ONE MESSAGE FROM

The Steering Committee Nurturing talent to provide exceptional service COLLABORATIVE WORKING ACROSS THE ASPIRE TEAM ENSURES WE PROVIDE THE VERY BEST POSSIBLE SERVICE, TAKING PRIDE IN EVERYTHING WE DO. Our team has a passion for delivering outstanding service, achieved through coaching and nurturing great talent; something that is reflected and encouraged throughout the Aspire network. From investing in the right resources to setting individuals up for success, to developing and supporting growth and career progression, through to rewarding those exceptional achievements. Portico’s values are very much reflected throughout those we work alongside within the Aspire program at One New Chance, Nova, Sky Garden, 20 Fenchurch Street, amongst others. The benefit of being part of the Aspire network is that it allows us to work closely alongside our partners to create one cohesive team, with the same goals and values. This ultimately results in the best possible customer experience. The Aspire network allows Landsec service partners to become one big community and work together as one big team. To create a supportive environment and team that celebrates people and their success is essential. Being part of the Aspire programme means colleagues are recognised for their performance and personal contribution, supported by their peers as part of the staff recognition awards. This culture compliments Portico’s own values - initiatives such as our annual ‘Portico People’ awards are a fantastic opportunity for us to recognise and celebrate the talented teams and individuals that work within the Portico family. We also know the importance of feeling valued as a team member and having your voice heard. My team and I at our support office regularly take the opportunity to spend time with different teams building relationships and ensuring open communication channels across our business. It is people who set us apart when it comes to exceptional service, driving the business forward with passion and encompassing our values. Collaboration is essential to ensure we go above and beyond each day, both with each other and with our partners at Aspire, to deliver excellent service in an empowering environment.

3 PEAKS CHALLENGE 15th-17th Sept 2017

ASPIRE AIMS FOR NEW HEIGHTS ON THE 15TH SEPTEMBER, A BRAVE TEAM OF ASPIRE MEMBERS FROM SITES ALL OVER LONDON WILL BE SETTING OUT TO TAKE ON THE NATIONAL THREE PEAKS CHALLENGE.

This monumental effort is all for a great cause; as well as providing a chance for the members to test themselves to the max, it will also be raising money for The Honeypot Children’s Charity. Providing much-needed support for young carers, the Honeypot organisation

works all year round to give vulnerable children the resources and opportunities they deserve. With such an enormous challenge ahead of them and more than 25 people taking part, it is fitting that the Aspire team has raised the bar for the amount they’re hoping to raise. With less than two months left to reach their target of £6,000, there’s no better time to show support for everyone getting involved.

How to sponsor our team To make an easy donation and to see the full list of Aspire adventurers in the ‘Three Peaks’ team, be sure to visit the official fundraising page at:

POLITENESS & POSITIVITY GO A LONG WAY ONE OF THE KEY VALUES THAT MAKES THE WIDER ASPIRE TEAM WORK SO WELL TOGETHER IS A GENERAL POLITENESS. Sometimes, just a little bit of extra care and a smile can make a huge difference for people on a day-to-day basis. This is something that Sebastian Barriga, of Ultimate Security, has proven time and time again. Based at 60 Ludgate Hill, he routinely meets and greets everyone that passes through the site. Whether it’s first thing in the morning or leaving the building at night, you can always count on him to be smiling, cheery and courteous.

members and Landsec customers. Landsec customer Dereck Mitchell comments that Sebastian is ‘just a really nice person, one who is always willing to help’.

His friendly personality and constant professionalism is something that has clearly been recognised by both fellow Aspire

While on her lunch break, Carol came across a member of the public inside H&M, taking pictures of the escalators and other parts of the site interior. Not wanting to leave anything to chance, she immediately contacted members of the onsite security team. The details of the man in question were then reported to the police anti-terrorism hotline number. Shortly after, it was confirmed that there was no threat and the member of the public was simply passing time.

little thought can go a long way in preventing potentially large problems. Carol Cockhill, of Landsec, recently showed the kind of care that is needed to keep sites like One New Change safe and secure.

PLAYER Despite this, Carol set a great seem. She acted for the sake of the OF THE MONTH example for the rest of the rest of the team and other members team that day by identifying of the public onsite, keeping safety a possible threat, putting a top priority. In recognition of her into practice a key Landsec attention to detail and approach message: to report any that day, she has been nominated by suspicious behaviour to the authorities, Landsec customer David Tucker, and wins no matter how insignificant it might this award for Corporate Responsibility.

Security Manager Jonathan Clark and the rest of the team were still able to remain professional and courteous at all times, carrying out thorough bag checks, welcoming guests and sending continuous updates to each other to keep everyone informed. Although safety was their top priority, Jonathan commented that they wanted ‘everyone leaving with a smile on their face’.

Site Maintenance Electrical Engineer Yaw Opoku. The fact that they were able to keep things running so efficiently is proof of their great organisational skills and teamwork. Best of all, they were still able to do all of this while enjoying the event with everyone else in attendance. As Security Site Manager Kamil Kotlarz commented, ‘it’s a busy period, but also one that’s very enjoyable’. The event was also a fantastic example of how well Aspire works together with Landsec customers.

