A CHANGE OF SEASONS

Spring and summer hold a special place in my heart. As winter fades away and nature awakens from its slumber, these seasons emerge as a symbol of rebirth, renewal and rejuvenation. Spring offers a fresh start, an opportunity to let go of the past and embrace new beginnings. Summer is all about appreciating those gifts and finding favor throughout each day.

Just as barren trees begin to bud and flowers come alive with a tapestry of colorful blooms in spring, summer is a season of invitations to embrace the transformative power we all have within us. The seasons remind us that we, too, can shed our own metaphorical winter and grow a new story.

For me, this is also a time to reflect back on the immense gratitude I feel for everyone who supported our first issue of WE World Magazine. No matter how many decades I spend in my business, I love that every day is a chance to learn and share something new. I have you to thank for that.

So, in this next WE World edition, I hope this issue will inspire you to create a new space for a new you in your life.

I’m excited to share my trip to Milan, where I attended the fashion shows for Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana. It was a journey that overflowed with memories of the Milan I left 34 years ago when I studied there. To see the city’s progress and input of creativity in high fashion was a helpful reminder in my own life of how everything around us evolves and grows for the better.

We’re also highlighting the latest in products and technology, from Gary’s List of favorite things to Ella’s List for pampered pets, to the latest in 3D homebuilding and sustainable design. And we’re showcasing how we relax and unwind at home between events of the season. Expect mouthwatering goodies from our behind-the-scenes story with Naples chef David Rashty, along with features on fine cigars, the art of limited edition tequila bottles, and whre locals eat in vibrant Atlanta.

Travel secrets are revealed with our hotel makeovers, awe inspiring museum openings around the world and places to get away for a healthy digital detox. We salute magnificent magenta, the color of the year, plus the latest fashion trends, including my favorite item for this season.

Most of all, my hope for you is that spring and summer will be a time to let go of negative habits and limiting beliefs. Take these seasons to nourish your soul. Pursue a hobby that brings you joy. Make positive changes and connect with the wonders around you.

Each of us, each day, has an opportunity to do what we want and change into who we really want to be. Make this your rebirth, to resolve situations which no longer serve you, and to create space for a life that makes you happy.

Adidas x Gucci merges the emblems of the House of Gucci with those of the iconic sportswear brand once again with a spectrum of sport-inspired pieces. In Alessandro Michele’s latest fashion show, which included collaborative creations from the new adidas x Gucci collection, sportwear codes were blended with signature silhouettes. “I have always loved the Gucci designer collection,” says Emanuel. “Their collaboration with Adidas to make a luxury athletic line was genius and exactly what the fashion industry needed. I love my Gucci/Adidas pieces… they are casual, wearable elegance with a twist of fun.”

PARTY TIME

Take a look at Michael Kors or Tom Ford’s latest collection and you’ll be blinded by the light of flashing, shimmering sequins. “It’s the perfect party attire,” says Wilfredo Emanuel. “Everyone loves a little bling and flash at times. To me, sequins give you that little pop of something extra to stand out from the crowd.”

MEN IN PEARLS

Lately, as the fashion industry embraces gender fluidity, it has become trendy for men to wear strings of pearls — everyone from rappers to pop culture icons (think Harry Styles) to Hollywood actors to Major League Baseball players. “When I think of pearls, I think glamour and classic sophistication,” says Emanuel. “I envision old-world Hollywood actresses and people like Jackie Onassis. It used to be that only women could wear pearls, but with fashion barriers breaking, everyone can now enjoy the beauty and elegance of them, even men.”

PRIVATE RETREAT

For Wilfredo Emanuel, it’s important to rethink the closet. His closet “is designed like a boutique showroom,” with his best pieces highlighted and clearly visible. “I have display cases and everything is organized by color or designer. I even have a TV in my closet. I spend a lot of time in this space. My friends gather in this area as we try on accessories together. It is so much more than just a closet; to me, it is my own little retreat from the world.”

BLINDED BY THE LIGHT

Spring 2023 is all about metallics in every shade of shimmer. Spotted at shows like Gucci, Versace, Chanel and Valentino (and Wilfredo Emanuel here with BFF Ingrid Etzold’s at her birthday party) — the eye-catching trend will jazz up any outfit, from statement accessories to head-to-toe looks. “I see metallic as a neutral that I can pair with many different colors,” says Emanual. “The little shimmer enhances and highlights without overpowering.”

FLOWER POWER

Flower prints, daring and whimsical, were in full bloom on spring 2023 runways, from Oscar de la Renta’s “smudged” pattern and the printed renderings at Dries van Noten to Prada’s eerie, pop-up petals “I wore flower prints in the 80’s during my Punk look,” says Emanuel. “After that, I lost contact with it. I was more focused on abstract and color blocking. Lately I find myself falling in love with flower prints all over again (see cover). The new

THE EQUESTRIAN TREND IS CIRCLING BACK INTO 2023 AND IT’S MAKING A BOLD STATEMENT.

If you’ve ever ridden a carousel as a child, you recall the calliope tune as your heart fell with the peaks and dips of your moving steed and, for a moment, you felt confident, graceful and free. This is a feeling the fashion world has long sought to capture. To its success, it found the equestrian look; Ralph Lauren polos, Gucci horsebit loafers (the Horsebit icon remains present in the company’s designs and handbag hardware to this day) and Hermès, the epitome of saddlery, whose motif of the horse permeates its various departments including scarves, jewelry and handbags.

Like a carousel, the sporty style has circled around time and again, never failing to be front and center on fashion spreads, whether it was Vogue declaring cowboy boots “the standout footwear trend of 2022,” or Monaco royal Charlotte Casiraghi riding a horse down the runway for the Spring Chanel Paris fashion week show the same year.

