BACKSTREET COMMUNITY ARTS

Free to all clients, Backstreet Community Arts is an open art studio focusing on the benefits art has on mental health.

“Backstreet is an inclusive makerspace,” says Founder/Director Kim Ramey.

The nonprofit’s mission statement is: “We exist to provide a safe, welcoming, creative environment for anyone who can benefit from the healing power of art and community.”

That includes everyone.

Its vision statement: “Everyone should have free unlimited access to the healing power of art.”

Again, that means everyone, regardless of income or social status.

Nestled on the edge of downtown Newnan, on First Avenue behind Bridging the Gap, Backstreet offers formal classes and an open art studio. All supplies and instruction are provided at no cost to participants.

The large variety of arts offered at Backstreet includes painting, writing, sewing, fiber arts, leather working, metalworking, ukulele and much more. Many of the volunteer instructors at Backstreet are professional artists who donate their time to sharing their love for creating art with others.

Last year alone, Backstreet had more than 3,200 visits from people seeking respite and recovery through art.

“Making art has helped me sort through my emotions in the darkest times of my life,” says Ramey. “I cannot imagine life without it, and I believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience creating art in many forms, whether they can afford it or not or know how to begin. Throughout my life, artists have encouraged me in my art making, and I hope I can do the same for others. For me, art is a vital part of living.”

CHILDRESS DENTAL CENTER

Childress Dental Center opened its first office, in LaGrange, in 1991 with Dr. George Childress at the helm. Today, six dentists – each with their own specialty – serve patients at the LaGrange office and an office in Hogansville as well.

The Hogansville office opened in 2017 in a renovated historic home that’s over 100 years old.

“We preserved historical features of the home while turning it into a state-of-the-art dental practice,” says owner Meredith Gardner.

Childress Dental Center provides services ranging from implant surgeries, extractions, partials, dentures, crowns, cosmetic work, fillings and, of course, cleaning and routine checkups. Their fullservice operation caters to both children and adults.

“We help patients manage periodontal disease, and we don’t hold back on technology,” says Gardner. “We have digital x-rays which use less radiation, and we’re able to see bones in 3-D imaging to help us preplan for implants. We offer IV sedation for pain relief, and we invest a lot in our staff, which is why we have the best dental staff around, no doubt about it.”

That investment includes training doctors and

technicians to stay up to date on all the latest trends in dentistry, according to Gardner, who says, “We’re in a small town, but that’s never stopped us from using the best materials and techniques and staying on top of all the new developments.”

Dentists at Childress range in age from 20s to 70s, so there’s a doctor in every decade with various perspectives to meet the needs of patients. Doctors work at both dental offices and review cases together when necessary so that, according to Gardner, “you’re not just getting one dentist here; you’re getting a whole team. You can reach us if you need us, and we want to make you feel like family; that’s how we run our practice.”

The Hogansville and LaGrange locations pull in patients from Troup, Meriwether, Coweta and Heard counties as well as Alabama, and Childress Dental Center is active in supporting the communities it serves.

“We’re in the community and sponsor just about everything because we believe in our community,” says Gardner. “We’ve made a big impact in the community already.”

Lee-King Pharmacy opened in 1906 on the Court Square in Newnan. Today, owned and operated by Mindy Leech, it’s in its fourth generation of Newnan ownership.

Offering a customized experience for all their customers, Lee-King Pharmacy takes pride in the fact that its services are all homespun.

“We answer the phone, greet you with a smile and make sure you don’t have to wait for your medications,” says Leech. “On behalf of our patients, we foster and keep great relationships with the area’s doctors. Unlike national chain pharmacies, we have a vested interest in taking care of our patients because they’re members of our community.”

Lee-King offers free deliveries, provides vaccinations with no wait time, has competitive pricing, and accepts all insurance plans. Their full-service gift shop offers special gifts for any occasion. In February 2024, Lee-

King Pharmacy opened Lee-King Wellness, an onsite health clinic.

“As a pharmacy owner, I’d noticed our customers were not always able to get the medical care they needed,” Leech says. “Since Covid, some people have had a hard time getting in to see a doctor. We opened Lee-King Wellness to give the community another option to see a provider on short notice.”

Lee-King Wellness offers urgent care visits, IV hydration cocktails, sports physicals and medical weight loss services. They provide evaluations for medical cannabis cards so patients who can benefit from legalized medical cannabis have access to it.

“Our goal is for people to have a provider’s office experience here that leaves them feeling well cared for, heard and treated with respect,” says Leech. “We’re committed to providing excellent patient care and exceptional customer service.”

LEE-GOODRUM HEALTH

The goal of Lee-Goodrum Health is to offer exceeding care and give back to its amazing community.

Based in Newnan, Lee-Goodrum Health started as a simple idea to add a small clinic inside Lee-Goodrum Pharmacy. Today, there are two stand-alone locations.

Casey and Alison Tarpley, owners of Lee-Goodrum Pharmacy, joined forces with the perfect provider in Marlo Smith and her husband Casey Smith and opened Lee-Goodrum Health on July 1, 2022, in a single room inside the pharmacy with two employees, Marlo and Alison. Marlo saw and treated patients for weight loss and medical visits, and Alison made appointments and took care of finances.

