ONE MESSAGE FROM
The Steering Committee
Aspire wouldn’t be possible, without you! THIS SUMMER IS A VERY EXCITING TIME FOR ASPIRE. AS IF THE RUSSIA 2018 WORLD CUP ISN’T ENOUGH FOR THINGS TO BE BUSIER THAN USUAL IN THE WORKPLACE, THE ASPIRE CALENDAR IS ALSO PACKED WITH EVENTS ACROSS THE WARMER MONTHS. We’ve had some true legends of the game at the Aspire Derby II showing that you don’t need to go to Russia to see world-class team spirit. The eWorld Cup tournament is now in full swing with the eagerly anticipated Aspire eWorld Cup Finals Night fast approaching, plus there’s a unique piece of F1 history parked at 60 Ludgate Hill. Then as if all this isn’t enough, Aspire’s intrepid adventurers for the Peak District Challenge 2018 have now been confirmed.
The Three Peaks Challenge 2017 was an excellent example of Aspire’s TogetherAsOne spirit.
At the heart of all these events is the same teamwork, dedication and spirit that has made Aspire the success it is today. We would like to thank the very special individuals who work tirelessly from behind the scenes, asking for no special recognition to make the necessary preparations. You know who you are! As we continue to challenge ourselves, we are reminded of how lucky we are to have so many dedicated individuals within the Aspire team. Without your continued efforts and dedication, most of the things happening this summer simply wouldn’t be possible.

WE’RE ALL ABOUT YOU NO.10’S CHARITY OF THE YEAR 2018 ON MONDAY 11TH JUNE, A SELECTION OF ASPIRE’S LUCKY MEMBERS APPEARED ON THE DOORSTEP OF THE PM, AFTER BEING INVITED TO ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS ADDRESSES IN THE COUNTRY. David Wickens (Landsec), Amanda Heppelthwaite (NJC), Lawrence Merry (Ultimate Security), David Sayers (NG Bailey) and Barbara Rigano (Office Concierge) joined The Honeypot Children’s Charity for a unique day of celebration. Honeypot had been chosen by No. 10 Downing Street staff as their Charity of the Year 2018. This event was organised in recognition of everything Aspire and the Honeypot supporters have done to make the charity the success it is today. A drinks reception was hosted for everyone involved, with several speeches made to mark the event.

here was no better way to kick off the World Cup season than with the second ever Aspire Derby match. The Aspire All Stars FC and the Aspire Legends XI met at the City of London Academy in Bermondsey for one of this years most anticipated Aspire events so far. Both teams looked the part as they took to the pitch in their traditional Aspire kits, with the All Stars in white and the Legends in dark blue. With 30 footy mad members up for the event, both teams knew squad rotation would be key with several members swapping in and out to ensure an even balance of play. A good sized crowd of Aspire spectators had assembled from Landsec sites all over London, with enough fans to stretch across the whole length of the pitch. The game officially kicked off at 6.30pm as scheduled, with both teams showing plenty of passion from the first whistle. With valuable ‘bragging rights’ up for grabs it was clear in the first few minutes that there was everything to play for, with the ball frantically zipping back-and-forth across the middle of the park. Spin it, to win it!

As shouts of encouragement came from the spectators, both teams gave little ground. That was, until the Legends launched a decisive new attack that split the All Stars’ defence to score the first goal of the game. After 45 minutes of action, the half-time whistle blew with the All Stars left shell shocked by a confidence draining 4-0 score line. Both teams were given the chance to take a well-deserved break and discuss their vital second half strategy. Fortunately, NJC’s Amanda Heppelthwaite and Kelly Barlow from Landsec had been busy prior to kick-off organising oranges, snacks and vital fluid refreshments for everyone. Before long, the second half resumed and with the All Stars mad keen to make up for lost ground they implemented a new system and re-energised shape. This shift in strategy had an instant impact and soon saw them smashing home their first goal. Those on the sidelines, such as Vince Cofie and Kristina Jakaityte, cheered even louder as the crowd begun rooting for the underdogs. The substitute players off the pitch helped to co-ordinate the Legends efforts on the pitch. Even when their team was 5-1 up, they always ensured that everyone stuck to their positions and never underestimated the All Stars for a second. Much of the Legends’ 6

success was down to the dedicated approach of the players and surprise star Solomon ‘The Cat’ Jackson in goal. Though he admitted he was ‘very, very nervous’ before the game, Sol showed no sign of this out on the pitch as he repelled attack after attack.