Likewise, high fashion’s tie to the equestrian world has been one that’s remained genuine and long-lived. Just as Hermès began as a saddle maker and now, among equestrian partnerships, saddles, bags and scarves, also transforms harnesses, buckles and bits into precious objects with its Cavelier jewelry line, by the 1930s, Guccio Gucci’s international clientele flocked to Florence to browse through his equestrian-style shoes, trunks, belts, and bags, all of which were inspired by the designer’s clients.

And, while equestrian fashion may seem like another circulating trend or preppy “go-to” look, it goes beyond the surface: It’s someone’s story, another’s passion, and an industry’s symbol of freedom.

1) Charlotte Casiraghi opened the Chanel Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2022 show during Paris Fashion Week by riding down the runway on her steed, the eight-year-old Spanish bay horse, Kuskus, dressed in a black tweed jacket with jeweled buttons from the collection designed by Virginie Viard, the longtime Chanel designer who took over as creative director after the 2019 death of Karl Lagerfeld. 2) Christian Dior Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri updates to the iconic Saddle bag with the Saddle Bag with Strap, crafted in latte grained calfskin with a magnetic D stirrup clasp, as well as an antique gold-finish metal CD signature on either side of the strap; $4,200; dior.com. 3) Gucci’s Zelda two-tone leather knee boots, crafted from panels of two-tone leather with equestrian straps punctuated with the brand’s horsebit hardware, were styled with many outfits on the Fall ‘21 Aria runway, which celebrated the Italian label’s 100-year anniversary; $2,050; net-a-porter.com 4) Lugano Diamonds’ passion for the equestrian world runs deep through the brand’s DNA, having sponsored and supported the Global Champions Tour, Wellington International’s Winter Equestrian Festival, and the Hampton Classic Horse Show for years. Artful Curves

AFTER A FEW YEARS OF SHARP EDGES, THE CURVY FURNITURE TREND IS BACK, AND IT’S OFFERING MORE THAN JUST AN OPEN FLOOR PLAN.

The beauty behind the mid-century modern trend extends beyond its sleek and shapely surface: It’s intelligent by design. Not only do rounded shapes and arcs offer a visual resting point for the eyes, they provide a psychological function that never goes out of style: to make us feel calm and safe. As open as it appears, the curvy design is also not one to steal the thunder from its more angular counterpart. In fact, eye-catching pieces, like the Tulip chair or curved credenza, complement existing geometric shapes and bring a balance of modern and feminine to any room. Bold, brilliant and beautiful, you could say that the trend of curves is not a trend at all: It’s a work of art, and it’s not going anywhere.

DIVAN 190 DAYBED From French designers Pierre Bénard, Augustin Deleuze and Nina Rose (of Pierre Augustine Rose), the Divan 190 daybed is part of a curved collection described as nothing short of “generous and voluptuous.” The Divan’s calming, natural tones complement its inviting shape, which is supported by solid oaks legs and upholstered by Pierre Frey fabric. Elegantly framing each side of the curved Divan is “Eole Lampadaire”: an adjustable, sculptural light suspension crafted in white acrylic Jesmonite plaster with an artisanal finish. SAARINEN TULIP ARMCHAIR The award-winning Saarinen Tulip seating collection consists of an armchair and an armless chair, with swivel or fixed base, all available with either an upholstered seat cushion, or fully upholstered inner shell with seat cushion. SCALE 300 An Eole lighting suspension hovers above the Scala 300: a custom curved grand dining table featuring sculpted oak legs and a fully lacquered top. The shapely setting invites its guests to dine in its chic Polus dining chairs, which are also entirely lacquered and made from solid oak and Pierre Frey fabric. DUST BEDSIDE TABLE Add color to your favorite spot with this quirky little table designed to be reversible, so you can use it on either side of your bed or you can order two for a matching set. Carefully crafted by hand in a studio outside of Chicago, the tables are made to order and you can choose your own colors, $595; dustfurniture.com.

TERRAZZO SOFA This unique sofa, inspired by Ubald Klug’s eclectic design, features an artfully layered look that resembles a topographic map. Crafted from supportive foam and upholstered in an easy to care for vegan leather material, it can be used on its own or paired in multiples to create a larger sitting space. SAARINEN WOMB CHAIR AND OTTOMAN Designed by Eero Saarinen in 1948, the groundbreaking Womb Chair was created at the request of Florence Knoll who wanted “a chair that was like a basket full of pillows, something I could really curl up in.” Saarinen took a sculptural approach to furniture design, building hundreds of models and full scale mock-ups to achieve the perfect curve, find the right line, and derive the most pleasing proportions. His designs, which employed modern materials in graceful, organic shapes, helped establish the reputation and identity of Knoll during its formative years, $5685; knoll.com.

Crafting Tequila

Two recent special editions show the creativity of the vessel can hold as much power as the liquid itself.

WHEN LOOKING AT THE MOST recent Master Artisans Limited Edition collection from storied brand Clase Azul, it’s easy to see how the design of this special range can truly complement the world-class tequila inside each bottle.

The tequila house collaborated with legendary Mexican ceramicist Jesús Guerrero Santos on the three-decanter collection (100 of each), celebrating the heritage of a specific aspect of the Mexican pottery practice.

“Cobalto” highlights blue and white tones applied using a contrast and depth-revealing paint thinning method. “Canela” pays homage to Jalisco-style pottery with black and brown hues. Lastly, “Guirnalda” has a flowered garland and is predominantly showcased in white and cobalt blue around the piece.

“I find inspiration in manifestations of Mexican culture, in our customs, in the love for what is ours, and a desire to transcend,” said Master Artisan Jesús Guerrero Santos.

Santos’ ornate designs reflect a long career in ceramic art, headlined by multiple commissions for the Vatican, including a piece for the main altar of St. Peter’s Basilica. His work on this project remains unmistakably Clase Azul with the trademark elongated decanter shape and agave-style emblem.

Over at Patrón, the third edition of the brand’s collaboration with French crystal producer Lalique is an equally-stunning portrayal of agave-inspired art for the finest of tequila blends.

