ONE MESSAGE FROM
The Steering Committee The future is now for health and happiness WHEN IT COMES TO SOMETHING AS IMPORTANT AS THE WELLBEING OF STAFF MEMBERS, IT’S NEVER TOO EARLY TO START PLANNING AHEAD. NJC’S RECENTLY RELEASED WELLBEING STRATEGY PROVES THIS, SETTING OUT THEIR FULL PLAN FOR THE FUTURE.
At the core of the new strategy is the belief that all NJC employees deserve to work in safe, healthy working environments. This will provide benefits to both staff happiness and productivity, as one of the key aims is to keep up attendance rates and to improve morale across the board. In addition to setting out definite objectives, NJC have laid out a number of schemes in order to achieve this. These include ‘The Nutritional & Healthy Eating Scheme’, which aims to provide fresh fruit in offices. The strategy also aims to provide benefit programmes and special courses to staff. The aim is not just to look out for employee safety but for general health as well. These great ideas tied in with Aspire’s recent LearnAsOne Positivity & Mindfulness workshops, means NJC staff can look forward to a healthy future. By establishing a clear plan with a broad spectrum of different methods, NJC look well on their way to achieving their aim of creating the best working conditions possible for their staff.

ASPIRE STAFF RECOGNITION AWARDS ASPIRE PLAYER OF THE MONTH
June ‘18
NJC Cleaner Lajosne Piroth was doing her routine cleaning on Level 8 at 80 Victoria Street when she came across a very expensive Rolex watch, which had clearly been left behind. Without a moment of hesitation, Lajosne went straight to the reception of Wellington Management, explained what had happened and handed in the watch.
Very shortly after, NJC Portfolio Manager Charles Walden received a call and an email confirming that the individual had reclaimed his missing watch. The man was especially grateful to Lajosne because the watch had great sentimental value for him. He was so impressed that he even went out of his way to thank her in person and gave her a gift as a token of his gratitude.
PLAYER OF THE MONTH
In recognition of Lajosne’s helpfulness, Charles has nominated her for a Player of the Month Award in Integrity.

ne of the reasons that the staff at One New Change really stand out is the excellent relationships that they have built with the Landsec customers onsite. It is always reassuring for them to know that they can rely on Aspire to go beyond their usual responsibilities.
OF THE MONTH
Burrito Mama, a takeaway restaurant based on the first floor of One New Change, recently experienced an incident when a fire broke out. This could have threatened the safety of its customers and caused considerable damage to the venue itself. Fortunately for Jamie Miles and the rest of the staff there, Rafael Simonatto of Corps Security was close by when this happened. He reacted to the fire before anyone else, taking all the necessary procedures to isolate it and to put it out as quickly as possible. Without his prompt response, the fire might have caused far more damage than it did. The staff at Burrito Mama all thanked Rafael for his efforts. For proving again that the Aspire team can always be relied on by Landsec customers, Rafael has been nominated by Retail Manager Jordon Joseph for a Player of the Month Award in Customer Service.

Cardinal Place rolls out the green carpet
Sam Ustun
V
ictoria saw Aspire members and visitors alike treated to the likes of Williams and Djokovic in high definition as part of the ultimate viewing experience. But rather than a red carpet, Landsec had laid out authentic green astro turf for its visitors at Cardinal Place, perfectly recreating the classic Wimbledon surface. With the big screen streaming the action live from BBC1 and BBC2, the broadcasts ran from 11am to 9pm every day and as expected the tournament attracted a large numbers of fans. Not fazed by the additional crowds, Security Supervisor Sam Ustun along with his colleagues from Ultimate Security, did an exemplary job of welcoming guests. Sam and the team had been especially chosen to oversee the tournament after the excellent service they provided at last year’s event. With temperatures expected to rise to over 30 degrees, Aspire had also arranged for the Cardinal Place security team to wear ‘Wimbledon Green’ polo shirts instead of the usual navy blue uniform.

