TU TECH Information & Technology Services Welcome back!

We hope the semester has gotten off to a good start for everyone. While the campus was on break, there have been a couple of changes that we would like to tell you about. The campus network has been extended to the St. Mary’s classrooms and we have welcomed Jason Marson as the new Support Manager of ITS. Jason comes to us from St. Clair Community College in Port Huron, Michigan. He had been working there in IT support for the last 4 years. Jason will oversee the ongoing technology support services for ITS. He will focus on the Help Desk and manage all the things that go into keeping PC’s and laptops running reliably. This will include ensuring that processes are in place and are being followed to provide support to those using the University’s hardware and computer applications. He will be “hands on” in all of this. When you get a chance to work with Jason, please welcome him to Tiffin University. The St. Mary instructor station computers are now on the campus network. Back in November, work began on boring under South Sandusky Street to run fiber to the St. Mary’s building. Once the fiber was into the building, a new network switch was installed and the classroom computers were attached to the switch. With this complete, anyone using these computers can now log into these computers with their network username and password. You can now access these computers just like you access other University computers across campus. A quick reminder, if you have any issues with the computers in St. Mary, or with any other University owned computer, please contact the Help Desk immediately to report the issue. The Help Desk can be reached at: On Campus

Classroom issues are Priority 1. We will get to other issues just as soon as we can. We can’t fix it if we don’t know about it. With the campus network now in St. Mary, we can now begin looking at expanding our wireless network coverage to that building. First of all, we will need to do a signal survey of the building to determine how many wireless access points will need to be installed to get reasonable coverage in all areas. The concrete block walls in the building will likely require several extra access points to cover the rooms. The required number of access points will determine the necessary work and dollars to complete the project. As always, the timing of when this can occur is dependent on when dollars will be available. A new year and new progress! Adding the classrooms in St. Mary to our campus network, is moving us forward to getting consistent instructor stations in all classrooms. A new Support Manager will help us further improve the level of service we can provide and allow us to begin looking at more proactive actions we can take to avoid issues before they can occur. It seems to be a good start to the new year.