According to the legacy tequila maker, PATRÓN en LALIQUE: Serie 3 “tells the story of where PATRÓN Tequila is sourced and crafted and falls in line with the timeless theme of nature.” The decanter was designed by Lalique’s own artistic and creative director, Marc Larminaux.

Where other tequila brands cut corners with the shape and styling of a bottle to show the agave plant, no expense is spared here. The decanter shows gorgeous faded hues of grey crystal and burnt orange with a beautiful display case. Further, each decanter is handmade and individually numbered at Lalique’s factory.

The liquid inside is quite special as well: According to the brand, Patrón master distiller David Rodriguez and his team curated a blend of 14 extra añejo tequilas (each aged up to eight years in French and American oak casks) so rare, that they can’t be replicated. ONE GLANCE AT DAVID RASHTY’S food photos, and you’re hooked. Au jus dripping over flawless grilled steak onto mashed potatoes, foie gras torchon with a gleaming garnish of blackberry-lemongrass gelee. Rashty’s 26,000 Instagram followers must agree, though he posts as much about his humanitarian efforts as he does his cuisine. The recipient of the Elaine McLaughlin Outstanding Hospitality Service Award has taken his place as a rock star chef in his own right, after a storied career working with chefs like Masa Takayama, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Daniel Boulud and Michael Schwartz. A graduate of the French Culinary Institute (now the International Culinary Center of NYC), Rashty dazzles diners throughout Southwest Florida who rave over dishes like orecchiette pasta duck confit with shaved black truffles, mirin-glazed swordfish with soy farotto over kabocha squash puree and tempura Okaki asparagus with rice cracker and 63-degree egg with yuzu hollandaise.

The culinary empresario sat down with WE World to give readers a glimpse behind the scenes of his private chef business and catering company.

CULINARY

WE WORLD: You’re known as a personable chef who engages with clients in classes. Why is this important?

DAVID RASHTY: I’ve spent a lot of my career in Michelin-starred restaurants and cooking for winter equestrian festivals where we did thousands of meals in a day, but I mostly love to cook for a party for a few people, making a memorable meal. I have clients who will ask for specific cuisines, like Japanese or Italian, French or Greek, and I do my best work when someone says, ‘Hey, just cook for us…’ My classes and events, even for corporate parties, are intimate and very engaging because people love to know how dishes are made. They love attending sushi rolling and dumpling-making classes, for example. I’m always happy to share recipes and people can sit back and just enjoy learning or jump in and participate. I tailor absolutely everything to the client, including culinary preferences and dietary restrictions like gluten-free, vegan, Keto and Paleo.

WW: What’s your favorite over-the-top culinary event to do for a client?

DR: I love creativity and when a client says, ‘Cook whatever you want,’ the only question is: how many courses? We did a great event in Naples that was $1,000 a person. I worked on the menu for a long time before I actually cooked it and there was a lot of research and development to arrive at the final menu. I worked with this client many times after that. It doesn’t always have to be a meal to that extent, but it is as much fun for us to provide an excellent experience

as it is for them to enjoy it. We share stories and custom tailor everything to their tastes once I get to know them, and that’s where it gets really fun. We have clients who travel for business all over the world and will come back to Naples with requests to recreate meals or cuisines they had on their travels. We live in the world where you can get anything anytime, but I love using what’s in season. And I like knowing where my food comes from, using sustainable ingredients at their peak.

WW: Much of your flavor profile in your cooking leans toward Asian cuisine. What do you love best about those flavors?

DR: Japanese cuisine is at the forefront of fine dining. Most Americans know sushi and hibachi, but at one point there were more Michelin rated restaurants in Tokyo than in France. The way Japanese chefs can take a piece of fish, some rice and seaweed, and get three Michelin stars — there is a lot to be said for that cuisine. Because those rating systems are not only based on the food, but also the composition of that food.

WW: You spent time in Japan at Tetsu, an iconic restaurant. How did that inform your contemporary private chef business and how you work with Asian flavors today?

DR: In Japan it’s about so many things, like how to skewer fish and display it and how much flavor goes into each dish. Like steak for example – we do a koji, sake and miso marinade – flavors that have been around for thousands of years. The koji is like an enzyme that breaks down some of the steak and give it a that umami flavor. For a Thanksgiving event for a client, we did a koji cured turkey wrapped in seaweed for a sweet, nutty flavor. I am also a level one sake Sommelier, so I also make my own sake.

WW: Tell us about the lavish Yacht Series featuring Chef David Rashty Catering.

DR: We have partnered with local yacht owners to produce culinary experiences on the water. This enables people to rent a 72’ Flybridge Azimut featuring

a VIP stateroom, an owner stateroom, and that sleeps eight guests. The cruise lasts about four hours and departs from Naples or Fort Myers Beach, cruising the Gulf of Mexico. On the water, guests experience an exquisite finedining multi-course menu we curate especially for the trip, customized to your preferences with paired beverages. We do request a minimum party size of six people and maximum dozen people to keep it intimate and enjoyable for everyone to participate.

WW: You are passionate about your charity work. Why is the Red Cross special to you?

DR: Going to college, I was a paramedic in New York City in the 80s and 90s, so I’ve seen how the Red Cross comes in and helps people in a crisis. I do a lot of charity events around Naples and am the regional feeding lead, soon to be manager for the local chapter of the Red Cross. When a crisis happens, the Red Cross jumps in to feed people. They provided two million meals after Hurricane Ian, engaging other organizations to pick up food and distribute it partners.

WW: What do you want people to know about a Chef David Rashty private catering event?

DR: We infuse so much energy and passion into everything we do, much of it you’ll never see, like the technique and creativity we put onto every plate before it ever reaches the table. I always want our guests to take in the moment and appreciate the love that goes into every bite.