Even in the extreme heat, Aspire and M&S worked brilliantly together throughout the tournament. Each visitor was offered a complimentary ‘Sparkling Summer Cup Mocktail’ to help keep them refreshed. Meanwhile, cleaners from NJC were always on hand to promptly ensure all rubbish was correctly disposed of in one of the waste or recycling bins provided. Landsec’s Great British Summer event attracted a whole mix of people, from tennis purists to sunbathers to people just stopping for lunch. Whatever the reason for going, Cardinal Place certainly seemed a popular venue, with security confirming there were as many as 400 people at peak times. Thanks to the team at Cardinal Place, the best of Wimbledon could be experienced right in the heart of Victoria. None of this would have been possible without the exceptional teamwork of Aspire.

New Street Square sees smiles all round In the City near St Paul’s Cathedral, the Aspire members at New Street Square were also doing everything possible to ensure that everyone had a memorable Wimbledon experience. As with Cardinal Place, the big screen was broadcasting all the tournament’s best tennis action from the mid-morning until late evening. Giant parasols had thoughtfully been arranged to give some well needed shade to anyone trying to avoid the hot summer sun, with Aspire members offering FREE branded sunglasses and coloured visors to the enthusiastic fans. For those who wanted to relax and get close to the action, rows of stylish News Street Square branded deckchairs had been positioned facing the main screen. Visitors had clearly taken to these, and at times it was difficult to secure any of the popular front seats. It was also great to see Aspire members getting into the spirit of things too.

As a big fan of tennis, Security Guard Elizabeth Taylor loved the chance to patrol in the sun and claimed ‘watching the live tennis at Wimbledon is a huge perk of the job’. Shift Supervisor Jana Havlikova similarly loves all things sporty and was always looking to catch a quick glimpse of the scores. This year’s Great British Summer has been a huge success, but what really helped to set New Street Square apart was the range and quality of some of the refreshments on offer. To compliment the estate’s popular retail outlets, temporary food stalls had also been set up all around the main square, offering mouth-watering confit duck legs, steak and ale pies and a whole variety of other foods. Some of the vendors, such as the award-winning Pie Hole, had travelled from outside of London just for the event. Combined with the extensive seating area and the relaxed atmosphere, it was easy to see why so many were flocking to the event. New Street Square offered a fusion of fantastic big screen tennis and culinary delights, plus a friendly atmosphere that could only be enjoyed with Aspire!

One New Change offers tennis fans the best view in London
Steve Yearwood
From the rooftop terrace of ONC, fans could appreciate Wimbledon 2018 against the stunning backdrop of London’s iconic St Paul’s Cathedral. With this view of the capital already attracting thousands of visitors each year, it was also the perfect arena to watch the intriguing events of Britain’s favourite summer tournament unfold. In a similar style to Cardinal Place, green astro turf had been used to give visitors an authentic viewing ‘court’ of their own. The tiered design of the terrace meant that every person could clearly see the screen no matter where they were sitting. With Union Jack beanbags offered alongside stylish red deckchairs, this gave fans the chance to enjoy the matches in maximum comfort. At peak times, with crowds of well over 100 people, there wasn’t a bad seat in the house. With the rooftop terrace high up on the sixth floor, there was a chance that the hot Summer sun would be too much for some, especially with the recent heatwave.

Fortunately, Aspire members were on hand to help, serving up FREE coloured sun visors and branded glasses to help people keep cool. With the stylish Madison bar and restaurant located close to the viewing area, Manhattan style refreshments were available throughout the day plus the indoor seating areas offered some respite if fans needed a break from the hot sun. Security Guard Steve Yearwood, of Ultimate Security, made sure that every visitor’s experience was a memorable one with his friendly nature and his winning sense of humour. At one point, a member of the public accidentally dropped an expensive pair of sunglasses over the barrier, landing on the outer roof of the building. But this was no big issue for Steve as he was able to retrieve the sunglasses using a hand modified extending broom. The visitor was extremely grateful to Steve for this and his willingness to help. The experienced Pius Oriavwote also offered a welcoming smile and no matter how busy the area got, he was always ready to help in any way he could. The views of London and the setup for the tennis were fantastic, but what made it a really special experience were the efforts of the One New Change Aspire team.

