Welcome to The Tile Depot’s 2023 Lookbook. A jam-packed issue that forecasts some changing trends within the coming year and showcases some of our current and ongoing favourites.

2022 has definitely been the year of colour and pattern, with home owners increasingly expressing their personality through some bold and exciting tile choices. While we expect this to continue, we are also seeing a move towards really rustic and raw designs, evident in the trending handmade aesthetic, roughly textured stone designs, and bold and dramatic marble effects.

Porcelain collections that capture the character and textures of natural stones, rich in organic tactile surfaces, are increasing in popularity. The more realistic and organic the stone design, the better. They pair beautifully with natural stone mosaics and handmade-effect tiles, contributing to the biophilic design aesthetic that is informing many interior design decisions. High-end bathrooms seem to be leaning towards dark and moody designs, whilst the demand for warm and light stone designs is never waning. Natural marble mosaics will continue to be used for accent details especially in bathrooms, with the COLOSSEUM fluted marble collection (pg 47) predicted to be the hottest new product in The Tile Depot collection for 2023.

Also drawing from nature is the increasing desire for quite bold and dramatic marble designs, particularly in naturally rare colourways like golds and greens. Marble designs that really shout for attention, rather than forming a quiet backdrop are increasingly being sought.

The popularity of handmade tiles, such as The Tiles of Ezra collection - exclusive to The Tile Depot, is seeing an exponential growth in popularity in 2022 and demand for this aesthetic is expected to continue to rise for the forseeable future. Porcelain collections that replicate handmade craftsmanship, with a higher degree of durability, versatlity and finishing, are lines to also look out for. 2023 is going to be an exciting year, rich in texture and mood enhancing designs.

MATERICI

The depth of colour in the MATERICI collection has to be seen to be believed. A bold subway design with a very high gloss finish, an intense colour with variation of shade and vintage edge detailing.

Materici is at the fore of the latest European designs and is often featured with large format stone-effect porcelain tiles.

TINT

The TINT collection of petite subway tiles is a whimsical range of brick ceramic wall tiles inspired by handmade zellige & bejmat tiles. Made in Italy, the collection comprises five pastel colourways drawn from nature. Each colourway has multiple faces with different shading intensities. A vintage edge treatment completes the authentic handmade aesthetic, and a beautiful matt finish that doesn’t bounce back against the light, allows the unique colour tones to display their beauty to the full. 4D

An eye catching collection of 3D-effect wall tiles designed for sophisticated interiors. Currently available in two designs - the chevron and diamond. Both of which add a very contemporary texture to any space.

This Italian collection is only made in two colourways - white and deep blue. The white option is for lovers of texture and more subdued feature walls. The deep prussian blue is a really luxurious shade and the perfect choice for those who love colour and making a bold statement.

ARGILE

Porcelain Interior Walls & Floors

ARGILE is a porcelain tile collection that looks and feels like hand-worked clay. It has a matt, slightly uneven surface that feels lovely under hand or feet. It is a great option for people who love the handmade aesthetic but who prefer the benefits of durable porcelain and more “perfect” surfaces. Suitable for both floors and walls in both residential and commercial settings, ARGILE is a gorgeous option for kitchens, bathrooms, laundries and even cafés and restaurants.

LANSE

LANSE picket is a statement wall tile range in an eye-catching double arrow format. It’s strong geometric shape, combined with six fashionable colourways, gives the Lanse a really strong presence. They have a smooth matt finish that accentuates its modern design and the variation of shade throughout the tiles is characteristic of the wall tile collections currently coming out of Europe.

KROMATIKA is a colourful range of matt porcelain tiles in a hexagonal format. Suitable for both walls and floors in residential and light commercial interiors.

Stocked in nine colours that have been inspired by nature, each with a slight variation in shade between the tile pieces. Designed by one of the worlds leading small tile specialists, Equipe, Kromatika is a Spanish collection whose hexagonal shape gives it an edginess perfect for contemporary interiors.

