Lindsay Leigh Kimmett
Memorial Foundation
The Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Memorial Foundation was created to perpetuate Lindsay’s legacy to the world – making a difference every day. She had accomplished so much in her short lifetime and was poised to do so much more. In the summer of 2008, Lindsay’s medical and kinesiology textbooks were delivered to Tanzania to help educate African medical students. To date, more than $250,000 has been invested into the community in Lindsay’s name. “Lindsay’s Kids” hockey sponsorships have helped young hockey players enjoy new equipment and a place on a Cochrane minor hockey team. From 2008 through 2010 Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Memorial Foundation Valedictorian Scholarships were presented to the Valedictorians of Cochrane High School, Bow Valley High School and in 2010 St. Timothy High School. In the spring of 2009 The Dr. Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Prize in Emergency Medicine, which was Lindsay’s chosen path in the field of medicine was introduced. All of these programs will carry on in perpetuity. New in 2010, was a $50,000 donation for medical equipment and teaching software at the University of Calgary Medical School. The other arm of the foundation will see direct funding of large projects. The 2008 and 2009 proceeds of the Monumental Tournament of Aces Golf Tournament saw over $160,000 donated to the third phase expansion at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Recreation Centre in the town of Cochrane where Lindsay learned to skate and suited up for several seasons of hockey and ringette. Arts & Culture Cochrane has been selected as the benefactor for the 2010 tournament. The Kimmett Cup Pond Hockey Championship brought together 20 co-ed hockey teams in 2009, and grew to 30 in 2010. The proceeds have been used to donate 6 picnic benches and 3 park benches to Mitford Park in Cochrane, the site of the event. Funding has also been directed toward Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti, and local philanthropist Martin Parnell and Marathon Quest 250.