hile the eyes of the world were on the final stages of the FIFA’s Russian World Cup 2018, the focus of the Aspire team was on the last games of a more intriguing tournament. After some fierce knockout games, the stage was set for Finals Night of the first ever Aspire E-World Cup.
FOR THIS PRESTIGIOUS EVENT, ONLY THE EIGHT VERY BEST FIFA 2018 PLAYERS WERE LEFT!
At the start of the tournament, 32 players were drawn to compete as a country. After advancing through the knockout stages the remaining eight competitors were invited back on 12th July for the quarter-finals, semi-finals and E-World Cup Final. For this prestigious event, only the eight very best FIFA 2018 players were left! For Aspire’s tournament, the same match format had been used as the real World Cup, only we were playing on a Playstation PS4 Pro!

Adam Donoghue claims Jack Cogley’s foul play deserves further punishment. The players were not the only people in attendance. Operations Support Assistant Kelly Barlow and New Street Square Operations Manager Madeleine Velupillai had arrived early to prepare the event, and although unable to attend, Ludgate Estate Operations Manager Martin Pharo was also praised for keeping track of scores and draws throughout the tournament. One New Change Retail Manager Jordon Joseph set up the tournament while the last of the eight players arrived. He established a live feed for the games, complete with an authentic running commentary. This meant that Aspire members off-site could tune in to the action and post comments no matter where they were. It was a great way of getting more people connected to the event, with encouragement and witty observations coming in right up to the final game. After a few friendly warm-up matches, the quarter-finals were ready to begin. Each half was five minutes long to ensure there would be enough time to make the matches exciting. Two stylish violet ‘hot seats’ had been set up close to the big screen to ensure the people playing had the best possible view. The stunning HD graphics and crystal clear audio, along with the size of the screen, made for the ultimate FIFA match day experience.

Don’t cry for Sol’s Argentina!
The first nations to step up were Joe Thomson, playing as Russia and Ionut Cislariu, playing as Denmark. There were plenty of chances for both sides, but it was Joe who pulled out a 2-1 victory and moved through to the semi-finals. This game set the tone for the rest of the tournament and the tension continued to rise as the evening progressed towards the final stages. One of the highlights of the evening was the epic battle between Jordon Joseph’s Mexico against Uriah Higgins’ Poland in the third quarter-final match. Both players proved themselves worthy competitors as they pulled out every trick in their arsenal to win. After a nail-biting round of penalties, Uriah went away with the win after proving he was just as skilled on the virtual pitch as he is on the real one (See One - Issue 27). It was great to see that even after being knocked out, players shared a sporting handshake and every single player stayed until the end to support their colleagues.
Adam Donoghue’s dreams slip away for another year after a crushing defeat.

Football’s coming home for Joe Thomson’s Russia (Left).
ASPIRE’S E-WORLD CUP FINAL Russia have never made it to the final of the real World Cup, but thanks to Joe Thomson’s lightning finger skills, Europe’s biggest nation had a chance at glory as they met Uriah Higgins’ Poland. With everything to play for in the final, the two giants of the e-game got the match off to an electrifying start. Uriah claimed the first goal, then scored a quick second and after 68 minutes with Poland cruising at 2-0, they thought it was all over... but it wasn’t now!

Joe launched the biggest comeback of the evening and clawed a goal back to give Russia hope at 2-1. Substitutions were made and strategies were changed and in the dying minutes, Russia equalised to take the match to extra time. With Uriah not able to recover from the devastating mental blow, Joe shocked everyone by scoring an extra three goals in extra time. The match ended 5-2 to Russia with Joe Thomson crowned Aspire’s first E-World Cup Champion.

