TimberTown only carries the highest quality hardwood species. With ten million board feet in the USA ready for delivery, we can supply the exotic hardwoods you need, when you need it. Through our partner and importer, we have a hardwood buyer who travels to Brazil each year and uses his personal relationships with our suppliers to ensure that we only buy from mills that follow responsible and legal harvesting practices. We also dictate how our suppliers package and ship by inspecting each container before and after arrival. TimberTown currently stocks Ipe, Tigerwood, Garapa, Cumaru, and White Oak. One of the advantages of working with us is we offer custom milling for our hardwoods and select softwoods. From the walls to the ceiling, we have a milling profile just right for your project.
Laguna Loma Lakehouse Ipe DeckingIpe (EE-pay) is an incredibly durable Brazilian Hardwood, and is rated by the US Forest Lab for 25 years plus, which is the highest rating they offer. This hardwood is perfect for exterior commercial and residential applications such as decks, docks, siding, or exterior furniture. From Dinner Key Marina in Miami to the Coney Island Boardwalk in New York City, Ipe has proven durability. It can be sealed to maintain its natural beauty or weather to a beautiful silver gray.
Ipe resists surface checking, and is naturally resistant to molds and UV rays - which are the two most destructive forces to decks and other exterior projects. When compared to other decking materials such as redwood, cedar, or pressure treated materials, Ipe lasts longer and is naturally more resistant to fire, weather, insects, moisture and movement. If you compare the one time cost of Ipe to the 3-5 times you need to replace other materials over the lifespan of Ipe, the value of this tropical hardwood becomes clear!
1010 West 10th Custom Milled Garapa SidingHailing from South America, Garapa has a light color that’s light on the wallet too. It’s one of the only light-colored hardwoods with excellent exterior durability that’s commercially available. Garapa may not have the hardness of an Ipe or Cumaru, but what it lacks in density this product makes up for in consistency, beauty, and affordability. The most common application for Garapa is exterior decking and siding.
255 Ottley Rooftop Decks Tigerwood Decking and Cedar SidingWant a hardwood that lives up to the name exotic? Look no further than the bold and elegant striping of Tigerwood. Like its namesake, Tigerwood combines beauty and strength in one elegant hardwood. Commonly used for decking and siding, this wood has superb stiffness, strength, hardness, and durability. However, density and other mechanical properties can vary widely depending on the growing site and source region. The name “Jobillo” is sometimes used to refer to higher grades of Goncalo Alves among wood turners.
Often overlooked by those seeking the more popular exotic hardwoods - like Ipe and Tigerwood - Cumaru is an excellent alternative to pricier hardwood products. Harvested primarily in Brazil, most Cumaru has the reddish brown look of Ipe (the most popular Brazilian hardwood) with a similar density and durability. Cumaru can also come with streaks of yellowish brown, which is sometimes sold under the trade name “Brazilian Teak”. However, Cumaru is not related to true Teak (Tectona grandis).
Cumaru is also called by the name Tonka Bean, and the tree is commonly cultivated for its vanilla-cinnamon scented seed—the tonka bean—which contains a chemical compound called coumarin. Coumarin has been used in perfumes since 1820, and gives Cumaru its aroma. Cumaru lumber is extremely strong and hard, lending itself well to a variety of applications. The heartwood also fluoresces under a black light, which can help distinguish it from Ipe.
Don’t let the name fool you, softwoods aren’t always soft. They get their name because they come from conifers not because they’re weak. They’ve been used for centuries and they’re versatile enough to handle everything from decking to siding and soffits. If you’re looking to add beauty that is easy to work with, softwoods are hard to beat.
Grown and milled in the northwestern United States and Canada, Cedar is a high quality softwood at an affordable price. The most popular in the softwood category, Cedar is naturally weather, insect, and decay resistant, making it easy to maintain. At the same time, it’s also easy to install and comes in a variety of dimensions. With a yellowish-brown hue and natural ability to hold stains and paint well, Cedar is a superb choice for any project. We stock the highest quality appearance grade cedar as well as small tight knot (STK), Clear mixed grain (CMG) and clear vertical grain (CVG) to really put your project over the top.
Allatoona Farmhouse Custom Cypress Soffits, Ceiling, and ShuttersAlthough Cypress is a softwood, it grows alongside hardwoods and is traditionally grouped and manufactured with hardwoods, making it an excellent exterior siding or soffit option. Cypress trees look like evergreens with their small needle-like leaves and round cones, but they are deciduous, meaning they lose their leaves in the fall. Cyprees trees often grow in swamplands and marshes, leaving the lower trunks and roots completely submerged. Cypress tree use has been documented since the beginning of recorded time. Native Americans used Cypress to craft canoes for transportation across swamps and wetlands. TimberTown stocks both Select Cypress and #2 Cypress. By choosing our Select Cypress, which is the clearest grade, you can ensure your project is a cut above the rest!