TRIBECA

TRIBECA is the most popular wall tile collection in the Tile Depot range. With ten contemporary colourways, there is something for everyone and with the versatile subway format, they can be laid in a myriad of installation patterns for that bespoke effect.

The Tribeca range comprises a high-gloss porcelain tile with manufactured worn edges for a slightly industrial vibe. Each colourway comes with a range of shade intensities that varies between the tile faces. This variation, combined with a highly reflective surface, adds energy and personality to the spaces they adorn. A spectacular and colourful collection.

CASABLANCA

CASABLANCA is a vibrant and colourful ceramic wall tile range designed to create impact. They have a glossy finish and slightly undulating surface, that reflects light adding energy and character. A gentle wavy edge gives the tiles a slightly handmade-effect.

There are nine colours in the Casablanca range, each a random mix of light, mid and dark shades. The variance is more noticeable on some colours than others

GLAM

The GLAM collection consists of large format, 500x1000mm, porcelain tiles with the appearance of contemporary botanical wallpaper. They can be used on any interior wall including splash zones and showers. They comprise incredibly ornate, high resolution designs, rich with colour and energy that will transform walls into scenic surfaces. Three designs are stocked at The Tile Depot with another eleven available on indent.

Home Built by Generation Homes Auckland South

Ordered at the Cerasie International tile Fair in September 2022, HOME is a new Italian collection that introduces the kitkat or finger mosaic concept in a brick tile format. Each tile contains six linear strips that create the finger mosaic texture. Due to arrive in early 2023, HOME will be stocked in six colourways, each with a range of shade and colour intensities that vary from tile to tile.

Ordered at the Cerasie International tile Fair in September 2022, WABISABI is an Italian collection that replicates handmade bejmat tiles. There are slight dimensional differences between the pieces - both in length and width - which are part of the intended design and a key feature of authentic handmade zellige tiles.

Wabisabi brings a broad range of colours in a versatile rectangular 50x150mm format. Suitable for floors and walls. WABISABI are made of glazed porcelain and do not require sealing, will not wear or abrade. Available in eight colourways.

UNIVERSAL

Create a superb feature in your interiors with UNIVERSAL. A collection of three unique decorative porcelain stoneware designs with a highly detailed finish that gives an almost wallpaper-like appearance. Designed and manufactured in Portugal, GENESIS is a collection of large format ceramic wall tiles with embossed patterns across their surface. Available in four designs in a neutral warm white, the GENESIS collection is a fantastic way to add texture and dimension without creating overtly dramatic walls. PIANA

The PIANA collection from Italy is the perfect alternative to authentic stacked stone. Made of glazed porcelain, they can be fixed to a variety of existing wall surfaces and are suitable for both interior and outdoor areas. FISH SCALE

FISH SCALE mosaics are believed to have originated in Morocco in the early 18th Century. The design, also known as scallop, mermaid scales, and fans, was originally inspired by the rolling sea, and has become a popular design throughout modern interior walls. It is particularly sought after for showers and bathrooms, and adds interest and texture to any space. Fish scale mosaics can be installed in all directions for stunning effect, helping you create your own personal oasis.

The Tile Depot has two natural stone fish scale mosaics in carrara and nero marquina marbles. They have a lovely smooth honed surface and being natural stone, no two tiles are the same. Note: They must be sealed with a penetrating sealer prior to installation.

PENNY ROUNDS

Having first graced bathrooms and kitchens in the early 1900s, the penny mosaic has made a tremendous contemporary comeback. Designed to add fine texture and impact, they are perfect for feature walls and splashbacks. They are also a fantastic option for curved walls and colonnades as they easily wrap around curved surfaces. Ideal for creating contrast and texture, they are suited to a wide range of design genres and remain timeless due to their simple geometry.

There are nine Penny Round mosaic designs stocked at The Tile Depot in a range of materials from glass, porcelain, copper, brass and natural stone.

Penny Round Black Glass

MOSAIX OREO is a unique honed stone mosaic with a coarse mineral grain. It has an innteresting mix of colours, dominated by shades of grey with a hint of blush. A natural stone mosaic for interior walls, it will require sealing prior to installation.

