MAYOR OF NEWCASTLE Ordinary chap is elected to civic role
The new Mayo rof Newcastleunder-Lyme for 2021-22 has been electedas councillor

Ken Owen.
He received the nomination and won the vote at the councils May Full Council meeting.
Ken has beenelected as aborough councillor twice, first from 2014-18 and he was then re-elected in 2019. He is ward councillor for Holditch and Chesterton and is amember of the Newcastle Independent Group.
Ken said: I cant quite believe that Im actually going to be the Mayor and am really touched by the thought. Im an ordinary chap who became a councillor to do the best Ican forthe area I live in, which is Holditchand Chesterton, and Iwill do the same as Mayor.
He added: I am passionate about North Staffordshire, Ive lived in Newcastle for51 years and Ilove the place. Icant think of a bigger honour than being the Mayor of Newcastle-under-Lyme.
Ken stated that he is set to support the TriServices and Veteran Support Centre, based in Hassall Street, and the Royal British Legion in North Staffordshire during his year of office.
The DeputyMayor waselected as Gill Burnett who is the ward councillor for Kidsgrove and Ravenscliffe.
The MayoressofNewcastle-under-Lyme is Rachel Eaton and the Mayors High Constable is Daniel McDonald, the new Mayors eldest grandson.