AND TECH COME TOGETHER IN STACKABL, A NEW WAY TO TURN MANUFACTURERS’ SURPLUS INTO SUSTAINABLE AND CHIC FURNITURE.

Waste is not cool.

Usually.

But one Toronto-based entrepreneur and designer, Jeffrey Forrest, is on a crusade to change that. He founded the multidisciplinary Torontobased design studio STACKLAB, which uses surplus merino-wool felt, repurposed aluminum and sustainably harvested wood to create stylish and functional furniture pieces.

But Forrest has taken the idea one step — make that ten steps — further, by creating an algorithm that identifies and catalogs remnants available from nearby manufacturers and the robotics they use to custom create pieces. The result is the ability for customers to design their own fully sustainable pieces online.

“What excites me about the STACKABL collection is its core ambition, which is to create a technology-based system that creates a link between consumers who want things for their home that are sustainable and configurable with manufacturers who produce waste,” says Forrest.

Of course, the trick is to make it chic and functional at the same time. By all accounts, it’s mission accomplished on that front as well. In addition to unique designs and functional pieces, the STACKABL project helps manufacturers free up storage space and increase margins. It’s a win-win-win.

Almost immediately, Forrest’s idea attracted respected partners. Forrest collaborated with Benoist F. Drut, owner of New York furniture gallery Maison Gerard, to launch a STACKABL Inaugural Collection, featuring creations from five prominent interior design firms. Their creations, such as a crimson chaise longue by Jamie Drake and Caleb Anderson to a whimsical armchair by Elena Frampton, show off the possibilities, and

prove that waste can not only be reusable, but inspired and beautiful as well.

“Antiques are the ultimate recyclable, so sustainability is in Maison Gerard’s DNA,” says Drut. “I was naturally drawn to this innovative project, which has the potential to redefine our relationship with the materials we choose to make furniture with, prioritizes protecting the Earth, and has the goal of bringing a broader audience into the world of collecting.”

But perhaps the real power of STACKABL is the fact that anyone can be an eco-friendly designer of chic furnishings. Using the configurator on Maison Gerard’s website, customers can see real-time visualizations of their designs in 2D and 3D depictions. Their choices of colors, patterns, dimensions, and densities are virtually created instantly, along with pricing information as they design. Using the algorithms and robotics information

that Forrest programmed into the software, the configurator identifies local remnant inventory that matches the customer’s design. Then, at the manufacturer, the remnant pieces are run back through their own machines and finished off by their experts to create the final piece.

“The possibilities for what can be designed are endless,” says Drut. “We are only at the beginning, offering people the opportunity to custom design seating and lighting pendants with manufactured leftovers.”

The process is as fun as the results are stunning. In fact, Champalimaud, known for world-class interiors such as designs for the Plaza in New York and the Beverly Hills Hotel, found the exercise so rewarding, and efficient, that she created several versions of her Raki corner chair for Maison Gerard’s STACKABL inaugural collection.

Nothing if not a blue sky thinker,

Forrest believes his technology is but a tiny example of what the future holds.

“Until now, we’ve been limited as a species by our own brain capacities,” he says. “But now, we’re at a really exciting time when we can use technology to be far more ambitious with the problems we want to solve and be far more ambitious about creating networks around solving them.”

Pretty cool after all.

Modern Classic, a large family home in Bay Colony, is functional, modern and beautiful. The formerly Tuscan-themed home was remodeled with arches removed and replaced with clean and modern lines. Large windows which merge the outdoors with the inside overlook a gorgeous pool and let in the light.

“The most gratifying moment for me in my interior design career is when I can transform a space from one era to another. This project is the perfect example of that. The homeowners of Le Chateau, a Pine Ridge Estates residence, wanted a French Regency Chateau inspired home. WE designed the home with beamed ceilings and rustic wood floors reminiscent of the French countryside, with gilded gold accents and large-scale chandeliers that create an air of grandeur. Delicate wood fretwork is seen throughout the property, where a whimsical wall mural in the nursery was created by a French artist, separate his and her master bathrooms are joined by a large walk-in shower and a balance between ornate details and clean lines complete the modern look.

“The most challenging part of this project was finding the balance between the traditional style and some of the more clean-lined elements. In the end, I think the space created is a gorgeous example of how to combine the two styles seamlessly.”

NAVIGATING THE FASHION HOUSES OF MILAN

Atrip to Milan will leave no doubt on its title as the fashion capital of Italy – on any given day, the sidewalks resemble catwalks; a sea of glamorous accessories, designer bags and haute couture that belong in a magazine. Though the Milanese don’t need an excuse to dress up, there are two times a year that simply implore a test of their style and that is during the semi-annual fashion week in February or March and September or October.

Not only does Milan Fashion Week bring out the best in local’s attire, but also the influx of international talent, celebrity guests and amateur fashionistas create a sense of all-encompassing atmosphere of high fashion oozing at its seams. Everyone is together to witness the greatness of legacy designers anticipating their looks for the upcoming season. Especially from the iconic Milan fashion houses like Dolce & Gabbana, Giorgio Armani, Missoni, Prada, Valentino and Versace, which are all headquartered here. These are what attract the masses, while other Italian brands like Gucci and further afield, like Paris’ Saint Laurent, throw their hat in the rings to amplify this international week of glitz.

Needless to say, the city books up quickly during Fashion Week, and with an overflow of visitors, guests seeking to attend will need to book their accommodations and activities far in advance. Here’s where to stay, eat, stay and play while attending Milan Fashion week.

SHOW

Designer Wilfredo Emanuel says two iconic shows to attend are Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana. While attending the February 2023 shows, he shared that Dolce & Gabbana showcased a monochromatic palette, starting with black and lightening to white with charcoal, dark gray and light gray tones in between. Gucci, however, didn’t have an inhouse designer at the time so he was excited to see what they turned out. “Gucci for years was sharp and elegant, but they transformed to oversized, following the trend that is right now. It was very interesting to see their point of view,” said Emanuel. He said for shows, he looks for something to hold his attention rather than a particular color or trend, and these both followed through on that. He predicts that in September, for Gucci, everything will look different as they will have a new designer.

