Boost your confidence by looking your best

ife has been a fun, adventurous ride for Ink Bar Cosmetic Tattoo creator/ founder Julianna (Jules) Raeburn and her journey into the world of beauty – and specifically, to her flagship location of Ink Bar in Colwood – has definitely been via the path less followed.

After graduating high school in the ’80s, Jules followed her passion for music (as a fan – not an artist), jumping right into the business quickly finding herself working with legends like k.d. lang, Sarah McLachlan and Pink in cities like Vancouver, Toronto and NYC.

Managing the press and fans for these artists at events like the Junos and Grammys allowed her to see firsthand just how much image can boost or break confidence.

When a massive merger suddenly left her jobless in NYC, Jules seamlessly pivoted into hairstyling, studying with the best of the best – namely Nick Arrojo and Ted Gibson of TLC’s “What Not to Wear” – at the Aveda Institute in Soho.

After six more years working in the funnest, most empowering salon in NYC (Swank – owned by fellow Canuck Kasha Ferran), Julianna returned to Vancouver, picking up where she left off, cutting/colouring the manes of Sarah McLachlan and Gabe Miller (Corner Gas) among many others before moving to the Island with her husband and daughter in 2017.

After stints at Design House and Wiink salons, Jules was introduced to the world of

cosmetic tattooing while on a video call with her formerly bald Scottish brother-in-law who proudly showcased his fresh “new” hairline, created with some strategically placed tattoo dots over a three-session service called Scalp Micro-Pigmentation (SMP).

Again, the universe reminded her not just how important confidence is, but that with the magic of modern technology and a steady hand, that we can “create” features and looks where they may not naturally exist, helping people be their shiny best. In just six short months, Ink Bar has become the go-to spot for cosmetic tattooing in the Westshore and with the addition of a crackerjack team, has already
