WELCOME TO Frisco – the city that plays!

Play is good for our minds, our souls, our spirit. Our lives were already hectic before last year; we probably need play now more than ever. Playtime JEFF CHENEY isn’t just for kids — it’s great for grownups, too. So, in Frisco, you’ve come to the best place to play. You’ve also come to the #1 Best Place to Live in America (2018 Money magazine); the Best Place to Do Business in Texas and Best Place to Raise an Athlete (Men’s Journal ). In fact, we’re also known as Sports City USA because we’re home to six ‘pro’ teams and organizations (including Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Stars and FC Dallas) which practice or play in state-of-the-art venues. We’re also recognized for being one of the ‘most successful’, ‘fastest growing’ and ‘safest’, cities in the country. Besides wellbeing, Frisco supports safety initiatives and programs that promote health and cleanliness. The Global Biorisk Advisory Council’s (GBAC) STAR Accreditation is the cleaning industry’s only outbreak prevention, response and recovery accreditation for facilities. Several of our venues — including Ford Center at The Star, Comerica Center, Frisco Discovery Center, as well as hotels including the Omni Frisco Hotel and Hyatt Regency Frisco — are going through the accreditation program. Our first venue to receive the GBAC ‘gold star’ is also the first of its kind in the U.S. — and it’s right here in Frisco! Located inside Stonebriar Centre, KidZania is a city where kids get to ‘try out’ what they want to be when they grow up. Children choose from more than 100 roleplaying, career adventures.

Other great places to play include the National Soccer Hall of Fame, TrainTopia and the National Videogame Museum. If shopping centers are your kind of playground, check out more than 9 million square feet of retail and restaurants anchored by IKEA, Centre at Preston Ridge and Stonebriar Centre. Head to historic downtown Frisco, known as The Rail District, for quaint shopping and dining. Even more shopping and dining shines at The Star, an entertainment district lined with patio and destination dining, specialty shops, and even some history stops as you follow the outdoor Ring of Honor Walk, a nod to the legendary Dallas Cowboys. Not far away, continue walking around Hall Park, home to the Texas Sculpture Garden. It includes more than 200 works, making it the largest private collection of contemporary Texas sculpture. That’s not all, we collect art, too. Our city displays more than 80 artworks throughout our city. There are more ways to play at more than a half dozen golf courses — from resort-style to public links. Frisco is destined to become ‘the Silicon Valley of golf’ now that PGA of America is building its headquarters and two championship courses here. We even have a disc golf course, the largest skate park in North Texas and more than 90 miles of hike and bike trails. There are so many ways to play in Frisco! We’re ready, resilient and recovering. Frisco has open doors and open arms to welcome you back when you’re ready to travel. Sincerely, Mayor Jeff Cheney

OUTDOOR GALLERY

“FETCHING WATER”

FRISCO’S CITYWIDE ART INSTALLATIONS CELEBRATE A COMMITMENT TO CULTURE.

Frisco’s

landscape is a veritable outdoor art gallery. Throughout the city’s parks and outdoor spaces, a collection of public art with more than 60 pieces is on view. It is one of the largest municipal collections in North Texas. The artwork ranges from symbolic representations of Frisco’s history to its ongoing connection with nature to imaginative sculptures that create a sense of wonder. In fact, Frisco’s commitment to public art is so strong it’s supported by a city ordinance. In 2002, the Frisco City Council established the city’s Public Art Program by passing a Percent for Art Ordinance. This tool, used by public agencies, states and cities around the country, requires that a percentage of Capital Project Funds be used to install public artwork. The ordinance also called for a development of a Public Art Master Plan that identifies guidelines for specific

public art opportunities and supporting community programs. Frisco’s Public Art Master Plan was approved in 2017. The Frisco City Council appoints a citizen Public Art Board to oversee the implementation of the Public Art Program. The mission of Frisco’s outdoor art program is to enhance Frisco’s cultural and artistic vibrancy by providing contemporary art for the enjoyment of visitors and residents alike. The city’s art experience is literally as accessible as a walk in the park. Here is more information about a few of the most notable pieces in Frisco’s celebrated outdoor public art collection. “Fetching Water” honors the hard work and dedication of the women who helped build Frisco. Sculpted by local artist Janice Hart Melito, the bronze piece is located in front of the George A. Purefoy Municipal Center and depicts a young woman pumping water from a well by hand. Her face is determined and turned away from the harsh wind as her hair and clothing are caught up in a strong gust. “Cattle Drive” is located in Frisco’s Central Park. The legendary cattle drives along the historic Shawnee Trail are “THE WIZ” BY ART SHIRER AT TEXAS SCULPTURE GARDEN

