WHAT IS YOUR EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND? I received a Bachelor’s of Science in English and Secondary Education from Asbury College and a minor in History. WHAT COURSES DO YOU TEACH? WHICH COURSES DO YOU ENJOY TEACHING AND WHY? At Tiffin University, I have taught Law courses in all three schools. I love teaching any Law course, as legal knowledge is a passion to me. In each course I teach, I find out the career objectives of each student, and tailor the subject to cases and examples that will help them to understand the course material. For example, if I have many students in the class who are majoring in Forensic Science, I teach Criminal Law based on evidence proving the type of crime or defense. For students taking Criminal Law who are majoring in Law Enforcement, I teach the subject using case studies of crimes and defenses from police officers who face the streets every day. In doing this, I believe students can take the subject content, and relate why this information is so important to their chosen career. The Paralegal courses are special, because I have the desire and goal to help all people who need legal services, receive high quality legal services. If attorneys use paralegals to provide supporting legal services, more people could afford an attorney. Founded in 1888, Tiffin University is proud to offer a personal and practical education for motivated, professionally focused students who want real-world experiences and results.

WHAT ARE YOUR INTERESTS/HOBBIES? My hobbies are reading, walking and caring for dogs. Books allow me to take trips and visit places and time periods to which I cannot physically go. Some of my favorite authors are Tolstoy, Solzhenitsyn, C. S. Lewis, and Irene Nemirovsky. I am currently reading The Red Horse, by Frank Corti, a novel written about Italian freedom fighters in World War II. WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR STUDENTS WISHING TO ENTER THE PARALEGAL FIELD? There are two principles I think will help paralegals build their career. The first is to always have a positive attitude, because success will always be earned by a person with a great attitude who seeks to find solutions to problems, rather than by a person who becomes stymied by negativity. The second principal is to volunteer to do additional work, outside of the job description. Not only will a paralegal learn to be adaptive, but a paralegal will earn support from others on the paralegal team, and this support will make a difference in meeting court deadlines.

program name change We are very excited to announce that the program previously known as the Degree Completion Program (DCP) has changed its name to Online and Off-Campus Programs (OOP). The name change was made in an effort to better reflect the variety of ways to obtain a degree to prospective students, employers, and the communities we serve. As a department, we will continue to adhere to our department mission and make strides to provide “quality education to students with demanding lifestyles.”
