Mid-placement review & tutor visit • Self-assessment review carried out by the student part of the way through the placement. • This should take place just before the tutor visit. • Student self-assesses against criteria set out in the Learning Contract. • This visit is your chance to address any issues with your tutor • Prepare and reflect on the placement experience in general, and any small issues in particular, before seeing your tutor
Final Comments • Student and supervisor have opportunity to comment on the placement experience on the last day in the workplace. • Tutor awards grade based on visit and final comments from both student and supervisor.

Along with workplace grade awarded by your tutor, this constitutes 70% of your placement module. 2500 words discussing your placement experience. a broad picture of the organisation, its historical development, present position and planned future strategies. understanding of environmental factors that affect the organisation, in areas such as political, economic, social and technological influences. an evaluation of how the communication/publishing professional fits into the organisation and how your role fitted in.
Presentation
• This constitutes 30% of your placement module grade. • 10 minute oral presentation on an aspect of the organisation or your work experience. • NOT an oral version of your report.
Essential Health and Safety Risk Assessment - Why is it important? • Risk assessment is integral in every modern legislation but why? – Prevention is better than cure • Identify the hazards (and controls measures required) faced in the workplace on paper. • Identify those procedures which are just too dangerous.
So what are the risks in an office/studio/“print shop” environment? • • • • • • •
Slips, trips and falls Using display screen equipment Electrical safety Manual handling Harmful substances Over use of computers Out and about
Your H&S responsibilities: You as an employee have legal duties: • • • • •

Behave appropriately at all times – you are an ambassador for Aberdeen Business School. Report for work punctually don’t take time off unless absolutely necessary. Complete your University assessment requirements including preparing for tutor visits. DO NOT misuse e-mail or internet – this is gross misconduct and you may be subject to immediate dismissal. • DO NOT use company time to text or make personal calls. • Communicate effectively.
How to make your placement successful • • • • • •
Work hard! Don’t expect to be running the company from day one! Show initiative, find things to do, be proactive. If you are unsure, ask questions. Keep the ‘bigger picture’ in mind. Keep in touch with your Placement Tutor – if there is a problem let him/her know.