Fashion is inarguably the main draw to the city so bring a budget and leave time for shopping. Corso Vittorio Emanuele II and Corso Buenos Aires are two of the most popular retail-lined streets in the city, with international outlets and high-end storefronts existing in tandem. When you want a break from all things designer, stroll to the Navigli District, where restaurants and bars overflow onto the banks of Milan’s 12-century canals; it’s the perfect neighborhood for a leisurely walk or to settle in with an aperitif for the evening. To get a little sporty, visit La Balera dell’Ortica to try your hand at bocce ball, the Italian ball sport with similarities to British bowls.

Fashion extends to hospitality in Milan, with the likes of the Bulgari Hotel, a glamorous accommodation within blocks of Milan’s 18th-century gardens. There’s also the Ferragamoowned Portrait Milano, which opened in December 2022 as one of the city’s newest, most luxurious lodgings.

Emanuel says that one of his favorite things about Milan is the cuisine, not just the taste, but the restaurants and how they welcome you everywhere you go. The dishes are creamier here, prepared with modern takes, as well as a sort of simplicity that’s easily elevated with fresh truffle, or tartufo. Like Risotto alla Milanese (Arborio rice cooked with broth, saffron and Parmesan cheese) or Polenta Concia, a creamy polenta of cheese and butter. Of course, there’s also the thinly pounded Milanese cutlet (usually of veal) and Ossobuco, braised veal shanks with vegetables. Pizza is also popular here, usually thin crust with tomato sauce, mozzarella, oregano and anchovies, however, as with the rest of Italy, other regional styles – like Roman style and even fried – can be found across the city.

TWO THOUSAND AND TWENTY-THREE is shaping up to be the year of the museum, with many exciting new openings around the world. Featuring architecture that is every bit as inspired as the art they will house, this next generation of museums is designed to attract new followers while rewarding the faithful. Here are six museums from around the world that will make a splash this year.

ZHUHAI
JINWAN CIVIC ART CENTER, ZHUHAI, CHINA

ORANGE COUNTY MUSEUM OF ART, COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA,

Technically reopened near the end of 2022, the Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA) gets a nod here for its inspired new building and its dedication to the public by offering free admission for the next 10 years, thanks to a generous donation by Lugano Diamonds. The architecture has been 14 years in the designing, according to Architect Thom Mayne, the design director, who worked with OCMA Trustee Anton Segerstrom, son of the founder of the arts campus in which the museum sits. The goal was to have a building that invited curiosity and a glimpse of what lay inside.

So what’s inside? A lot, since the gallery space is now 25,000 square feet, or nearly double the original area. A permanent, rotating exhibition named 13 Women honors the industrious women who founded the original museum in 1962, then named the Balboa Pavilion Gallery. Other exhibits include work by Fred Eversley, Peter Walker, Sol Lewitt and Frank Stella, among others. Of course, as the dynamic architecture implies, exhibits change often, ensuring there is something for everyone and always something new to discover at OCMA. (ocma.art)

THE GRAND EGYPTIAN MUSEUM (GEM), GIZA, GREATER CAIRO, EGYPT

If there is one thing Egyptians know how to do, it’s go BIG. And the long-anticipated Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is a perfect example. Set to open in 2023, the reportedly $1 billion, 1.6 million-square-foot project will be the world’s largest museum dedicated to one civilization, Ancient Egypt. Shaped like a chamfered triangle and located in Giza, its north and south walls line up with the Great Pyramid of Khufu and the Pyramid of Menkaure, just a few kilometers to the west. Date palms dot the large plaza fronting the museum, which features a facade made of translucent alabaster.

Of course, inside will be where the real magic lies. The GEM will house the entire 5,000-piece collection from King Tutankhamun’s tomb. It will be the first time the entire collection has been displayed together since it was unearthed in 1922. But, incredibly, King Tut’s exhibition will be but a fraction of the offerings: the GEM will boast a total collection of more than 100,000 antiquities and have a library, education center and children’s museum.

First announced in 2002 and designed in 2003, the museum’s long road to opening has been plagued with financial, political and environmental setbacks. But by all indications, a 2023 opening looks likely, with an estimated attendance of more than 15,000 visitors a day, or five million a year. (visit-gem.com)

ORANGE COUNTY MUSEUM OF ART, COSTA MESA, CA THE GRAND EGYPTIAN MUSEUM (GEM), GIZA, GREATER CAIRO, EGYPT

ZHUHAI JINWAN CIVIC ART CENTER, ZHUHAI, CHINA

Inspired by the chevron patterns of migrating birds flying in formation over southern China and designed by world renown Zaha Hadid Architects, Zhuhai Jinwan Civic Art Center’s sweeping, flowing “winged” canopy unifies four distinct cultural institutions beneath. The sprawling complex will house a 1,200seat Grand Theatre, a 500-seat Multifunctional Hall, a Science Centre, and an Art Museum. Featuring few hard edges and many ramps and elongated sightlines, visitors are invited to move, explore and discover.

The site was also designed to conform to Zhuhai’s “sponge city” initiative, which dictates water conservation. As such the landscape enhances natural permeation, storage, and re-use of rainwater, while humidity and soil-moisture sensors regulate water consumption.

Almost 900 feet long and 600 feet wide, and towering over 100 feet high, it’s no wonder that Zhuhai Jinwan Civic Art Center is a bit behind its initial hoped for 2021 opening. But by all accounts, the wait will be well with it. (zaha-hadid.com)

THE AKG ART MUSEUM, BUFFALO, NEW YORK

A symbol of its dedication to being open and inviting to the public, as well as awe-inspiring, the new translucent glass building of the Buffalo AKG Museum opened May 25 of this year. Formerly known as the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the museum also extensively renovated its 1905 and 1962 buildings, although their exteriors will remain largely the same. While perhaps not one of the best-known museums in America, the museum’s parent organization, the Buffalo Fine Arts Academy, is one of the nation’s oldest public arts institutions, founded in 1862.

