to our four hockey boys who did particularly well at the Under 13 Zonal Hockey Trials. Brett Sparks was selected for the Durbell Team. Kane Gibson, Kalin Collop and Christopher Breetzke were selected for the Northerns Team. Well done boys!
The grade 5’s celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as their favourite characters. The teachers then had to make a very tough decision to choose the best dressed children in the grade. Each teacher chose their favourite novel and spent a few minutes reading their book to each class.

MATHS DAY
EPS hosted a MATHS ENRICHMENT DAY on Friday, 20 March. We invited Grade 4 pupils from SACS, Elkanah and Herschel to have some maths fun with us. Kenridge U/14 hockey boys finished first and second at the Wynberg Super 8’s Hockey Tournament which was held at the Wynberg Astro on 29 April 2015.
The U/8A boys had an excellent start to their league matches for this term. Kenridge played their first away match at Gene Louw on Wednesday, 29 April. They played a good game and won 4 - 0.
CASTLE OF GOOD HOPE
Our Grade 5 classes went to the Castle of Good Hope to find out more about life in the time of the first settlers. They were taught about the five bastions of the Castle (named after the titles of Prince Willem
111), the original mud, clay and timber Fort built by Jan van Riebeeck and what life was like at the Castle during the late 1600’s. The outing was interesting, informative and was enjoyed by all!

POPPIEPROJEKDAG
By Eversdal is dit die personeel se erns om vir die Evers te leer om die skool se leuse, DAMUS - ONS GEE, uit te leef. Vanjaar ondersteun hulle die Poppieprojek, ‘n inisiatief van BADISA TRIO. Elke klas ‘neem ‘ vir ‘n jaar lank ‘n kind, wat in veilige beskerming is, ‘aan’. Noodsaaklike lewensmiddele vir die spesifieke kind vir die jaarword ingesamel. Die projek het afgeskop met ‘n muntlegging, toe almal munte skool toe gebring het en die kinders se name daarmee uitgepak het.

DIE EVERS GROET OOM MAC-CIE
Oom Mac McGregor, buite-afrigter by die Laerskool Eversdal, het ná 13 jaar nou vir die tweede keer afgetree om rustig op sy plaas naby Nieuwoudtville te gaan woon. Hy was voorheen ‘n polisieman, wat, ná sy eerste aftrede, rugby en krieket afgerig het en dikwels ook sommer die skoolbus bestuur het. Oom Mac sal by Eversdal altyd onthou word vir die passie vir die Evers, asook die liefde wat hulle vir hom gehad het.

Abigail Combrinck van die Laerskool Eversdal, het onlangs aan die Suid-Afrikaanse Kampioenskappe vir Uitvoerende Kunste in Rustenburg deelgeneem. Sy het met haar monoloog die eerste plek en ‘n goue medalje verower. Sy is ook as die algehele wenner vir toneelspel in die ouderdomsgroep 5 tot 15 jaar aangewys.

Hoërskool Bellville ontvang besoek van hul oud-skolier Rocco van Rooyen. Rocco het in 2014 deelgeneem aan die “Commonwealth Games” en ‘n sesde plek behaal met ‘n afstand van 76.87m in spiesgooi. Vanjaar was Rocco die Suid-Afrikaanse Senior en Ope kampioen met ‘n afstand van 80.56m. Rocco gaan nou deelneem aan die Diamant Liga – atletiekbyeenkomste in Amerika en Europa. Baie geluk ons is LEEU TROTS op jou, Rocco.
LAERSKOLE KOORFEES AANGEBIED DEUR HOËRSKOOL BELLVILLE
Die jaarlikse Laerskole Koorfees het verlede week op Donderdagaand, 7 Mei by die Hugo Lambrechts Musieksentrum plaasgevind. Die volgende ses laerskole het deelgeneem, naamlik Bellpark, BellvilleNoord, Eversdal, Bastion, Brackenfell en Mikro. Die fees het in gewildheid toegeneem, want die kaartjies
was baie vroeg reeds uitverkoop. ‘n Konsert is vooraf vir Hoërskool Bellville se ouers aangebied. Ook daar was die belangstelling verrassend. Na ‘n baie suksesvolle aand het die masskaoor en die orkes die verrigtinge afgesluit en dit het ‘n dawerende applous ontlok.

A NIGHT OF GLITZ AND GLAM
Labiance recently had their annual Mr and Miss Labiance, and boy was it a spectacular event. There were 10 couples who took part and the theme was “LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION”. Categories included Moulin Rouge, Cowboys, Thriller and then of course evening wear. Boys showed off in their suits and the girls glittered in their dresses and high
heels. Not a hair was out of place! After much deliberation from the judges (which was not easy to do) the winners were chosen. Congrats to our 2015 Miss Labiance, Monique Booysen and 2015 Mr Labiance, Diaan Jacobs! We hope that they will carry these titles with pride and remember to uphold the Labiance name. Our 1st prince and princess were
Tristan Pearce and Dannielle Vollenhoven and the 2nd prince and princess were Wade Haupt and Keesha Petersen. Tristan Hamilton, a grade 12 learner from Fairmont High School, was awarded the Nedbank Trophy for the Most Promising Golfer for 2014 at a Gala Awards Evening on 16 May 2015. Tristan’s father accepted the trophy on his behalf, whilst he was playing for the Western Province Under 19-team.
LAND SERVICE
Learners from Fairmont joined other Land Service members, from all over the Western Cape, for a camp, on 8 to 10 May, at Mizpah in Grabouw. The
weekend was filled with fun activities, games and excitement. All returned on Sunday morning very tired, but excited for the next camp at the end of June.

Fyn, wit stof het die afgelope paar weke in die gang voor die kunsklas gelê. Na ‘n ondersoek is daar vasgestel dat die graad 7-leerders se kunstaak was om met gips te werk. Baie interessante skeppings staan in die kunsklas en wag om voltooi te word... Hier is van die leerders besig met hul skeppings.

Leerders in graad 4 & 5 het van die Vrydae-middae bymekaar gekom om ‘n boek te lees en bespreek. Na die afhandeling van hul boek het hulle fees gevier en soos die boek se karakters aangetrek.
