PHOTOGRAPHER ANDY MOLITORIS Andy Molitoris has been a photographer for over 20 years and is a five-time winner of this category. He opened Photography by Andy in 2003. His services range from weddings to senior pictures to public relations projects. Molitoris has also been the photographer for the Lake-Lehman School District for many years.

ARTIST SUE HAND Sue Hand knew by age 5 that she wanted to be an artist, and she has been successful in her pursuits. She has taught thousands of students in both public and private schools and at the college level. Hand has won this category five years in a row. Her newest projects are three foot by four foot naturescapes in oils, part of the Susquehanna River project she started last year. The paintings of the river and its banks are set to debut in April at the John Heinz Rehabilitation Center.

coach in the area for nearly 30 years and has won this award five years in a row. Jackson is an assistant coach with the newlyformed Misericordia University Cougars football. He led the Dallas High School football team to a division championship last season. In the past, he coached football, baseball and wrestling for Meyers and Coughlin high schools in the Wilkes-Barre Area School District. HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER BILL WAGNER Bill Wagner graduated from Dallas High School in 1974. He attended King’s College for his bachelor’s degree and Wilkes University for his master’s in education. He is a resident of Forty Fort who has been teaching Biology at Dallas High School for 33 years. Wagner said that teaching is a never-ending job and that all teachers should be recognized for the work they do.

COLLEGE CAMPUS MISERICORDIA UNIVERSITY Founded in 1924 by the SisPiatt ters of Mercy, Misericordia University was the first four-year institution in the state of Pennsylvania. The university offers 32 majors, both undergraduate and graduate level programs, over 40 clubs and organizations and small class sizes. The university is celebrating a record enrollment of over 3,000 students this year. Misericordia dedicated the John and Mary Metz Field House and the Michael and Tina MacDowell Hall this fall. COLLEGE PROFESSOR ALISON PIATT Alison Piatt has been an adjunct professor at Misericordia University for nearly seven years. She is a resident of Pikes Creek and attended Misericordia for her undergraduate degree. She earned her graduate degree from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. It has locations on the campus of Misericordia University and on Lake Street in Dallas and offers programs for children 6 weeks of age to 4 years old. FITNESS FACILITY BIG BEAR FITNESS Big Bear Fitness opened in April, but has quickly earned the appreciation of the community. Owner Carmen Insalaco, 15 fitness instructors and five personal trainers work to provide a variety of training. Classes change monthly and new ones are added every month. Big Bear offers classes in spinning, Bodyflow, Zumba, cycling, Bodypump and many others from its location on Memorial Highway in Dallas. PLACE FOR FAMILY FUN BACK MOUNTIAN BOWL This will be the fourth time Back Mountain Bowl & Family Fun Center on Route 415 in Dallas has won this category. ORGANIZED EVENT DALLAS HARVEST FESTIVAL The Harvest Festival celebrated its 10th birthday this September. The event takes place on Main Street in Dallas each fall. It was started in 2003 and has grown every year. Committee members said there was a waiting list of vendors who had hoped to be in this year’s event. The daylong event features contests, pumpkin decorating, vendors and, of course, lots of food. LOCALLY MADE/ GROWN PRODUCT DARLING’S FARMS AND GREENHOUSES Darling & Sons Farms and Greenhouses has been providing the Back Mountain with fresh vegetables and other produce since 1930. The family-run business offers a wide range of produce, plants, flowers, hanging baskets and even homemade wreaths and other crafts. It has won this award four times.

he results of more than 4,000 reader entries were revealed at the Fifth Annual Best of the Back Mountain Awards Ceremony at Fire & Ice on Toby Creek in Shavertown on Wednesday evening. Alberta Rychlewski, of Centermoreland, represented those voters and was on hand to accept a $100 check as the winner of a random drawing of all entries. Dallas Post Editor Dotty Martin announced winners in more than 80 categories while Dallas Post Media Con-

sultant Diane McGee presented those winners with plaques and window decals. Guests enjoyed passed hors d’oeuvres and food stations created by Gary Edwards, Fire & Ice head chef and co-owner, and his staff while Fire & Ice co-owners Joe and Sandy Fasula were on hand to ensure everyone had an enjoyable evening. The night ended with attendees partaking of the Best of the Back Mountain signature cake.