A treasure of New York, the museum’s $230 million fundraising campaign benefited from Buffalo native and billionaire financier Jeffrey Gundlach, who holds fond memories of visiting the art gallery as a boy. Now the G in the AKG, Gundlach donated $65 million, nearly as much as the state of New York itself. Representing the largest expansion in the museum’s 160year history, the new three-story space adds approximately 9,000-square-feet and will house modern and contemporary art. (buffaloakg.org)

ZHUHAI JINWAN CIVIC ART CENTER, ZHUHAI, CHINA

THE MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY’S RICHARD GILDER CENTER FOR SCIENCE, NEW YORK, NEW YORK

A wonder in seemingly flowing concrete, the Museum of Natural History’s Richard Gilder Center for Science’s caverns, bridges and arching walls invite movement, flow and discovery –just as they were designed to do. Not only testament to the curiosity of science, the new 230,000-square-foot structure also enhanced the navigation and accessibility to the overall museum, creating approximately 30 connections among 10 different buildings.

Jeanne Gang of Studio Gang, the museum’s architect, says they uncovered a way to vastly improve visitor circulation and museum functionality, while tapping into the desire for exploration and discovery that is so emblematic of science and also such a big part of being human.

The five-story new addition promises to amaze visitors with floor-to-ceiling exhibits on archeology, invertebrate biology and more. There will also be an immersive experience using wall-high projections to transport visitors inside the human brain, a strand of DNA and other “fun” places in nature. Visitors will be able to walk through a vivarium with 60 free-flying butterfly species, visit an insectarium and enjoy grand views of the city. What likely won’t be on display? Boredom. (amnh.org)

AUCKLAND CASTLE FAITH MUSEUM, DURHAM, ENGLAND

Religious faith throughout the centuries has informed art, great and small. However, religion is routinely seen as the backstory to exhibitions, the explanation on the placard. But with its thought-provoking medieval tithe barn-inspired architecture, the Faith Museum will seek to explore the role that various religions and faiths have played in the shaping of British history.

Opening in Autumn, the Faith Museum will consist of seven new gallery spaces on its two floors and house a collection representing 5,000 years of worship, from the British Isles’ prehistory to its modern day.

Its setting is as inspired as its contents. Sitting on the grounds of Auckland Castle, the historic home of Prince Bishops of Durham, it will join one of the most important and best-preserved bishops’ palaces in Europe. (aucklandproject.org)

“Los que tienen plata fumen tobaco,” says Lorenzo Ramirez, owner of El Leon Cigars, which has been operating in Los Angeles since 1979. The phrase translates to “those with silver smoke tobacco.”

Silver buys not a measly, machine-rolled cigarette from the bodega, but Cuban crop that’s grown, fermented, cured and aged for years before a master roller binds it in the highest quality tobacco leaf by hand. Even with perfect material, improper assembly can waste years of effort, a risk that is the benchmark of a premium cigar.

The affluent and afficionados alike seek that artistry. LA Dodgers star Joc Pederson is a prime example of a man with silver, and for his lavish wedding, he chose to splash it on Ramirez’s “custom” hand rolled cigar catering services. Instead of a private bartender mixing old-fashioneds on the spot, imagine a Sumatran Churchill assembled by an expert in just a few minutes. As the only establishment

in Los Angeles that handrolls its sticks in house, Leon’s was the place to go talk shop on a rare rainy day.

In the shelter of Leon’s Havana Noire ambience (built in 1929), shop regulars calmly smoked and eavesdropped as Ramirez explained that people go to Cigar Lounges not just to smoke the best, but also to explore their pallet.

Ramirez tells a story about some clients strutting into Leon’s demanding Cuban cigars. When Ramirez suggested they “try some Dominican and

Nicaraguan, it’s all Cuban seed,” they scoffed, he says. Because Cuban seeds are grown throughout The Caribbean and Central America, some cigar experts argue that beyond the brand glamour, these countries can deliver nearly identical caliber. “I said to these guys, if you don’t like it, don’t pay. They sat down and took a puff, waited, took another, waited. ‘I’ll take 15’ they said.”

Beyond a diverse humidor of premium, hand rolled product, a Cigar Lounge requires tasteful ambience. HOMES FUTURE

ICON, A TEXAS-BASED ROBOTICS, SOFTWARE AND ADVANCED MATERIAL COMPANY, PLANS TO HOUSE 1.6 BILLION PEOPLE THROUGH THEIR REVOLUTIONARY 3D PRINTING TECHNOLOGY. By DANTE AMODEO

When a business earns the backing of Lennar, America’s largest homebuilder, that’s a sign it’s going places. When they get the backing of NASA, that’s a sign it may be going to very, very far places.

That’s the case with ICON, a Texas-based robotics, software and advanced material company, whose mission is to house 1.6 billion people through their revolutionary 3D printing technology. Their first milestone is to construct the world’s first 3D printed neighborhood, The Genesis Collection at Wolf Ranch, in Georgetown, Texas.

BRING ON THE VULCAN

While the market for 3D printed homes was valued at just $3 million in 2019, it’s projected to grow to more than $1.5 billion by 2024, and ICON looks to be leading the charge. After years of trial and error, ICON has developed the most optimal 3D printing machine to date, dubbed the Vulcan. Filled with proprietary concrete material known as “Lavacrete,” the Vulcan operates with three-dimensional mobility as it shoots extrudable Lavacrete like cake frosting to construct the walls of a home, layer by layer. Though plumbing, electrical and roofing requirements still need to be carried out by hand, the walling — the most labor-intensive stage of the construction process — is entirely automated. Feed the machine architectural designs via software and it will build a house in any shape imaginable.