White Pine is one of the most commonly used timber products for construction and lumber in the United States. White Pine has a straight grain and its color can be expected to darken with age. It’s a beautiful piece of timber on its own but can also be stained with a wide variety of finishes. Used mostly for soffits, ceilings, and accent walls - White Pine is an excellent option when you will be painting or staining the boards. TimberTown only stocks the highest grade White Pine so you can be confident you are using a premium product.
Double Heart Ranch Douglas Fir Beams & Cedar SidingDouglas Fir (aka Architectural Fir) is one of North America’s most plentiful softwood species, accounting for one fifth of the continent’s total softwood reserves. Best known for its toughness, density and excellent fire ratings, Douglas Fir can be used for beams or milled for other applications. This strength makes it particularly resistant to damage and abrasions, which is perfect when it comes to exterior use. Douglas Fir is also waterresistant, which helps protect it from harsh weather conditions that prematurely damage and age other variations of timber. The great part about this species is it can be easily stained to match the exact look you want or leave with its natural, consistent blonde color. Whether using Douglas Fir inside or outside, beams or boards - we have the size, cut, and style you need for your project.
Slatted Beach Retreat Custom Milled Alaskan Yellow Cedar SidingAlaskan Yellow Cedar (AYC) is a mostly unknown and definitely under-appreciated material that is an excellent choice for many construction applications. AYC (Cupressus Nootkatensis) is technically not a Cedar but a Cypress. AYC is responsibly harvested and is listed as a species of least concern by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
AYC like Western Red Cedar (WRC), is native to the Upper Northwest ranging from Alaska to Northern California with the exception that AYC is only found along coastal forests. AYC has many of the same characteristics of WRC while actually being superior in terms of strength, dimensional stability, durability and a natural resistance to decay and insects. This makes it an extraordinary option for exterior and interior sidings, soffits, and trim. Also, since the tree is so large it is possible to find applications for heavy timbers for large outdoor structures like Pergolas, Arbors and Gazebos. AYC is gorgeous! It’s luxurious and consistent golden yellow color and straight grain that easily takes a finish makes it a stunning choice when strength and beauty are important. This is an extremely durable and versatile wood that is suitable for a wide range of applications. We have Clear AYC in stock ready to mill to any profile.
TimberTown offers a wide variety of Modified Timber Products. We stock Kebony, Thermory, Accoya, Parklex Prodema, Rainier Plank, DassoXTR and Trespa. These products are only recently gaining momentum in the US. These manufacturers are now successfully modifying Softwood species to match the characteristics of Tropical Hardwoods without the strain on the enviroment. The modification process changes the cell structure and removes the cellulose and other organic compounds, which is basically eliminating food for fungus and insects. This also stabalizes the cell structure to greatly reduce the woods’ ability to absorb and retain water. The end result is a hardwood product stable and durable enough for outdoor applications. We are now able to use sustainably managed Softwoods and ‘modify’ them in a fashion that they attain the same attributes of Hardwoods and can easily last 25-50 years in just about any enviroment. The green process is the ‘when not if solution’ to building structures outdoors.
Orchards at Pecan Acres Kebony Character CladdingKebony is a sustainable alternative to exotic hardwoods when beauty and performance are essential. Using pressure, vacuum and heat treatment, the liquid is tied together with the cell structure of the wood in order to permanently improve the woods characteristics.
TimberTown offers both Kebony Clear and Kebony Character.
Kebony Clear products are produced from FSC® certified Radiata Pine modified with a bio-based liquid. The patented Kebony technology alters the wood cell structure to give a unique wood product with outstanding durability and no maintenance needs beyond normal cleaning. Kebony Clear products have a primarily clear front surface and are treated through the board.
Kebony Clear cladding is a perfect fit for residential and commercial siding applications. The uniform color will naturally patina over time, like Brazilian hardwoods without the instability and inconsistent color or grain. Our cladding also comes with a 30 year rot warranty, ensuring the beauty of your best projects for decades to come.
Thermory is the union of science and design, and their scientists are just beginning. They are constantly evolving processes and equipment to make thermally modified wood better. Decking, cladding and porch flooring with unequalled longevity and lasting natural beauty. Thermory boards are a stunning combination of natural beauty and enhanced function. There are no chemicals or plastics used in the process, just heat and steam. It takes minimal energy as the process only takes a couple of days, versus kiln-drying which can take several weeks. The results of their innovative process are products that are highly rot resistant without sacrificing strength or pliability. Products with extraordinary longevity and rich, beautiful color.
Steinhardt Musuem of Natural History Parklex Prodema Rustik CladdingPARKLEX PRODEMA’s High Pressure Laminate (HPL) panels are made from real wood sourced from sustainably managed, FSC certified forests. What makes their panels unique is the components they use to treat wood and the overlays that they put on top. These treatments guarantee the durability of their products and mean they are maintenancefree. Each panel consits of a high density bakelite core, clad in a veneer of natural wood. The surface is treated with synthetic resin and an exterior PVDF film. This resistant PVDF film protects PARKLEX PRODEMA panels from all weather conditions, creating a product that is totally maintenance free. The PVDF exterior is also anti-graffiti and non stick, which protects the panel from organic matter and reduces the buildup of dust and dirt from air pollution.
