2019 CLASSIC BOAT FESTIVAL
Welcome to the Festival! BILL NOON, Festival Chair
T
hank you for joining us at this year’s 42nd Annual Classic Boat Festival.
This year’s theme is ‘Mishaps & Misadventures’. As you walk the docks and observe our historic fleet and ponder all the boats, rest assured, they all carry with them stories of adventures. They have survived storms, breakdowns, failures and many “misadventures”. Ours are stories of mostly happy endings. This is in part due to the culture of going to sea and working on boats, in which all of us will unquestioningly answer the need to help each other out in difficulty. I would like to thank all the boat owners, the crews and the talented trades on this coast that keep these boats coming back year after year, all of which seem to grow better with age.
DAVID LEVERTON, Executive Director, Maritime Museum of BC
O
n behalf Maritime Museum of BC, welcome to the 42nd annual Victoria Classic Boat Festival.
I encourage visitors to take the time to stop by, speak to the owners, and learn more about the stories behind each boat. This year’s theme for the festival is ‘Mishaps and Misadventures’. Many of the classic boats plying our waters have seen their fair share of mishaps and misadventures. We look forward to hearing stories about some of the funniest and most harrowing moments of life at sea. I would like to extend a special thanks to our dedicated team of professional staff and volunteers who are responsible for overseeing all of the planning details for hosting this great event.

elcome to the 42nd annual Victoria Classic Boat Festival in our beautiful Inner Harbour! It is our privilege to once again be the presenting sponsor of this special event!
The Festival theme this year is ‘Mishaps and Misadventures’ so a facility like Canoe Cove Marina fits right in! We have been mooring, hauling and servicing all kinds of vessels at this location for over a century and have seen just about everything there is to see! Our unique marine village is home to nineteen different companies employing over 125 skilled tradespeople, operating year-round. If you haven’t visited us yet, please feel free to drop by! So, thanks for joining us! We are glad you are here to enjoy one of the great maritime festivals on the west coast.

W
elcome to Victoria Harbour! It’s a pleasure to see so many hand-crafted, custom-built vessels in our beautiful Inner Harbour. Greater Victoria Harbour Authority is excited to welcome them into our marinas. The hard work and dedication required to maintain a classic vessel or create a new, future classic from the keel up means that each of the boats arriving into our harbour is filled with stories to share. To the visiting boaters, welcome and thank you for all that you do to keep our marine heritage alive. To the visiting public, make sure to tour the vessels and talk to the captains on hand about their beautiful boats.
Enjoy the Festival!

Stories of Mishaps and Misadventures
B
.C. maritime history includes many stories of mishaps and misadventures. Each vessel carries its own stories of circumstances that went wrong, either out at sea or even in dock. Some stories are harrowing, others are funny, and many fall in between. To read some of these stories, hand selected by staff and volunteers at the Maritime Museum of BC, please visit classicboatfestival.ca.
