ONE MESSAGE FROM

The Steering Committee The Key to a Better Customer Service AS A GROUP THAT IS CONTINUOUSLY EXPANDING AND PROGRESSING, WE SHOULD ALWAYS BE DRIVEN BY THE DESIRE TO IMPROVE OUR CUSTOMER SERVICE AT EVERY AVAILABLE OPPORTUNITY. TO THIS END, WE CONTINUE TO IMPLEMENT OUR

Aspire KPI Assessment Scheme. KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) enable us to accurately track cross-service partner innovations and to more effectively determine areas for improvement. Our service providers are issued monthly KPI Scorecards to assess the performance of their team. To make the process as simple as possible, Assessment Criteria booklets have also been supplied to outline the details of the service KPIs they will be assessed on. These will be used across the board for each service stream, including Mechanical & Electrical, Front of House, Waste Management, Security, Emergency Procedures, Cleaning, Landscaping, Insurance and Lifts. We then meet monthly at KPI Working Groups to assess the results of the KPI Scorecards where members discuss topics such as Communication, Management Tasks, Performance Management, Contract Development, Performance Measures and how we can recognise and reward success. We hope that, with everyone’s participation and regular communication, this will continue to prove very beneficial to how we manage our services and to our customer service as a whole.

An Aspire Champion is the Chairman of the KPI Working Group and has specific roles within the group’s management. Jack Kelly

WE’RE ALL ABOUT YOU TEAMWORK COMES IN ALL SHAPES AND SIZES IN A BODY OF PEOPLE AS VARIED AS THE ASPIRE TEAM, IT IS ONLY NATURAL THAT THERE WOULD BE A RANGE OF SHAPES AND SIZE. Nowhere is this more obvious than at Cardinal Place with William Barrett and Francisco Romulo De La Cruz from NJC. While Francisco is one of the shortest members of the team, William is one of the tallest. Their different physiques allow them to carry out a range of tasks more effectively and they are never afraid to ask the other for help. This connection makes the duo a great team, capable of overcoming almost any problem they encounter. Francisco Romulo De La Cruz at the Zig Zag Building in Victoria.

LANDSEC SIGNS UP TO BUILD A SAFER WORKPLACE

Recognising the importance of this, Landsec has signed up to IOSH’s campaign pledge and has made a commitment to manage exposure to asbestos and the dangers that come with it. Just recently, Mark Rosamond and Adam Donoghue from NG Bailey were interviewed by IOSH

on these hazards and how they worked on a daily basis to avoid them. Both of them demonstrated an excellent understanding of the problem and ‘were spot on in their answers’, HSS Business Partner David Tucker commented. In particular, the two of them stressed the importance of good communication and proper induction, which together ensure the safety of all their sites for staff members and customers alike. We hope that Aspire members will follow the example set by Mark and Adam in order to create a safer workplace for everyone.

Who would like to help raise money for The Honeypot Children’s Charity? Oh, thanks Sarah Hotchen from NG Bailey.

O

n Tuesday 13th March, over 100 members put their thinking caps on for the Annual Aspire Quiz Night. Split into 15 different teams, from around London, combinations of people from Landsec and Aspire united in this year’s test of general knowledge and trivia. Although event organisers Amanda Heppelthwaite, Kelly Barlow and quizmaster Sarah Hotchen were setting up from 5pm, plenty of people began arriving ahead of schedule, looking forward to the evening ahead. As Harrild and Sons is based on Farringdon Street, just a stones throw from St Paul’s Cathedral, it was pretty accessible for Aspire members coming from City sites like New Street Square, Ludgate Hill and One New Change, but also an easy commute for teams from the West End.

The questions, devised by Amanda Heppelthwaite and Kelly Barlow, ranged from relatively simple to mind-numbingly difficult.

Combine this with the bar’s stylish yet comfortable lower level and it’s easy to see why this was the perfect location. By 6pm, the remaining preparations had been completed and the last few contestants were arriving. Soon everyone was seated and ready for the quiz to begin, and it was clear that a wide mix of Aspire members had made the effort to participate. Senior Client Relationship Manager Solomon Jackson and Sustainability Manager Andreanna Coley, of Bywaters, were both on team ‘Bin It To Win It’, determined to give it their all after coming last at the previous year’s quiz. Meanwhile, Landsec Operations Support Assistants Ross Wiles and Jordon Joseph were encouraging their teams. Operations Director Sarah Hotchen, of NG Bailey, commented that it was ‘great to see all the service partners represented, and even better to see some new faces.’

With everyone assembled and more than eight rounds of quizzing ahead, Sarah Hotchen took to the microphone and wasted no time firing off question after question. Before long, the excited chatter from the start of the quiz had died down to low mutterings and whispers between highly competitive teammates. The questions, devised by Amanda Heppelthwaite and Kelly Barlow, ranged from relatively simple to mind-numbingly difficult. Spread across many different topics, it gave every Aspire member with any specialist knowledge a chance to shine. Each team was also given a ‘Joker’, which could be played once to skip a category, just in case a team wasn’t strong on politics or English history! At the end of each round answer sheets were swapped with those of the neighbouring tables before being given to Amanda and Kelly to record the scores.

