Static Electricity on Capped Decking

Description

Static: Dry or windy environments may create a temporary condition of static electricity, which will vary depending on climate and site conditions.

Recommended Treatment

In the case of excessive static buildup on an installed PVC or HDPE capped deck, Fiberon recommends the following procedure:

Product Description ACL Heavy Duty Staticide® 2002/2005

• • • •

Remove loose debris from the deck surface. ACL Heavy Duty Staticide® 2002/2005 (shown at left) Spray or mop the entire surface of the deck. Allow to air dry. Do not attempt to wipe the surface dry as wiping will reduce the effectiveness of the anti-static coating.

Additional product information concerning ACL Staticide® can be found at: http://aclstaticide.com/heavy_duty_staticide.html

Results

In the test pictured below, an effective measuring device, the ACL-350 Digital Static Locator was used to measure a deck board indicating a 7.0 volts charge. After applying ACL Heavy Duty Staticide®, the area was measured again producing a 0.4 volt reading.