Fantastic as an accent wall, kitchen or laundry splashback, shower niche or even a bespoke kitchen island face. It’s use is only limited by your imagination.

CLOUD STONE

MOSAIX CLOUD STONE SQUARES is a warm neutral mosaic constructed of cross cut travertine stone. Being natural stone, no two pieces are the same and the intensity of colour and pattern of the veins varies from sheet to sheet. A lovely timeless aesthetic that will inject some natural earthy qualities into any space.

UKIBORI

An exciting new collection of Japanese inspired finger mosaics with a unique triangular profile and 3D effect. Ukibori means “Relief Carving” which is a particular Japanese carving tradition that creates delicate motifs by raising small bumps in wood. Reimagined in a ceramic finger tile mosaic, these striking mosaics will add an architectural dimension to interior walls.

COLOSSEUM

New in late 2022, COLOSSEUM is a collection of natural stone half-round / bamboo flute mosaics. A striking architectural form that dates back to ancient Egypt and Greece. Colosseum’s simple curved 3D design creates a striking textural effect through the repetitive contrasts of shadows and light. A design for all eras, Colosseum is an elegant and striking mosaic for interior walls. Picked to be our hottest product for 2023.

Six natural stone colourways are available. These will require sealing witha penetrating sealer prior to installation. For interior walls only.

Three more gorgeous colours join the collection of BETON mosaics in 2023, increasing our stocked range to ten colourways. The three new colours are Cadet Blue, Laurel Green and Azure Mist.

The BETON collection of hexagonal mosaics are a super hard-wearing range of Scandinavian inspired designs made in Italy. Suitable for both floors and walls in residential and commercial interiors. They are a very versatile mosaic that adds texture and colour to any space.

Six of the designs have a smooth matt surface and four come with a mix of matt, gloss and fabric-textured finishes.

The mosaics consist of 43x38mm chips on 316x316mm sheets.

POPSICLE

Our favourite blue and green marbles are now available in an eye-catching popsicle format. Also known as Paddlepop, Feather,Eelongated Fish Scale and Arch mosaic, the POPSICLE collection is inspired by the textural layers formed by birds feathers. Pallisandro Blue and Ming Green marbles have been cut into these unique shapes to add a real interest and textural effect to interior walls.

Each colourway contains a broad range of tonal variation, which combined with the interesting popsicle pattern, creates a gorgeous feature in any space.. As they are made of natural stone, there is a huge degree of variation between each mosaic piece, each sheet and each shipment! No two pieces are the same.

GEOMETRIA

The GEOMETRIA collection is a unique collection of brick shaped marble mosaics that have had geometric designs laser etched onto the surface. The result is a unique collection for the creation of really stand out spaces.

Being natural stone there is considerable variation from piece to piece, shipment to shipment. Sometimes the natural veining will be more pronounced and the embossed surface will vary in intensity between the pieces. The beauty of this collection is both in its degree of variation as well as the unique combinaton of natural stone and etched geometric design.

Being natural stone it is recommended they be sealed prior to installation.

STICKS Mosaics, also known as Fingers or KitKat tiles, have been increasing in popularity with architects and interior designers since 2018, but actually have their origins in ancient Japanese culture and design. CEMENTINA B&W #2 has a classic floral design in a repeating pattern with a very contemporary appeal.

Cementina is a very durable collection suitable for both floors and walls. Popular throughout residential interiors, particularly kitchens, bathrooms and laundries.

TIERRA

Two new designs joined the stocked range of Tiles of Ezra X Tile Depot tiles in mid 2022.

Authentic TIERRA tiles are 100% handcrafted in Vietnam using centuries old techniques. They are characterised by a bespeckled surface that draws upon the tones and textures of earth and soil.

Available in two colours, Tierra Smoke and Tierra Nieve Punto, they add a beautiful natural charm to any interior wall.

BEJMAT

Bejmat are a particular style of rectangular glazed zellige tiles. A versatile format, they can be laid stacked, bricked herringbone or basketweave pattern. You can even get really creative and mix and match the colours.

