老人 與 無街之城 5
Chinese style court-yard-compound is a naturally maturing product from the historical processes and living customs. The space that it modulates i s a n a t m o s p h e r e a n d a s p h e r e fi e l d w h i ch are contained inwardly, leading the residents t o ow n a c o r n e r o f t h e s k y fo r t h e m s e l ve s .
6
# s t a t e m e n t The most demanding issues of modern cities are efficiency, time, population and money. The cities cover a delicate system of grids. Streets cut off all of the vistas and space by a rapid speed. Building high buildings with smaller and smaller precious city land is repeated again and again. The relation between court and yard is getting increasingly distant. What I envision is to reactualize the space between cour t and yard, not only greening open space. # i s s u e The values are different between Chinese style court-yard-componds and modern cities. Senior citizens are the easiest to be ignored under the values of efficiency, speed, population and money. In the western world, religion continuies to be the core life when senior citizens move into a nursing home. But in the eastern world, family, past social structures, and relations with the society which used to play main values are being destroyed.

# s i t e I choose a common streetscape in Taipei as my site. The prototype is indexed according to the texture of the city, the age of the architecture, and the functions of the region. The goal is to develop a mode and a module which can be used generally on the base of the prototype of a city. At the same time when the old buildings are destroyed, yard space is created through reversing the building structures and streetscape. # d e s i g n W hat I propose is a way for renewing a city gradually in the future. A space which is suitable for living can be formed through reconsisting and reversing the fragmenting factors. My proposal is the solution for most of the current living units which are located at the end of the traffic flow, and are only able to connect with the major traffic flow.

# m e n u Cour tyard ( 院 , ) and elevator are three main elements to form the space. To c r e a t e t h e s p a c e cor responding to demands of elderly, the module of the units are 3*3m with minimun functions, which can resemble to human needs more than normal living space at nowadays nursing homes. The replacement r ate of elde rly hou s i ng i s higher than usual housing type, the minimun modules can re-assemble more suitable. The second element is yard( 院 ). Traditional cour tyards are not only balcony or greening space, it is an inward sphere. In the smallest scale, the yard might be the center of 4 units. It also shows the circulation among units. In the medium scale, the yard would be the public space shared by surrounding units. And zoom out, in the large scale, it would be the yard sharing and connecting to different cour t-yard-compounds.
12
The court will reach a balanced dynamic equilibrium by sharing the units in

different levels when a member passes away and a new neighbor moves in.

# p r o g r a m T here are 8 districts in my design. All the programs are for senior citizens. Including Community Caring, Home Caring, Nursing Home for physical disable or spiritual disable. Also the Housing for healthy senior citizen, which s t i l l c a n p ro o f t h e i r live value by taking care of others or running a small business. And there are also the living area for caregivers and the original commercial here.
15
16
#Daily routine for a man In these plans and prespectives show the one day routine of an elder, who lives on third floor at district 2. T h i s e l d e r ow n s h i s or her bathroom and reading room in privacy. And shares dinning area and kitchen with others. They also can going to other floors and another cour t-yard-compound by elevator. And going down to the exterior c o u r t y a rd b y s t a i r s . And this senior citizen is under care in this caring zone. When something emergenc y happened, H e o r s h e wo u l d b e sent to here wait for professional medical help.

This is a library for people to communicate with the nature which located in the unban edge of metro Taipei City. Due to the racial characteristics of Chinese, they are not easily to in touch with the green than foreigner such as directly lay on the lawn. So the library is intended or media between people and nature and also fit in with nature mountain side. With the layering fundamental system, form the spaces with various scales and functions. The layers can form book shelves, desks and chairs, stairs, and also the roofs. Readers can choose the sphere fits their demand and dividing their own atmosphere. circulation planning |steel structure Utilizing the form with the structure, fit various demands of bus waiting at school. The original bus station was dangerous for students because the hillside terrain and the indistinct border, the buses always drive in a fast speed due to the elevation. This structure can adjust to the slope elegantly and devide a clear-cut frame for safty. By the changing of structure, form various functions like bus stops, chairs information boards.