After operating in the pharmacy for eight months, Lee-Goodrum Health moved to a new, larger location off Greison Trail. Here, they grew to a fully functioning doctor’s office with four rooms and office space to

maintain nine full-time employees and an additional full-time provider.

The weight loss program and primary care services of the clinic grew exceedingly, and it was time to expand again. The Tarpleys and Smiths purchased a building that, ironically, sits right down the road from the original location of Lee-Goodrum Pharmacy.

The new location at 14 Hospital Road opened in September with six patient rooms, a lab room, and plenty of office space plus room to grow.

At the new location, Lee-Goodrum Health provides primary care and women’s health as an outlet for gynecology services, while the Greison Trail clinic focuses on weight loss and urgent care.

To witness the growth and love that Lee-Goodrum Health has received through the past two years was more than Marlo, Alison, Casey and Casey could have imagined, and they remain excited at the clinic’s continuous growth. 770 Greison Trail, Suite F, Newnan | 14 Hospital Road, Newnan 770-400-5660 | leegoodrum.com/lee-goodrum-health

LEE-GOODRUM PHARMACY

John Goodrum Jr. and Bobby Lee opened LeeGoodrum Pharmacy in 1984 with one thing in mind: providing excellent service for the Newnan community.

Thirty years later, Casey and Alison Tarpley continue this storied business with the same commitment to excellent service.

After purchasing the business from Goodrum and Lee in 2020, the Tarpleys have had quite the ride, from maneuvering their business through a global pandemic to being named Best Pharmacy in the Newnan-Coweta Magazine Best of Coweta Readers’ Choice Awards four years straight.

Throughout, the goal has remained the same – to

offer the best service and best healthcare to the people of Coweta.

The pharmacy has expanded its services many times over the years and now offers immunizations, a large selection of gifts, and free delivery to all of Coweta.

As healthcare continuously evolves, Lee-Goodrum Pharmacy plans to evolve as well. With the addition of Lee-Goodrum Health in 2022, the Lee-Goodrum name has become synonymous with great healthcare.

“We expect things will only get better from here,” the Tarpleys said.

NEWNAN NATURAL PAIN RELIEF AND WELLNESS

Trusted by professional athletes, medical legal teams, hospitals and families for more than 30 years, Newnan Natural Pain Relief and Wellness provides individualized treatment to identify the reason for pain or dysfunction in order to remedy it. “We believe everything starts with caring, taking the time to listen, and hearing you,” says Dr. Craig Steingraber, owner of the dynamic practice that he operates with his son, Dr. Cole Steingraber. “Your medical history is the most important component of your evaluation. We take the time to ask questions, listen and integrate your history to determine various courses of care.”

Whether due to genetics, traumatic events or day-to-day wear and tear, all pain and symptoms occur due to dysfunction of the three main body

systems –structural, neurological and metabolic, according to Dr. Craig, who says evaluation of these three systems enables his office to more complete in your evaluation and therefore provide a personal template of natural health care suggestions to improve how his patients feel and function.

“Dr. Craig takes time to listen to your ailments and put you on the path to recovery,” says one satisfied patient. “He takes time to explain in detail the things that are going on inside your body and why your body does what it does. And, he and his staff are all very professional and flexible with my schedule. I always look forward to seeing them.”

Consultations are free, and opportunities to lead a more functional life are possible.

Father and son duo Craig Steingraber, DC, right, and Cole Steingraber, DC, provide a path toward pain relief and improved function of all three main body systems.

TEMPLATE FOR TRUE HEALTH TEMPLATE FOR TRUE HEALTH

“I had been struggling with dizziness, tremors, insomnia for months and had been to at least 5 di erent specialists with no improvement, I couldn’t even bend down to tie my own shoes without getting dizzy. My neurologist referred me to Dr. Craig’s o ce and I finally got the help I needed. Dr. Craig took the time to listen to me and formulate a personal drug-free treatment plan that worked!”

“Dr. Craig Steingraber and his practice are great. He does a lot more than just back issues. They care about how you are feeling and their main goal is to help you feel better and most importantly they try to help you do it holistically.”

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Being proactive with consistent evaluations, enhancements and maintenance of these three main body systems better ensures a more symptom free and functional life. Waiting for a symptom does not.

PEACHSTATE ADVANCED CARDIAC AND ENDOVASCULAR

Peachstate Advanced Cardiac and Endovascular (PACE) is excited to announce its new state-of-theart Arienta Spotlight Duo CT Scanner.

Their board-certified interventional and vascular cardiologist Dr. Oghenerukevwe Odiete and his team want the best for their patients, which is why they are the first facility in Georgia to have this amazing scanner. The specialized CT machine is the first dedicated cardiovascular scanner in the world, and it’s in Newnan, Georgia!

