FASHION

Fashion Editor Pepe Sofianos snaps up the best fake-leather biker jackets. Babe in a biker jacket - who can forget Sandra Dee’s transformation from prissy prom queen to big-time punk princess in Grease? Once upon a time, biker jackets were the territory of those hairy, tattooed blokes on Harleys - the ones you didn’t take home to meet the folks! Now the motorcycle jacket has evolved into a fashion must. It’s an instant style boost with its unmistakable surfeit of zips, snaps, studs and hardware plus quilted patches in that boxy arrogant mannish cut that simply goes with everything and suits everyone.

HOW TO WEAR THE BIKER JACKET: Be the grunge queen with a bare midriff look and tightfitting cropped moto jacket and low-slung shredded jeans.

Yes, real genuine leather is the top prize but set your sights on pleather or leather–look as: a) it’s ethically better for your karma and b) it’s so much better on your pocket.

PEARSON HIGH SCHOOL (t) 041 583 2111 (e) phs@pearsonhs.ecape.school.za

HOCKEY, NETBALL & RUGBY

Pearson High School travelled to Oudtshoorn to take on Oudtshoorn High School in their first annual sports fixture, played on Saturday. Competitive, exciting matches were played on the day, but it was the Pearson netball teams who were impressed, winning all their matches.

Netball: Eight wins, a clean sweep, set the scene. The Pearson girls played a good brand of netball with the Pearson shooters ensuring good results. In this all-round team effort with all ten players performing well, the brilliant

shooting of Carlyle Bromfield and the outstanding defence of Shari McGear in the second half of the match secured for them the Players of the Match accolade for the day.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Durban hosted the annual Currie Cup water polo tournament bringing the top senior and U18 players from around the country to fight for the prestigious Currie Cup trophy which started back in 1898. Pearson High School had a remarkable influence in the EP U18 teams which saw 7 girls in the team of 11 coming from Pearson. Luke Manthe who was the coach is also a teacher at the school. After a tough round robin tournament EP faced a tough challenge in the final

bringing up against provincial rivalries, Western Province. At half time saw Western Province leading 6 - 1 and the EP ladies put on a good show of water polo and going down in the end 6 - 5. A special mention must be made of, Casey McLeavy and Ashleigh Vaughan (both from Pearson)who have both been chosen to represent the Schools Water Polo Southa Africa (SWPSA) U16A team in June/July where they will be traveling to Serbia and Hungary.

THE LITTLE RED HEN TEACHING HELPFULNESS

Who will help me mix the dough and bake the muffins? We will, we will ! And so they did…….. They all helped to bake delicious muffins. What fun !!!

Waiting to mix the dough.

….and into the oven it goes.

Carefully into the muffin pan.

Future master chefs at work.

Into our tummies

What did we learn from all this ? 1.Work hard - The hen wasn’t afraid of hard work even if nobody else on the farm would help her 2. Ignore naysayers – The other farm animals told the little red hen that she was crazy to work hard while they were lazing about and having fun. 3. Fairness – The animals who didn’t share in the work didn’t earn any of the bread. 4. Rewards – Hard work pays great rewards in the end. The Little Red Hen had some delicious bread to eat and share with her family while the other animals had nothing.
