1-4-3-3 Basic Set Up

from this basic set up we are able to derive many new solutions

Those solutions could be interchangable during the duration of a match.

For the purpose of this discussion we use three different combinations of 1-4-3-3 system of play. Always remember, there are many other solutions. COMBINATIONS:

fullbacks advance down the field to the opposite goal line to create opportunity for cross over lapping runs from midfield cross runs between forwards, creating space for potential shot on goal

General Characteristics: central forward is placed in the center behind the remaining forwards and at front of wide midfielders midfield is congested fullbacks play wide and deep goalkeeper involved in the build up diamond shape well structured throughout the system of play

Defensive:

immediate pressure in the midfield, double marking when fullback penatrates down the flank left-midfilder(LM) or rightmidfielder(RM) covers the space behind him well organiazed diamond shape prevents opponent’s penetration and playing to open space

General Characteristics: forwards are apart from each other midfield is congested fullbacks move to the middle to support advancing forward midfielders goalkeeper involved in the build up diamond shape well structured throughout the system of play three forwards apart from each other means better offensive counter-attack or break through fast forwards fit perfectly this set up, they can cover the space quickly