brought to life by artist Anita Pauwels. The multimedia installation includes larger than life bronze longhorns leaping, bucking and grazing, as cowhands on horseback corral the herd. Interspersed are bronze panels that tell the story of the drives and carved stones citing the wit and wisdom of the trail. The Texas Sculpture Garden is recognized as the largest private collection of contemporary sculptures by Texan artists ever assembled and available free to the public. Located within the 162-acre Hall Park, it is an indoor-outdoor collection of more than 40 works of art and is open to the public year-round. Pieces are crafted with bronze, wood, steel, aluminum and other mediums, and range in moods from lively and whimsical to abstract and thoughtprovoking. Enhancing the experience is a backdrop of lush landscaping, lakes and fountains, and seating throughout invites you to sit and stay awhile to enjoy the art. And as you spend the day exploring Frisco, you’ll no doubt see “#iHeartFrisco” hearts located throughout the city, including at Toyota Stadium, Frisco Discovery Center and Frisco Square. Be sure to snap a photo of yourself and your friends with the art, and share the love on social media.

OMNI PGA FRISCO RESORT RENDERING

HEADING “FORE” FRISCO PGA OF AMERICA IS MOVING TO TOWN

NorthTexas

is no stranger to world-class golfing. After all, DFW is where some of the sport’s greatest players hail from: Ben Hogan, Lee Trevino, Ralph Guldahl, Jack Burke Jr., Justin Leonard, Jordan Spieth, Byron Nelson and Tom Kite all called the area home at one time. Add to that Frisco’s prime location, and it’s no wonder that PGA of America has made the very smart (if we may say so ourselves) decision to relocate its headquarters to the city in 2022. The PGA headquarters will be part of a 600-acre mixed-use development that will also include new golf courses, a resort and a 127,000-square-foot convention center. The 521-room Omni PGA Frisco Resort will serve as basecamp for visiting golfers as they play two championship golf courses, a short course and practice areas totaling 46 holes. The courses, practice area and a club house will be owned by the city and open to the public. Further connecting the development to the community at large, more than 300 Frisco Independent School District student athletes will golf on the courses weekly, no doubt inspiring the next generation of professional and amateur golfers. And not all of the recreation will be played out on the links: The development will also include a technologically advanced retail village, parks and open space, plus several miles of trails.

A welcoming gateway at Frisco’s northern border, the upscale development will be located at Rockhill Parkway and Legacy Drive, approximately one-third of a mile south of U.S. 380. The PGA’s Northern Texas Section will also move to PGA Frisco, where state-of-the-art connectivity will provide opportunities to pilot promising new growthof-the-game programming for all 41 sections of PGA of America. Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney says the signature development will not only change the future of Frisco’s landscape, “It will transform the sport, growing a new generation of pros, fans and golf enthusiasts. As Sports City USA, we’re thrilled to partner with another worldclass brand like the PGA of America. We’re also honored Omni is, once again, committing such a huge investment in our community, recognizing the potential to grow entertainment, tourism and economic development in one of the fastest-growing cities in America.” Omni has another property located at The Star in Frisco. “Partnering with the PGA of America and City of Frisco to build a brand new, luxurious golf resort in north Texas is an unprecedented move in the strategic growth of our company,” says Blake Rowling, president of TRT Holdings, Inc., parent company of Omni Hotels & Resorts. “Omni is known for its elevated service and amenities, including golf, and this resort, alongside the headquarters of the PGA of America, promises to be a first-class development that will attract thousands of people per year.” The golf courses are expected to open in summer 2022. The hotel, convention center, and other facilities are expected to open within six months of that date. The first PGA tournament event to take place in Frisco will be the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship in 2023. And who knows? When you pay a visit to PGA Frisco, maybe you’ll be teeing off next to a future Ben Hogan!

keep you up to date on the very latest COVID-19 information at visitfrisco.com/covid19-updates. There you’ll find what’s open, what’s not and any restrictions. The GBAC STAR Accreditation is the cleaning industry’s only outbreak prevention, response and recovery accreditation for facilities. This performance-based accreditation program helps facilities demonstrate they have the work practices, procedures and protocols to prepare, respond and recover from outbreaks and pandemics, instilling confidence in customers, staff and key stakeholders. A number of Frisco venues and partners are currently going through the process of completing the GBAC STAR Accreditation program, including Ford Center at The Star, Omni Frisco Hotel, Frisco Discovery Center and Hyatt Regency Frisco. Please know: Frisco businesses, hotels and attractions have reopened safely and thoughtfully. Our Visit Frisco Convention Sales & Services department is ready to meet again, whether that be in-person or virtually. And our Visit Frisco Sports & Events department is ready to assist you in getting back in the game, whether that be rescheduling an event or planning your next tournament. So, welcome back. We’ve missed you.
