04 REFLECTION Winter quarter was a mixture of sleep deprivation, borderline insanity, caffeine dependence, and mental and physical challenges. Still, winter quarter was
also much more than that. I learned from day 2 of the quarter that making
simple primitives out of Bristol was much more difficult than I thought. It was also even more difficult to design sheared shapes through a foreign program named Rhinoceros. I really bonded over Rhino as I spent tireless long hours
designing the Cuboid and sheared shapes. It became handy as I was able to
design more efficiently and quickly for my metal and Bristol sheared shapes. Winter
quarter
was
the
time
I
learned
numerous
handy
skills.
I
overcame the fear of cutting my finger off in wood shop as I used multiple tools. I also learned how to use the machines for metal
as I cut myself with my sheet metal multiple times. That was fun. Then, paraSITE came. I learned that things will go wrong at the most unopportune time. It’s also quite easy to envision a design, but actually making
it is a complete different thing. It was great working with my three person group, difficult mostly, but great in the end. We ended the project with darker
circles, fewer hours of sleep, but the most important part: satisfied smiles. Studio was different this quarter as we were all busy with our group projects. There were more group projects which added to our frustrations. Still, I’m ready for part 3 of studio and will miss this studio. Winter quarter was definitely more
challenging as we did more artistically challenging projects. I didn’t know what
I was getting myself into but I know that when I look back, I’m surprised at how
much I learned in the past weeks. I’m excited for what the next quarter will entail.