There were a lot of impressive displays, but Landsec Operations Support Assistant Uriah Higgins stood out for many as the ‘Man of the Match’. Gliding past defenders he was untouchable as the ‘lucky number 11’ striker and even with the All Stars putting up a brave resistance, Uriah bagged himself a hat trick before the match was over. Ultimately, the winning combination of sharp attacking play, a watertight strong defence and teamwork led the Legends to a 6-2 victory. But even after the final

whistle had blown everyone continued to show great sportsmanship. Players from both teams congratulated each other on their efforts, with hugs and handshakes exchanged plus of course some enthusiastic cheering from the winners of the game. The Aspire All Stars didn’t manage to avenge the previous year’s defeat, but this has done nothing to dampen their enthusiasm for next year. Congratulations to the Aspire Legends XI and a big thank you to everyone for making it an evening to remember.

OFFICE CONCIERGE, 62 BUCKINGHAM GATE
Olivia Cater A STAR WITH MANY HIDDEN TALENTS Based on reception at 62 Buckingham Gate, Olivia Cater has quietly integrated into the front of house team at one of Victoria’s most prestigious business addresses. However, behind her polite, quiet attitude, is a whole wealth of achievements worth making noise about. For as long as she can remember, Olivia has been driven by a fierce passion for sport. From an early age, she was recognised for her football skills after showing a lot of promise on the primary school pitch. When moving to secondary school, she received the coaching necessary to develop her abilities to a higher level. Before long her sporting achievements grew. She was becoming not only known for her football skills but for several other activities as well. She became the javelin champion in her school and, in recognition of her achievements, the sports ambassador.
10
Shortly after this, Olivia joined the Capital City Academy in North-West London to develop her abilities even further. Between the ages of 14-17, she represented England on the women’s football team, playing as a striker against other international teams such as Sweden. These are times that Olivia looks ‘back on fondly’, she comments, having amassed enough sporting trophies to fill a small room. Despite all her individual accomplishments, Olivia never failed to value the people who helped her to succeed. One of the things she remembers the most was the team

spirit out on the pitch and how the team’s success was more important than her own. Olivia still loves sport today and regularly plays squash, believing that fitness is key. More recently, Olivia has shown a keen interest in media, writing and the arts. Her passion for media and music goes beyond just a hobby as she has travelled to America to write and direct music videos. Her work

on such projects has led to her receiving awards and a lot of attention in media circles. On top of this, she has dedicated a lot of her time to writing poetry and short stories. After being inspired by such artists as Benjamin Zephaniah, she has hopes that her own book, titled ‘The Beautiful Mess’, will be published soon. Equipped with a range of interesting talents and the determination to succeed, Olivia has come a long way since the playing fields of her school days. She has repeatedly done both her country and her team proud and we are extremely excited to have her talents on our side.

t’s not often you get the chance to see a Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 W08 EQ Power+. What’s rarer still is having a championship-winning one parked in your main reception area. But thanks to Landsec customer Petronas, this unique part of history is being exhibited at 60 Ludgate Hill. What makes this vehicle even more special is that it drove Lewis Hamilton to victory, clinching his fourth World Drivers’ Championship at the Mexican Grand Prix. Although it is not a public exhibition, all Aspire members are welcome to visit the estate and will be treated to the best possible views from the grid walk. To keep this exhibition running smoothly, there has been a magnificent effort from Aspire. Members of security have been keeping a close eye on things since the car arrived, while those working at reception are always happy to answer any queries that visitors might have about the car. Members of NJC, meanwhile, have done a stellar job in keeping the vehicle looking spotless for Mr Hamilton. In addition to providing an extremely stylish new feature for the site, this exhibition has been a fantastic way for Landsec to strengthen its relationship with one of its prestigious customers.