In a 2022 SXSW (South by Southwest) Featured Talk entitled “It’s Time to Build,” ICON CEO and co-founder Jason Ballard says, “If we build a hundred homes in a row, a hundred can be different. If you want a house in the shape of a Fibonacci spiral, we can print you one, and if you want a house in the shape of a square, you’re boring, but we can still build it for you.” Ballard is striving to not just build affordable homes, but ones that are beautiful, comfortable and unique.

Looking at the plans for a standard, affordable housing neighborhood, lackluster and dull designs are all too common, what Ballard classifies as “soulless housing.” But with 3D printing, “diversity of construction [in scale] is back on the menu.”

ICON claims to be able to build this caliber of home with twice the quality, half the time, and half the cost, which they’ve demonstrated in smaller projects including the first printed commercial home, a government commissioned army barrack, and a small set of homes in Tabasco, Mexico. The credibility of their streamlined process is bolstered by a partnership with NASA, who anticipate all interplanetary construction, whether it be on the Moon or Mars, to be carried out by 3D printing.

THE PERFECT TRIFECTA

In that same SXSW Talk, Ballard discusses the next phase of ICON: “We’re ready to graduate from building a few homes at a time, to hundreds in partnership with the largest, most innovative home builder in America (Lennar) to build the first 3D printed neighborhood in history. It’s going to blow people’s minds.”

To do this, ICON has formulated a dream collaboration between Lennar and The Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). Lennar brings to the table the business savvy of home building and the ability to scale ICON’s long-term ambitions, while the Danish Architecture firm BIG provides artistry that can be delivered by ICON’s technological innovation. It’s the perfect trifecta, and Wolf Ranch is the perfect start.

A mixture of eight distinct floor plans known as The Genesis Collection will populate the neighborhood’s 100 3D printed homes with 24 unique elevations ranging from 1,574 to 2,112 square feet of thoughtful living space. The homes will offer three to four bedrooms and two to three baths. All homes will be powered by the sun with rooftop solar panels and will feature components from Lennar’s Connected Home package including a Ring Video Doorbell Pro, a Schlage Encode Smart WiFi deadbolt and a Honeywell Home T6 Pro WiFi smart thermostat. Plus, each home will come equipped with the Wolf Ranch security package.

According to ICON, prices start in the mid $400,000 range. Genesis Dyce, the smallest model available at 1,574 sq feet and Genesis Kay, the largest model at 2,112 sq feet, might vary slightly.

“For the first time in the history of the world, what we’re witnessing here is a fleet of robots building an entire community of homes. And not just any homes, homes that are better in every way… better design, higher strength, higher energy performance and comfort, and increased resiliency,” says Ballard. “In the future, I believe robots and drones will build entire neighborhoods, towns, and cities, and we’ll look back at Lennar’s Wolf Ranch community as the place where robotic construction at scale began. We still have a long way to go, but I believe this marks a very exciting and hopeful turn in the way we address housing issues in the world.”

But some might be skeptical to take out a mortgage on a home created by a robot.

SHOOT FOR THE MOON

After receiving funding from a government Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract that includes funding from NASA, ICON launched Project Olympus to begin research and development of a space-based construction system that could support future exploration of the Moon. ICON will also dedicate a division of the company to focus on space. World-renowned architecture firms BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group and SEArch+ have signed on as architectural partners for the project.

“Building humanity’s first home on another world will be the most ambitious construction project in human history and will push science, engineering, technology, and architecture to literal new heights,” says Ballard. “NASA’s investment in space-age technologies like this can not only help to advance humanity’s future in space, but also to solve very real, vexing problems we face on Earth.”

This won’t be some dystopian Levittown. In fact, visitors of Icon’s homes have asserted that while they are made by robots, they feel more human than a typical home. Ballard suggests this could be because 3D printing enables seamless concept to completion, allowing humans to focus more on the creative part. While the skeleton is automated, the flooring, finishing, windows, and roofing are all manually crafted.

SUSTAINABILITY AND THE HOUSING CRISIS

3D printing is seen as a potential solution to a domestic and global housing crisis. Today’s surge in prices can be attributed to simple supply and demand. Much demand, not enough supply, and the hole gets deeper every year. Ballard says, “[In America] we presently have 5 million fewer homes than we need, and we’re building 2 million fewer than we need every year.” He goes on to state, “As we try to dig out of this hole, we resort to less skilled sources of labor, and lesser quality of materials. We try to cut corners.” This triggers, what Ballard deems, the Housing Doom Loop, where regulators attempt to butt in, but only incentivize further corner cutting; an endless cycle resulting in, “excluding design professionals from the process, and thus creating monotonous, low quality, low resiliency, soulless housing.”

“Soulless” housing construction isn’t just more expensive, labor-intensive, and inefficient, it’s also a large contributor to landfill waste, water consumption and carbon emissions. Drywall is particularly toxic and less disaster resistant than concrete. When a large earthquake struck Tabasco Mexico, while most homes were reduced to waste and rubble, ICON’s printed homes remained unscathed. The number of homes needed to be built in the coming decades is staggering, and it will be important to ensure that it’s as sustainable as possible.

The task to house the world’s 1.6 billion without adequate housing is daunting. Ballard puts the task in perspective, “Lennar, the largest builder in America, builds 70,000 homes a year, if we could build a million a year, it would still take 1000 years. Only robots can do this. There are not enough humans who know how to build things to get us out of the problem that we’re in.”

The Wolf Ranch community won’t be just a neat gimmick to sell houses, it will be a litmus test for the possibilities of scaling 3D printing and tackling the housing crisis. Ballard claims, “If we can do 100, we can do a 1000, we can do 10000,” and so on. With the backing of Lennar, BIG, and NASA, ICON are quite literally shooting for the moon.

There’s no doubt that technology has drastically changed the way we travel. From requesting a ride to responding to work emails to snapping the perfect photo and sharing it on social media, smartphones have become a crucial piece of the vacation puzzle for most. But at what cost?

