Here Wes tells us about his photography career:
Ifirst picked up acamera when Iwas 17 years old, and realised at the age of 22 that Ijust absolutely loved takingpictures. Ive always been creative, having studied Art while at school, an HND in Photography while at college, and I definitelyprefertodesign and make something myself rather than to buyit.
But photography is my real passion. There is something very special about witnessing something amazing whether its an emotional moment at awedding, aspectacular landscape under adramatic skyline, or the grace and beauty of adancermid-leap and being able to capture it in asingle frame.
Ihave spent the last 20 years working as a professional photographer and Ican honestly say it was thebest career choice Icould have made.
Irecently celebrated my 10th anniversary of running my own photography business from my home in Leek, Staffordshire, whichisan achievement Iamreally proud of.
Before IcreatedWes WebsterPhotography, I worked as aphotojournalist, capturing news and sport throughout the West Midlands region. I was lucky enough to win an award as the Best News Photographer in the Midlands during my time in the newspaper industry. My imagesof Stoke City FC celebrating agoal, amurder scene in Stoke-on-Trent and the viral story about the smoking ban not initially being legal locally helped me to receive this gong. Since then, Ihave beenable to focus on what Idobesthelping people to create everlasting memories from special moments; showcasing local and national businesses and organisations through my commercial and PR work; and capturing the beautiful landscapesand scenery that Iamsolucky to have on my doorstep.
It has been areally rewarding journey so far, and Ifeelhonoured to have worked with some incredibly inspiring people.
My photography has taken me to places outside Staffordshire too, with apinnacle moment for me being given the opportunity to work at St Pauls Cathedral in London.
Ive also been asked to photograph some very high profile events, asthe galleries on my website can show.
Ive met and photographed many celebrities including Kylie Minogue, Rod Stewart, Mick Hucknall and Cannon and Ball to name afew. And Im also the lead photographer for a leading national theatre company.
But as much as Ienjoy working up and down the UK,mypassion for photography has been heavily influenced by the people Ive met in the Staffordshire area, and by the stunning scenery nearby, and Istill love to return to the place where I now call home.