After four tense rounds, everyone involved took a well deserved break to recharge with a selection of food and drinks served straight to the tables. During this interval, the raffle was conducted, with all proceeds going towards the The Honeypot Children’s Charity. There were some fantastic prizes such as Amazon vouchers, Michelinstarred dining experiences, hotel escapes and a champagne evening at the Shard up for grabs. As Landsec Operations Director Ann-Marie Khan read out the numbers, there were shouts of triumph from around the bar as each lucky winner went up to collect their prize. A grand total of £665 was raised by Aspire, a brilliant amount for a single night. After the break things hotted up and all eyes were drawn to the large projector screen that had been set up especially to display the participating teams and their scores for each round. This served as a giant leader board, allowing everyone present to track how they were faring as scores were updated live.

‘Chapmans Army’ and ‘Corps Blimey’ got off to an early lead, but ‘Nine Inch Males’ and ‘Ultimate Power’ soon caught up and held a solid advantage for the rest of the quiz. By the time the quiz reached the final round of ‘Food and Drink’, there was only a two point difference between them, which made for a nail-biting finale. In the end, the team members of ‘Ultimate Power’ lived up to their name and were declared the 2018 champions. A special thanks to everyone for participating, to Kelly Barlow, Amanda Heppelthwaite and Sarah Hotchen for organising the event so well and to everyone who gave so generously to The Honeypot Children’s Charity. It was a fantastic night that is sure to be remembered as another Aspire great.

OPERATIONS DIRECTOR, NG BAILEY

Sarah Hotchen NORTHERN SOUL, GREAT BRITISH SPIRIT There are very few people across the Aspire team, who show the kind of strength that NG Bailey’s Operations Director Sarah Hotchen constantly demonstrates. Originally from Sheffield, Sarah’s work has taken her all over London and made her one of the most recognisable and respected faces of Aspire. It was Sarah’s confidence and enthusiasm that helped make the recent Aspire Quiz Night such a success. As quizmaster of the event, perched on a bar stool with microphone in hand, Sarah was able to keep everyone engaged throughout. Trying to keep the attention of over 100 people for more than three hours would be a daunting task for most, but Sarah took to it all in her stride. When considering everyone in attendance, she commented that it was ‘great to see all the service partners represented, and even better to see some new faces’.

be music. Although she already has an extensive knowledge in this field, spanning different decades and genres, she is still eager to listen to new bands and acts. With this in mind, it’s not surprising that she’s been to so many gigs and festivals. Sarah is always the first in the queue for the Glastonbury music festival and still tries to go every year.

Although she has dealt with everything from service desks to forming contracts with new clients, one thing her roles have all had in common is that she is always at the centre of NG Bailey’s activity.

When it comes to quizzes, Sarah’s preferred category would always

Sarah began her journey with NG Bailey as a HR Business Partner in 2008. Right from the start, she was recognised for her abilities to be proactive and to take the initiative. Her duties involved liaising closely with the Managing Director and working as part of the leadership team. She continued to excel in this role and quickly moved up the management ladder. She has been Operations Director of the company for over a year.

ORIGINALLY FROM SHEFFIELD, SARAH’S WORK HAS TAKEN HER ALL OVER LONDON AND MADE HER ONE OF THE MOST RECOGNISABLE AND RESPECTED FACES OF ASPIRE.

As she has such a firm understanding of how things work within the company, Sarah is always a go-to person for any issues that might arise, for the staff members of Landsec and their other service providers as well. Being a natural leader, Sarah has also been an inspiration for other Aspire members on recent events such as the Three Peaks Challenge 2017. She actually took the NG Bailey team members who were going on the challenge out for several training sessions to make sure they were prepared. When it came to the challenge itself, Sarah was often seen leading the way, even when the going got tough. Hiking up the largest mountains the UK had to offer seemed to just be another step of her journey. Full of determination, spirit and consideration for the rest of the team, Sarah continues to lead by example both in and outside the work place. She has proven time and time again that she is capable of taking the initiative in any situation.

AS A NATURAL LEADER, SARAH WAS AN INSPIRATION FOR OTHER ASPIRE MEMBERS ON EVENTS SUCH AS THE THREE PEAKS CHALLENGE.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

While other members of the security team called for an ambulance, Sean called for cleaning assistance. This unpleasant situation would have taken longer to deal with had it not been for a brilliant response from David Griffin (Right) and Gheorghe Luca, both of NJC. Just two minutes after being notified, they had both arrived at the scene, buckets and brushes in hand. Despite the unfortunate mess, both Gheorghe and David regarded it as ‘just another job’. Between the two of them, the area was looking spotless once more in a very short amount of time.

For their handling of the situation and the speed of their response, Sean nominated them both for Player of the Month Awards for Exceptional Contribution.

SIGNS OF THE TIMES

As part of Landsec’s big rebranding, the signage used across the entire portfolio is undergoing a transformation. From Victoria to the City, every hazard sign, directional sign and advertisement will be changed to feature the new ‘cornerstone’ shapes. A new identity means a new philosophy for Landsec, a new modern approach by which the company will be recognised by colleagues and customers alike. Our signage development will require every member of staff across the board to be on the lookout for old ‘Land Securities’ signs and to report them so they can be updated. It will take everyone working together in order to make these changes as quick and as easy as possible. It won’t be long before the new signs will start appearing on your site. So If you spot any signs that need updating, please don’t hesitate to contact aspire@landsec.com.