As with all the Tiles of Ezra zellige tiles, they are all cut and shaped by hand using the purest, filtered clay. Once formed, the glaze is hand-applied to ensure a high quality, durable finish. Each tile has a rustic irregular finish that adds a unique character to any interior design. They are of variable thickness, being approximately 10mm thick.

Bejmat tiles are an stylish choice for kitchen, bathroom and laundry walls. We recommend only the unglazed clay for floors.

ZELLIGE

Tiles of Ezra work directly with skilled artisans in Morocco to create their Zellige and Bejmat tiles. Perfectly imperfect, every single part of the creation of these tiles is manufactured by hand, using traditional ancient techniques passed down through the generations. From moulding the clays of Morocco into tiles, to the glazing and even the packaging - it’s all done by hand. As such, they have a beauty that just can’t be recreated with factory produced “handmade effect” zellige.

They will have variations in thickness and size, chips and dimples in the glazing and colour variance. All expected and part of the charm of these very special tiles. A home tiled with these, exudes an atmosphere and charm that is incredibly welcoming and restful.

For those very special projects with plenty of forward planning, The Tile Depot X Tiles of Ezra can offer custom made zellige mosaics. Customers choose the design and the colours and the artisans in Morocco create the mosaic by hand. The entire process takes around 5-6 months.

Hand painted and handmade in Morocco, the Tile of Ezra tiles are authentic artisan tiles that use traditional and ancient methods. These tiles are cut, glazed and packaged entirely by hand.

They are created by genuine artisans who are incredibly passionate and proud of their craft, using methods and materials that are sustainable and have very little environmental impact. Tiles of Ezra are confident their artisans produce the best zellige tiles in Morocco & Vietnam.

Do not underestimate the rawness of this material. Rough hand cut edges, size and thickness variations with chips and impurities in the glaze is all part of the charm. The imperfection is the perfection. If its nice tidy symmetrical tiles with perfect grout lines you are after, look elsewhere!

Introducing MORE 3D, a collection of hyper-relastic porcelain stoneware that really looks and feels like natural slate stone.

Due in early 2023, there are two colourways on order: SUNSET, which is based on a combination of Indian, Brazilian and Sth African slates and NUT, which is a beautiful softer toned option for more subdued spaces.

With a real trend towards warmer tones and natural stone textures, MORE 3D is set to generate a lot of interest in the NZ market. A fantastic collection that offers the visual and tactile realism of natural stone with all the benefits of a very durable porcelain. Designed and manufactured in Italy, Golden Pure is a high-performance porcelain stoneware that has captured the preciousness of marble in the most authentic design. Its rusty golden veins inject a life and warmth into this beautiful soft grey marble that carries just a hint of aquamarine. Quite simply, it is stunning. Stocked in a lovely matt finish, suitable for interior walls and floors and just stunning laid both floor to ceiling!.

MICROCOSMI

MICROCOSMI is an exquisite collection that replicates naturally rare green marbles. With increasing demand for green tiles and bold and dramatic designs, Microcosmi is set to make a real impact. There are two designs initially availables. These are:

CALACATTA GREEN which has a dynamic green vein pattern on a white background. IRISH GREEN which replicates some of the greyer cuts of Connemara green marble, naturally endemic to Ireland’s Atlantic coast.

FRAMMENTA

The FRAMMENTA collection is the most sought after terrazzo-effect porcelain in The Tile Depot collection. An absolutely stunning porcelain interpretation of an incredibly rare, naturally occuring terrazzo stone known as Ceppo Di Gre.

As Frammenta is a porcelain tile, it is a considerably more sustainable and versatile option than the rare natural stone and can be reproduced in a range of contemporary colourways. Careful study of the natural Ceppo Di Gre has ensured that Frammenta captures the gorgeous character of the heritage stone, reproducing the grain variations with amazing authenticity.

HIMALAYA

MASHUP

MASHUP is an epic new collection due in late 2023. An elegant and realistic stone inspired porcelain that will be available in two warm, neutral colourways: Greige and Beige, and two contrasting finishes - natural and spaccato.

