MEET DAWN CROOKS Dawn received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Central State University in English, with a minor in Communications. Her first career goal was to become an editor for a major publication or publishing company. However, her first job out of college was as the Admissions Assistant for Wilmington College. In that role, she discovered a love for what would become her career of choice. While Dawn has had the opportunity to be a freelance editor and performance artist, thus using what she learned in her degree program, she cannot see herself ever leaving higher education. Dawn is now a 14-year veteran in college admissions and recruiting, gaining most of her experience as the Program Coordinator for Xavier University’s Offsite and Executive MBA Programs, a position she held for seven years. She has since worked for other well-known colleges like John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, New York, and Chatfield College. She credits Chatfield for increasing her awareness of and compassion for populations who have fewer reasons to believe in education because of the circumstances they face within the confines of their economic statuses. As an admissions counselor, she wears many hats, but the one she has come to be most proud of is that of a trusted adviser.

Founded in 1888, Tiffin University is proud to offer a personal and practical education for motivated, professionally focused students who want real-world experiences and results.

D E G R E E

Her experience has afforded Dawn the opportunity to gain considerable knowledge in the admissions field, but she has been successful mostly because of her passion for helping people to achieve their academic goals. Always smiling and relishing the positive, she possesses an infectious attitude of hope that resonates to every student she has had the opportunity to reach. As Manager of the Cincinnati Academic Center for Tiffin University, she hopes to continue affecting the lives of those who seek a higher quality of life and who realize that education is the means by which they will achieve it.

Co-Curricular Program Remember to do your co-curricular hours! You need 13 hours of personal development and 13 hours of service learning in order to fulfill your graduation requirements at Tiffin University. You can use activities you have completed up to five years ago. You cannot be paid for any of these activities. In addition, the activities that you submit for co-curricular hours cannot be required of you from your employer, teacher, or another individual. You can receive personal development hours for activities that allow you to better yourself. These activities allow you to grow as an individual. Examples of personal development activities are attending a workshop that helps improve your job skills, such as resume writing seminars or interview workshops; an unpaid internship; and attending cultural activities, such as art exhibits, music concerts, or theatre productions. You can receive service learning hours for volunteer work with churches, schools, and non-profit organizations. Examples of service learning activities are being a volunteer coach, a tutor, and volunteering within a classroom. In addition, donating blood is also an example of a service learning activity.

Please remember to fill out the co-curricular form. Submit this form to your advisor so they can keep a copy in your advising file and submit the original to the co-curricular committee. The co-curricular committee typically meets once a month; therefore, please allow 30-45 days in order to find out if your hours that were submitted were approved or denied for co-curricular credit. If you should have any questions about whether or not an activity would count as co-curricular you can reach out to your advisor for some guidance. Co-Curricular Form: https://tunet.tiffin.edu/ics/Admissions/Co-Curricular_at_ Tiffin_University/Default_Page.jnz?portlet=Co-Curricular_ Information

How do you know if your co-curricular hours are approved? Students are able to keep track of the number of cocurricular hours that they have earned on the Co-Curricular Database. Click Here to Enter the Co-Curricular Database. You will enter your social security number (with no dashes) for your Student ID. The hours that appear are approved hours. Please check your TU e-mail on a regular basis. If your co-curricular hours are denied or additional information is needed in order to get them approved you will be contacted through your TU e-mail account.

NEWS FROM FINANCIAL AID

The financial aid office would like to remind you to submit a new FAFSA after the first of the year. You can find the 20122013 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fasfa.ed.gov and it can be filed anytime after January 1, 2012. The FAFSA is used to issue your financial aid beginning with the 2012 summer semester, 2012 fall semester, and then the 2013 spring semester. Your current or upcoming spring aid will be issued according to your 2011-2012 FAFSA. The application process will provide you with the option to use a data retrieval tool beginning on February 1, 2012. We highly recommend you utilize this option for several reasons. Using this option reduces the chances of mistakes being made. It also greatly reduces the likelihood of being selected for verification. In 2012-2013 the government will require students obtain an IRS tax transcript to complete verification. This step will increase the amount of time it will take to obtain all the necessary documents for verification, making the data retrieval option even more appealing. If you are able to complete the FAFSA before the February 1st date, please revisit the FAFSA site after this time and select the data retrieval tool. This will work the same way to reduce the chances of being selected for verification. Please note as well, if you use the data retrieval system and subsequently make changes to the information that was imported you will likely be flagged and selected for verification. Remember the financial aid office is always available to answer any of your financial aid questions. The financial aid office can be reached at 800-968-6446, ext. 3514.

Do you know someone interested in completing their Bachelor’s degree? Are you looking for a little extra cash? The Degree Completion Program is looking for students just like you! Here is how it works: All you need to do is put us in touch with someone who is looking for an opportunity to get back on track to completing their college degree. We offer a “referral fee” of $100 to any current student who refers someone who enrolls in the Degree Completion program. The fee will be paid directly to your student account following verification of enrollment in the program. There is no limit to the number of students you refer! If you would like to refer a student to the Degree Completion Program, please go to http://www.tiffin.edu/ degreecomp/referral/

Upcoming Changes We are happy to share some really exciting news with you. We are in the process of putting our Degree Completion online orientation in the virtual world! What does all this mean? It means that the Degree Completion orientation will be available 24/7 online! We are very excited to be working on this project as it will allow students to view our orientation as often as necessary and at any time of the day making preparation for our online program even more convenient for students.
