Coachman park BayCare Ballpark
A tradition 43 years in the making!
The Clearwater Jazz Holiday famously started small – as a series of concerts on the back of a flatbed truck and at venues around Clearwater – and morphed into an annual, international music festival that draws tens of thousands of visitors each year to beautiful Coachman Park in Clearwater, against the backdrop of the Gulf of Mexico, and one of the world’s most stunning beaches. AND, while its waterfront venue is getting a head-to-toe makeover, the Clearwater Jazz Holiday and City of Clearwater have teamed up with the Clearwater Threshers to present a one of a kind special presentation at BayCare Ballpark, just west of US Hwy 19. But truly: what defines Clearwater Jazz Holiday is not its location – it’s the incredibly talented artists who perform here and the thousands of people who flock to the event to groove on that amazing, live music.

The Clearwater Jazz Holiday music festival may be known for its widespread attendance in the Bay area each October, but the fun doesn’t stop after the festival’s final song. In fact, the popular event has a significant and sustained musical, cultural and economic impact that reaches into the Clearwater community and beyond all year-round.
Behind the beloved music tradition, now in its 43rd year, is the nonprofit organization the Clearwater Jazz Holiday Foundation, which produces the annual festival. The community’s attendance at and support of the Clearwater Jazz Holiday and similar events make the organization’s
work throughout the year in jazz education and outreach possible.
“The cultural impact can be felt throughout the entire year,” said Steve Weinberger, Clearwater Jazz Holiday Foundation CEO.
Let the music play on Justin-Lee Schultz will play at the Clearwater Jazz Holiday on Saturday, Oct. 15.
“The Clearwater Jazz Holiday Foundation fulfills its mission of being a leading proponent of jazz education by celebrating and promoting the art form, and it does that through innovative music appreciation and instructional programs, online resources, unique performance opportunities, special funding, and creative learning experiences that are all supported by the longtime annual festival tradition and
other events,” Weinberger said.
Some of the organization’s most popular year-round offerings include its outreach programs like History of Jazz and My Journey with Jazz. The former invites professional musicians into schools and other local groups, where they’re able to put on interactive musical performances and present the history of jazz to students and other members of the community. The latter is a music mentorship program
geared towards local students in underserved communities.
My Journey with Jazz connects these students with musicians and mentors in a game-type format, educating them about the legendary musicians and eras of jazz along the way, all culminating in students’ final presentations of what they’ve learned.
“Students are rarely exposed to the type and quality of this

Case in point: At this year’s Clearwater Jazz Holiday festival, two of the opening acts, Justin-Lee Schultz on Saturday, Oct. 15 and Champ Jaxon on Sunday, Oct. 16, are under the age of 16.

particular outreach that not only educates but inspires musicianship and provides a special appreciation for jazz,” Weinberger said about the programs.
For students who are already interested in jazz and are inspired to play, the Clearwater Jazz Holiday Foundation offers instructional programs that help them elevate their skills and make meaningful connections. The organization
and offerings include the Young Lions Jazz Master Sessions, instrument donations and lessons, the Build-a-Guitar program, scholarships for high school seniors, the Stop-Time Series with Frank Williams, the Wanderlust Music Series and more.
“I’d (like) to wholeheartedly thank the community for helping to support and lift up this tradition over the years. Just know that when you attend the Clearwater Jazz Holiday, you’re supporting meaningful year-round education and outreach in our community,” said Weinberger.