Bea’s of Bloomsbury served up little slices of heaven in the form of luxury cupcakes, macaroons and brownies. They even had strawberries and cream available to give everyone an authentic taste of Wimbledon. Astroturf had also been laid out underneath the deckchairs and beanbags on the rooftop to bring a little piece of Centre Court to the site. It was little touches like this that gave the event a real touch of authenticity. Meanwhile, staff members at Madison’s Bar were always kept busy, providing cocktails, ‘mocktails’, champagne and a range of other drinks to the increasing number of guests. It was great to see that Aspire members and guests really seemed to be mingling and enjoying themselves, even while providing the best service possible. Some, like cleaner Carlos Varejao, had the chance to deal with tourists who had come as far as the USA for the event. Even Site Maintenance Electrical Engineer Yaw Opoku, who had been working behind the scenes dealing with technical checks, managed to find time to stop and enjoy the weather. Landsec and Aspire came together to bring all the excitement of Wimbledon to one of their busiest sites, making it as enjoyable for working members as it was for their visitors.

When asked about the Free Wimbledon Screenings, Pius comments that ‘it’s great to see people being inspired to get active and keep fit’.

In focus with

CORPS SECURITY, ONE NEW CHANGE

Pius Oriavwote

A SMILE THAT BEAMS BRIGHT ACROSS THE CITY For over four years, Pius Oriavwote has provided a flawless service, having become a valued and much-loved member of the team. In all that time, his signature smile has never failed to brighten the days of everyone at One New Change. Working as a member of the onsite security team, meeting and greeting is a significant part of Pius’s role. Whether it’s patrolling the rooftop on the sixth floor, directing visiting

members of the public or helping the rest of the Aspire team, this is always something that he takes to with great enthusiasm. Talking to him at length on this, Pius is driven to learn more about other people; ‘if you don’t learn, you don’t achieve’, he comments. His attitude is something that has clearly caught the attention of other Aspire staff. Security Manager Kamil Kotlarz (pictured with Pius) jokingly claims that ‘Pius is the happiest man I’ve ever seen’, while onsite Cleaner Carlos Varejao comments that ‘everyone knows Pius’. His calm, collected personality makes him easy to approach in times of difficulty or just when other members of the team need someone to talk to.

Pius claims that much of his outlook on life and approach to his role are largely linked to his love of music. Rather than rushing out the door for work, he makes time to listen to uplifting music to prepare himself for each new day. When asked about the Free Wimbledon Screenings, he comments ‘that it’s great to see people being inspired to get active and keep fit’. As a big fan of the sport, it’s one of his favourite times of the year and a great time to be working at One New Change. With the sun out and so much happening at One New Change, Pius will surely continue to put smiles on other peoples’ faces and be a source of stability for the rest of the team.

Be there, or be

New Street Square

J

ust a 15-minute walk away from the action at One New Change, the team at New Street Square had made every effort to celebrate the Wimbledon events. Bordered by six different sites, it’s no wonder Landsec chose New Street Square as another location to set up a huge screen. As with ONC, the screen was up and running from early in the morning to 21:30 Monday-Friday, bringing the action from Wimbledon live to everyone in the area. Food stands had been set up in the middle of the main square, offering everything from burgers and kebabs to sweet and savoury crepes.

10

Deck chairs had also been provided for the convenience of those watching the tennis, many of them under the cover of huge parasols set up for those who wanted a place in the shade. The water feature in the middle of the square was also ideal for anyone wanting to cool off in the heat.

Shirley Antwi’s enthusiasm could be seen around the square throughout the event.

As this was all happening right on the doorstep of the sites, it couldn’t have been easier for members of staff to come outside and join in the fun. The event gave Aspire members like Security Officers Shirley Antwi, Robert Loughran and Tom Swift a chance to enjoy the weather and get in the spirit of the event as well.

Although the broadcasts ran into the night, the cleaning staff did a great job ensuring that the area was tidy and presentable in time for the following morning. One individual in particular, Estate and Shredding Janitor Vladimir Prisacariu, really went a stage further, supervising the area and cleaning up glasses until late at night. He did this with a smile and never lost his good humour, something that impressed the bar managers and other members of staff onsite. By 1pm each day the Free Wimbledon Screenings were up and running and New Street Square was packed with well over 100 people. The whole experience was true testament to the great job Landsec did organising the event and the hard work of every Aspire member involved.

An ace at

Cardinal Place W

hile other screenings were happening across London, Landsec even brought the tennis home to their main base of operations at Cardinal Place. Setting up another huge screen at the ‘Cardinal Place Roof Garden’, thousands of people in Victoria flocked to the site throughout the tournament. There, at the top of the escalators, they found dozens of deckchairs arranged around another state-of-the-art wide screen. Andy Murray had never looked bigger or better as members of the public and Aspire staff were treated to a great view of the action at Wimbledon. The event organisers even adjusted the volume as necessary throughout the day, based on the number of people present at any one time.

Always keen to go the extra mile for customers, Harry Bromptons had set up a convenient popup bar next to the main screen. Offering their signature ice teas, cocktails, craft beers and wine, nobody ever had to stray far away from the screening to enjoy a delicious beverage. Security Officers Samet and Kaz Ustun were present for every day of the Free Wimbledon Screenings at Cardinal Place, quickly becoming familiar faces for visitors. Working seamlessly together with the cleaners and other members of staff, they helped to ensure that everything ran smoothly. Assistant Operations Manager Louise Ody commented that they had been absolutely fantastic throughout and that ‘the event was relaxed but secure thanks to them’. It was great to see Landsec, Aspire and their customers coming together to make it a memorable experience for everyone.

THE GREAT ASPIRE On the 30th June, the Great Aspire Bake Off took place with many members around London showing off their skills. Everyone was involved whether in a slice of the baking action, or simply enjoying a slice of cake. Judging continued throughout the day and before long some baking efforts started to rise above the rest. Hardip Purewal’s white and milk chocolate cheesecake tempted those with a sweet tooth at 60 Ludgate Hill. Elsewhere, Barthi Tomsu impressed with her twin loaves of banana walnut cake. A huge thank you to the judges, the bakers central to the event and everyone involved in supporting it.