he Peak District Challenge might be nearly three months away but the excitement for this momentous challenge is already on the rise. 2017’s Three Peaks climbing veterans will be joined by excited newcomers as they look to take on one of the most trying physical tests around.
This year, there will be two types of challenge on offer to Aspire’s adventurers between 21st and 22nd September. The first, the 25km Copper Challenge, is more accessible and is designed to be finished within 9 hours. Those who have signed up for the Bronze Challenge, meanwhile, will cover 50km and reach peaks over 460m high. Having both available has made the event more accessible for people of different skill levels. One of the best things about last year’s challenge was how well everyone was able to support each other. When things got tough, the other members of the team could always be relied on to give them the support they needed. This year we aim to take team spirit to an all new high with our ‘No man or woman left behind’ approach. No matter how long it takes, the team only completes the challenge when the last member crosses the line. New friendships will be made along the way and everyone will be left with a better understanding of the people they work with. By pushing themselves to their limits and beyond, members taking part will achieve things they never thought possible. This will be more than just a challenge for Aspire members, it is sure to be an adventure, one that is every bit as rewarding as it is difficult. Good luck to everyone with their preparations and the clock is ticking on that training!
A big thank you to everybody who registered their interest in the Peak District Challenge, Aspire are delighted to announce that the following adventurers have been confirmed so far…

An achievable challenge, following a circular route from Hathersage to Baslow along riverside paths and back along a hilly route via Curbar and Frogatt edges. 700m of ascent and some of the best views in the Peak!

his month, city wide transformation started as Aspire members from Cleaning and Engineering received their improved uniforms on 11th June. This included new caps, polo shirts, trousers and even matching jumpers to compliment the look. Dark blue in colour, with pink lining on the shirts, the new Landsec Aspire uniforms has made every member of staff feel integrated and TogetherAsOne. The uniforms have been redesigned with the ‘one team’ ethos in mind. You can clearly see the Landsec and Aspire logos plus the ‘one team, one vision’ brand line on all the new shirts. To determine the service stream, either Cleaning or Engineering has been clearly printed on the right sleeve making identifying the right person for the job easier than ever before. The general attitude has been one of excitement, as Aspire members seem very keen to show off their new threads. Vertical Operative Rogerio Dourado, of NJC, commented that ‘the new look is much better’ as it reflects the combination of services that Aspire

With Cleaning and Engineering now looking so integrated, security guards across the capital have also been treated to a sharp new look. In their new but modestly unbranded suits, they have become the very image of professionalism. These new versions have a more ‘fitted’ cut than the originals, making them more practical as well. We’re glad to have seen such a positive response to these new uniforms from everyone. They represent the new identity of Aspire, as much a statement of unity as one of fashion.

NJC, CARDINAL PLACE
ON TOP OF THE WORLD For Vertical Cleaning Operative Andy Mulhall, working at Cardinal Place certainly has its perks. Being outside at more than a dozen floors up, Andy gets a birds eye view of the whole Victoria area every day that he goes to work. After more than five months onsite, this is one thing that never gets old for Andy. While his fellow Aspire members work inside, it’s up to him and his colleagues to ensure the buildings on the estate look stunning on the outside at all times. Working so high up for extended periods might be daunting for some but for Andy, it’s just another day at the office. Speaking to him about interests outside of work, it’s clear that he’s an avid supporter of the ‘beautiful game’ and is excited about this month’s World Cup in Russia. A West Ham fan at heart, he has said that he plans on watching as many games as possible and will of course only be cheering his beloved England.
22
Not content on just being a spectator of the beautiful game, Andy also plays at his local hobby league with friends whenever he gets the chance. He thought the Aspire Derby II was a great idea and would have loved to have showed off his silky skills had he not been abroad at the time. Already thinking about next year’s derby, he says that he’ll have his boots at the ready and will be the first man on the pitch. As someone who enjoys his daily work routine and with the rest of the World Cup to look forward to, the future is looking bright and sparkling for Andy.