MASHUP DOLOMIA is a matt crosscut stone design suitable for interior floors and walls. It looks like honed limestone and has a P3 (R10) antislip rating suitable for all residential interior floors and walls.

MASHUP SPACCATO is a textured feature wall tile, reminiscent of split or rough chiseled stone. Designed for use on walls only, it adds a remarkable textural ton-sur-ton contrast to the Dolomia.

IN NERO

There is something inherently sophisticated and elegant about black marble. It adds a moody ambience and classical character reminscent of the most high-end interiors. The In NERO collection consists of two black marble designs - In Saint Laurent, a black satin marble with warm brownish veins and flushes, and In Nero Marquinia which retains some of the brownish flushes but is interspersed with constrasting white veins. Both are very striking tiles and make for stunning interior walls, fireplace surrounds and low traffic residential floors such as bathrooms.

CARRARA GOLD

Whilst the classic carrara and calactatta marble designs are always much sought after, the introduction of golden hues is taking the interior design world by storm. Injecting an elegant warmth they beautifully pair with trending brass tapware and wooden detailing and really take the carrara marble design to the next level. A glamorous aesthetic, CARRARA GOLD porcelain is available in both matt and polished finishes.

VIA MAESTRA is a gorgeous high performing stone-blend porcelain due in early 2023. A stunning collection that captures the charm and character of ancient stone. A timeless design that will suit the most contemporary of interiors.

There are four colourways coming in both interior and exterior finishes. The matt interior 600x600mm tiles form part of our Microban collection. This is where a silver based technology is integrated into the surface of the tile, offering continuous protection from bacteria.

The exterior tiles will be in the same colourways as the interior tiles but stocked in a 400x600mm format. With an R11 anti-slip surface, they will allow seamless flow of material from indoors to out.

A wide range of formats are available on indent with this collection.

CEPPO DI GRES

CEPPO DI GRES is a large format, full-bodied porcelain ordered at the Cersaie 22 Tile Fair. A stunning collection that draws upon the sophisticated charisma of the naturally occuring rare terrazzo known as Ceppo di Gre. The natural dolomitic stone is only found in the Lombardy region in Italy and is composed of broken fragments of minerals cemented together by a fine-grained matrix, affording the stone a terrazzo-like appearance. The Ceppo Di Gres porcelain re-creates this stone in a sustainable and affordable design, allowing home owners and designers to showcase this naturally rare aesthetic. Being made of porcelain also allows for colours beyond those found in the natural stone to be presented. Four colourways to be stocked at The Tile Depot from early 2023.

BRICKLANE has been a stalwart in The Tile Depot collection for several years, a porcelain stoneware that has the allure of brick with some seriously sophisticated vintage vibes. The latest woodgrain porcelain to join the Tile Depot range is CATCH. Available in four contemporary wood colourways, CATCH replicates the knots, grains and textures found in natural wood, whilst offering all the modern benefits of a stain, water and wear-resistant floor.

TERRAZZO

The Tile Depot currently has two matt porcelain terrazzo collections. The first is the TERRAZZO grey range, a popular contemporary collection available in 3 shades of grey - Light, Mid and Dark Grey. A soft and gentle, neutral terrazzo design with universal appeal for any interior space.

The other collection comprises the TERRAZZO Snow and Storm designs, which are characterised by either a white or warm grey base with a range of different chip sizes and colours. The rusty clay tones of some of the chips adds a real warmth and broadens the range of colours able to be drawn out of the tiles. A bold and dramatic design in which the tile will, in most instances, form the feature element.

2CM TERRAZZO

An exciting addition to The Tile Depot’s collection of outdoor porcelain pavers is the 2cm TERRAZZO.

These 2cm thick, antislip, rectified porcelain beauties are a fabulous expansion of our Terrazzo porcelain range and enable the use of this popular design in exterior areas.

Being 2cm thick porcelain pavers they can be installed like traditional landscape pavers onto sand or gravel, as well as onto deck jacks. They can also be adhered to solid surfaces like traditional exterior tiles. Hugely versatile and DIY friendly as long as you have a bit of muscle!