In addition to showing off the role of each person in the workplace, the movie celebrates the social elements and events that are a key part of our ever-growing team bonding scheme. Using these key characters, the movie sets out the main aims of Aspire whilst also introducing the main brand and sub-brands. The shorter website movie is specifically edited to give viewers a simple insight into the relationships between Landsec and their service partners. An extended ‘director’s cut’ version has also been developed for use on the Aspire Induction Course. This longer training version places a greater focus on how Aspire applies their successful teamwork methods to a ‘real life’ scenario. In the following pages, we catch up with Flossy Nwofor and Barbara Rigano as they reflect on life as a fictional favourite. Barbara Rigano
OFFICE CONCIERGE, 16 PALACE STREET
THE QUEEN OF VICTORIA When Front of House receptionist Barbara Rigano first began at 16 Palace Street, she never imagined that she would be catapulted to stardom as a cartoon. But her 12 years of experience and her dedicated involvement with Aspire were more than enough for Landsec to cast her in a lead role.
20
Barbara’s cartoon counterpart matches her in appearance from the hair to her signature pink glasses. In the movie, she is the face of the Front of House service that WorkAsOne with the other departments to keep everything running smoothly. Her responsibility is to meet and greet every person entering the site, checking people in and providing information as required. Of course, this includes members of the public as well as her colleagues, all of whom she welcomes enthusiastically with a trademark “Ciao”.

and Barbara proudly claims they are capable of dealing with just about any challenge thrown at them. It’s no wonder they are known throughout Cardinal Place as ‘the dream team’. When it comes to all things Aspire, Barbara shows the same level of spirit that she brings to her everyday duties. She comments that it is now ‘easier than ever for people to communicate and get to know each other’ thanks to the Aspire initiative and the special relationships it has built between Landsec and their service providers. In recent times Barbara has even become an Aspire ambassador and continues to motivate her fellow members to take part in all the events on offer. Barbara herself most recently went to the Aspire’s LearnAsOne - Improve your self-defence class on 2nd July, which she found useful and enjoyable. As Barbara is also a keen fan of the movies and going to the cinema is one of her favourite pastimes, it’s helpful that she has unlimited passes for both Odeon and Cineworld. When questioned, she found it difficult to name her favourite film out of the hundreds she has seen, but she often finds herself re-watching ‘Pretty Woman’. Barbara is delighted to have a starring role in something that combines her greatest passion with her professional life. Flossy Nwofor FLOSSY GOES TO HOLLYWOOD ginee
ring
Based at 100 Victoria Street, Security Guard Flossy Nwofor has been a friendly face for visitors and staff alike since she first began. Her hard work and unwavering cheer has made her a valued member of the Aspire team and one of the most recognisable faces of Cardinal Place. Soon, however, Flossy may be recognised more for her cartoon look-alike in the official Aspire movie. In this, Flossy’s character represents the security team, with the emphasis on how her role involves looking out for the safety of guests. Speaking to Flossy about her involvement in this, she claims that she never thought of herself as much of an actor or as someone cut out for films. Even so, she is grateful that the movie communicates her main duties so clearly and that it promotes the connections between departments. Seeing herself as a cartoon character was a surprise for her at first, but Flossy seems very excited to 22
be involved and even hopes to be included in similar features. Receptionist Ruth Lloyd, also based at 100 Victoria Street, jokes that Flossy’s caricature most reminds her of Tweetie Pie from the Looney Toons. The fact that Flossy was chosen for the role just shows how much of an impact she has in the relatively short amount of time she has been working onsite. She began on a flexible basis and was only given a fixed position after continuing to impress. On the front lines of Landsec’s main base of operations, Flossy has the chance to spread her positivity to hundreds of people every day.
AspireAsOne.co.uk
Although friendliness comes naturally to her, Flossy notes that she owes her communication skills to her time spent working at her family’s shop in Nigeria. Combined with her bubbly personality, she now excels at face-to-face contact and dealing with things head on. It was also during her time in Nigeria that she developed her famous

cooking skills. Today, she has become a force to be reckoned with in the kitchen, serving up Nigerian favourites such as pounded yam, fried rice and barbecued meats for her family and friends. Even with so much of her time dedicated to her job and her family, Flossy is still able to make time for nights out with friends as well, including those she has made through Aspire. Flossy has always been a rising star at 100 Victoria Street, but now she has a claim to movie stardom the sky’s the limit!