Only a few of these high-powered scanners are utilized in the United States. The technologically advanced machine is specifically designed to scan the moving heart and its coronary arteries, which gives a noninvasive option for coronary care. With a scan rotation speed of 0.24 seconds, it captures an amazing frozen image of the heart. Even patients with Afib and irregular heart rates can be scanned, which is not always possible on other CT scanners. PACE’s CT technologist is an ARRT-certified technologist with an additional cardiac certification

from the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography.

At PACE, CT calcium score scans are offered to measure the amount of calcium buildup in the arteries. This test helps prevent heart attacks by evaluating blocked arteries. This quick and noninvasive scan is offered for a nominal price, and a doctor’s order is not necessary.

The staff at PACE stays up-to-date on the latest medical knowledge and believes that early detection of peripheral artery disease and treatment is vitally important.

“We encourage proactive evaluation and screening, as well as minimally invasive and non-surgical care options,” says Dr. Odiete. “Early detection of cardiovascular and vascular disease means more effective treatments and a lower risk of potential complications.”

Peachstate Advanced Cardiac and Endovascular has six locations and a goal to prevent amputations and improve heart health.

PEACHTREE CITY ACUPUNCTURE

Barbara B. of Newnan described her worsening pain: “It was like being stabbed by an icepick, excruciating electric shocks going down my leg, and living in fear that any quick movement would have my back cramping up and I could be stuck on the floor in agony for hours.”

Even after multiple injections at the pain doctor’s office, Barbara was suffering. Her husband Doug was recovering from prostate cancer, and she was scared she wouldn’t be there for him.

“It was a dark time, and I didn’t see how I was going to get out of pain,” she admits.

Her daughter-in-law Sarah knew there had to be a solution: “I hated to see my vibrant mother-in-law unable to do what she loved, walking, pickleball; even playing with the grandkids had become taxing. I had a friend who had great results with Peachtree City Acupuncture, so I made her an appointment.”

Barbara and Sarah arrived for their initial

consultation. After Dr. Harris Frank listened to their story, he offered concrete solutions with compassion, and Barbara felt hope return for the first time. She was religious about her plan of care, coming to every appointment and monitoring her own progress with short walks around the block.

“I could tell she was improving, and then halfway through her plan of care, I saw her on the floor with my girls, playing dress up,” Sarah recalls. “My eyes filled with tears. I knew she was back.”

Peachtree City Acupuncture, led by the husbandwife team of Drs. Harris and Mara Frank, seamlessly blend the time-tested science of acupuncture with more innovative, medical solutions to achieve measurable, long-lasting results. Their clinic adopts personalized care plans that address the unique needs and symptoms of each patient in order to achieve optimal outcomes for all patients.

TRUE BALANCE OF NEWNAN

True Balance Center for Breath and Bodywork was founded in 2019 as a local wellness oasis to bring holistic therapies to the community. Located in downtown Newnan, True Balance is a haven for those seeking healing, balance and inner peace.

Their team of practitioners includes several massage therapists, an acupuncturist and biomagnetic pair therapist, yoga instructors and a sound therapist.

“My vision of a center that offers and educates the community about different holistic therapies provided by passionate, well trained, local professionals has become a reality,” says Ute Anonsen, owner and founder of True Balance.

Their wide array of services includes the soothing yet profound touch of massage therapy, tailored to address individual needs and restore balance to body and mind. Skilled therapists specialize in modalities ranging from Swedish and deep tissue techniques to prenatal massage, manual lymphatic drainage, reflexology and more to provide relief from tension and promote overall relaxation.

Alternative healing modalities at True Balance

include acupuncture to restore balance to the body’s energy channels and unlock the flow of energy (or qi, pronounced /CHē/) within the body.

Additional innovative approaches to healing include biomagnetic pair therapy, which involves scanning the body with magnets to detect distortions in the pH caused by injury, infection/illness, disruption of normal microbiome, emotions and genetic factors.

Reiki harmonizes the body’s subtle energy systems, promoting a sense of wholeness and wellbeing. Clients may immerse themselves in the transformative power of breathwork, where ancient techniques guide clients to harness the healing potential of their breath.

For the mind-body connection, yoga and sound therapy sessions open a pathway for self-discovery, inner peace and deep relaxation. Guided by experienced instructors, these practices offer gentle ways to cultivate mindfulness and reduce stress.

Whether it’s relief from physical discomfort, stress reduction, or simply a space to nurture the soul, True Balance will support you on your journey.

The True Balance staff includes, from left, seated on couch, Katie Thaxton, Rebecca Helfers, Allyson Lange-Sost and Ute Anonsen. Standing: Amanda Pieper, Rebekah Greene, Emily Bryson, Susie Cuebas and Slade Anonsen. On floor: Bailey Oliveira and Christina Revelle.

WHAT IS LOW LEVEL LASER THERAPY (LLLT)?

Introduced in the 1960’s, LLLT is a treatment using violet-green-red light to produce energy for healing and improved function. LLLT is also known as cold laser, not because it is cold but because it does not produce heat. That is one reason why it is so safe.

Light properties from the sun creates a metabolic reaction in our bodies to produce Vitamin D.
