ONE MESSAGE FROM
The Steering Committee
Aspire
(Verb) To want something very much or hope to achieve something or be successful.
I wanted to personally, and on behalf of the steering committee, thank you all for making Aspire the success that it is. When we first introduced the concept in 2010 without knowing exactly what it would become, we hoped that it would develop a momentum of its own and create a link between the different service streams with a strong customer ethos. Simply, it has done this and
much more, particularly in the last couple of years. With the hard work of all the ambassadors Aspire has grown into a significant entity that is the byword for service and collaboration, not just at Land Securities but within the industry. It combines the professionalism of delivering an excellent service together with fun, and what could be a better combination.
As we are in December it just leaves me to wish you and your families well for the festive season, and offer a special thank you to anyone who will be working and looking after our properties during this period.

ith the excitement just days away, it won’t be long before it’s that special time of the year again.
In recognition of all the teams’ hard work throughout the year and to celebrate the start of the holidays, Aspire hosted their annual seasonal party to help get you into the festive spirit. All members of the Aspire team were invited to join us on 13th December, the party started at 6.30pm and continued late into the evening. The venue was London’s stylish, multi-levelled Ball Brothers bar at Austin Friars. With an impressive selection of canapes, an extensive list of beers, wine and spirits and some great company, there was no better way to celebrate the start of the festive period. At a time that recognises the importance of coming together, it was great to see so many people in attendance.

ASPIRE’S 12 Days OF CHRISTMAS WHETHER IT WAS AT THE RECENT SCOREASONE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT OR AT LAND SECURITIES SITES ACROSS LONDON, A SMALL TEAM WERE WORKING TIRELESSLY TO SELL RAFFLE TICKETS IN SUPPORT OF THE HONEYPOT CHARITY. AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS, THE COLLECTION FOR THE ASPIRE RAFFLE SQUARES CAME TO AN END.

ith such a great response across the board, it took longer than expected before the final count for ticket sales were in. But thanks to the generosity of the Aspire Team and all the organisers who made the collection possible. This will help The Honeypots young carers who give their time in order to support the many young people who rely on them each week. With the festive season nearly in full swing, it is fitting that Land Securities chose a ’12 Days of Christmas’ theme for the competition. For 12 lucky individuals this meant that, from the 1st December, a winner was announced each working day. Prizes ranged from vouchers for retailers such as Argos, M&S and Nike to bottles of Bollinger champagne. Congratulations to the winners for their early gifts and to the wider team for making this holiday season all the more special for the good people at The Honeypot.

ONE COMMUNITY
FOURTEEN TEAMS, ONE TEAM SPIRIT With floodlights illuminating the pitches and referees on point, the scene was set at the Shoreditch Powerleague for the annual Aspire ScoreAsOne football tournament. Fourteen teams were in attendance, with players from Land Securities and a whole range of service providers, each one ready to give their all in what would surely be an evening to remember.
W
ith Portfolio Manager Daniel Moxham keeping track of scores, the teams were split into groups A and B in a league-style tournament. With every player looking the part, wearing the Aspire bibs in several cases, it wasn’t long before the first matches kicked off. Two games were played simultaneously and so there was never a dull moment, especially as every side brought so much energy to the pitch. Some teams in particular made a strong impression even in the early phases; A Load of Rubbish proved themselves anything but as they secured an early 7-0 win against NJC United. Meanwhile, on the other pitch, Brazilian Bin Men and Principle Panthers B displayed their skills time and time again as they maintained top positions in the league stage. Other teams, like Mixed Up Men, did not fare so well but still embodied the Aspire Team spirit throughout. Although they might have lost according to the scores, they never once lost any of their enthusiasm during the competition. Jordon Joseph, from Cardinal Place, 16 Palace Street, commented that it was ‘great seeing players coming off the pitch with their heads held high’, regardless of the result. The ‘One Team’ ethos championed by Aspire was also present in the form of the dozens of people who braved the November cold to cheer on their friends and colleagues. At times, you could barely move for the number of people pressed up against the railings, discussing tactics with players and providing support. Ahmed Ali, Postroom Manager at Cardinal Place, was one of the many to make the effort that evening, despite it only being his fourth day as a member of Land Securities. Clearly taken with the collective spirit of Aspire, Ahmed

commented that he ‘can’t wait’ to attend future events as part of the team. Of course, the tournament would not have been such a success without Senior Portfolio Manager Robert Trewick, whose former experience in managing similar football tournaments proved invaluable. Robert commented that a larger venue had been necessary to accommodate the ‘overwhelming level of interest’ shown, as the Aspire Team had surprised everyone with their level of commitment. Although the players seemed unaffected, onlookers began to feel the chill as the night grew progressively colder. Fortunately,

thanks to a BBQ tent close to the main pitches, people were provided with a meal as well as a way to stay warm. The individuals selling raffle tickets in support of The Honeypot Charity likewise braved the cold, staying late in order to maximise donations to the cause. On and off the pitch, the Aspire Team showed fantastic sportsmanship and a collective team spirit that brought everything together. Even the winter conditions and rain earlier in the evening could not dampen the spirits of the players, organisers and spectators who made the effort to participate in what was a great evening for all involved.

BYWATERS CLEAN UP Although every team gave it their all, the ScoreAsOne football tournament ultimately came down to one last match. After hours of heated competition, A Load of Rubbish and Help United had risen through the group stages and the knockout rounds to face each other in the final with everything to play for. With both teams having played to a draw earlier and impressing throughout the tournament, their friendly rivalry came to a head. Despite the cold conditions and playing through so many games to get there, both teams were clearly going for glory as the final match got off to a flying start. Playing through fatigue and even some minor injuries, neither side showed any signs of slowing down. Their energy was matched only by that of the spectators from the side of the pitch, who shouted encouragement and advice to both sides right until the end.

There was applause for both teams, hugs and cheers of ‘there’s only one Bywaters!’, with all players being congratulated on their performance. A short ceremony followed this, where Senior Portfolio Manager and tournament organiser Rob Trewick
awarded each member of the winning side with a trophy. A final award, for ‘Player of the Tournament’, was presented to Garrett O’Neill in recognition of his outstanding sportsmanship. Having played for teams ONC and Mixed Up Men with equal energy and commitment, Garrett perfectly demonstrated the ‘One Team’ ethos that was celebrated at the event. Congratulations to Garrett and all the team members for their achievements.

Even after such an impressive display of passion and skill, neither team had pulled out a decisive
victory when the final whistle blew. This meant that, after a minute or so for teams to decide on their orders of play, a nail-biting round of penalties began. The tension was palpable as each player stepped up to the mark before firing the ball home into the back of the net. It wasn’t until the seventh shots for each side that the result was at last decided, with A Load of Rubbish being crowned the winners of the match and champions of the tournament.