Kim suggests watching for special moments during your travels that can be used as calming tools in the future. “Keep an eye out for … beautiful memories that you can keep in your head,” she says, noting that it’s easy to “revisit in your mind’s eye when needed.” Be sure to take in the details so it will be close by for years to come—smartphone nearby or not.

At Umbria’s Eremito, one of the first digital detox hotels in Italy, designer turned hotelier Marcello Murzilli has created a semi-silent retreat for guests who want to meditate and experience inner peace, with no cell phones or Wi-Fi. Guests in this tony monastery-inspired space—the site formerly hosted the ruin of a 14th century hermitage which was lovingly restored to the current luxury lodgings—sleep in celluzze, or hermit cells (with underfloor heating), while being served delicious local vegetarian cuisine at meals where talking is forbidden. One of the fastest growing metro areas in the country, Atlanta has been a “hot” destination for so long that its old nickname, Hotlanta, has become decidedly uncool. Its usage will immediately bring sneers from locals, who eschew all corny monikers (Big Peach, A Town, etc.), so if you feel simple Atlanta lacks panache, ATL is the currently acceptable option. But whatever you call it, you cannot take the hot out of Atlanta’s thriving food scene, which marries Southern and fine dining classics with an incredibly broad and culturally diverse array of ethnic, fusion and just plain creative cuisines. The city is also home to two of the nation’s coolest market-style food halls.

If you had to pick just one of the enduring and frozen in time Southern institutions, it would have to be Mary Mac’s Tea Room, honored by Georgia’s State House of Representatives as “Atlanta’s Dining Room.” 77 years after opening, it remains popular with locals, politicians, tourists and visiting celebri-

ties like Justin Bieber. Multiple dining rooms sprawl through a mansion-like interior, a full-time Goodwill Ambassador greets guests, and memorably, diners write their own orders on special slips so staff can’t make mistakes. For a much lower budget taste of classic Atlanta with zero ambiance but tons of personality, hit the Varsity, the world’s largest car hop, where you can still order from behind your wheel and have trays brought out by uniformed staffers. But it’s worth going in – its holds 800 people in addition to 600 cars – for an old school take (coming up on its 100th birthday) on freshly made fast food, notably chili dogs, fried pie and the signature burgers with pimento cheese. For a more modern local dining experience it’s hard to beat Gunshow, the nationally acclaimed experimental/interactive dining concept from Chef Kevin Gillespie, Top Chef runner up and 6-time James Beard Award nominee. In a spartan low frills dining room, a battery of chefs prepares an eclectic array of haute cuisine dishes and walk them around table to table, dim sum style,

for each diner to choose or pass on. Miller Union is ten years old but still feels new, with a simple, elevated and extremely local farm to table take on Southern cuisine – James Beard Award winning Chef Steven Satterfield’s signature is a farm fresh egg baked in celery cream with rustic bread, Atlanta’s most beloved egg dish even though it’s for dinner. At the newest cutting-edge end of the dining spectrum lies just opened (Fall 2022) West Side Motor Lounge, a sprawling indoor/outdoor campus with restaurant, craft cocktail bar and beer garden spread across a former industrial automotive complex. It features modern riffs on Southern bar food (biscuits and sausage gravy, grilled pimento and bacon sandwiches) and meat and three platters in a lively, music-filled setting.

If your challenge is choosing where and what to eat, enjoy a smorgasbord of options by heading to the Ponce City Market, once a giant Sears Roebuck complex, or the Krog Street Market, a former industrial stove plant. The former has

The latter includes elevated TexMex from Atlanta’s favorite homegrown celebrity chef and restaurateur, Ford Fry, at Superica, authentic Neapolitan pizza by Naples born chef Luca Varuni at his eponymous Varuni Napoli, and exceptional soul food such as chicken and waffles and fried catfish at Soul Food & Culture from yet another multiple James Beard nominated chef. If you are leaving Atlanta hungry – hard as that is to imagine – one of the city’s hippest eateries can only be found in Hartsfield Airport. Grab your final taste at Chicken + Beer, whose owner and Atlanta’s own star rapper, Ludacris, had lots of menu input, with surprises like boiled peanut hummus and beef cheeks braised in beer alongside fried chicken and lots of local craft beer.

Held in January 2023 at the Jet 1 Hangar at the Naples airport, Wilfredo Emanuel celebrated the launch of his eponymous magazine, WE World, with over 300 VIP clients, friends and colleagues. Surrounded by Emanuel’s signature black and gold colors, guests enjoyed aerial artists, food stations and an ice sculpture dripping onto a seafood bar before Emanuel emerged from a Gulfstream jet accompanied by his well-dressed dogs, showgirls, his partner and beauty industry expert Gary Harlan, and fireworks.

Almost $26 million was raised at the Naples Winter Wine Festival, a weekend of food, wine, events and an auction, which took place in February 2023 and benefitted at-risk and underprivileged children in Collier County, Florida. HATS IN THE GARDEN 2023

Springtime in Paris was the theme for Hats in the Garden’s fashion show featuring Oscar de la Renta’s 2023 Spring Collection. Celebrating 19 years of millinery, fashion and the beauty of Naples Botanical Garden with a champagne celebration, extraordinary luncheon, and oneof-a-kind runway show, this year’s event was one to remember with nearly 700 guests in attendance and a record-breaking $2.65 million raised. All proceeds will support Naples Botanical Garden.

The Collier Building Industry Association (CBIA) 2022 Sand Dollar Awards Gala, entitled “The Timeless Twenties-PastPresent-Future,” celebrated 32 years of excellence in the construction industry. One with Eternity will showcase the Hirshhorn’s permanent collection of works by Yayoi Kusama, including two of her Infinity Mirror Rooms — her first and one of her most recent — that create a dazzling sensation of never-ending space. These transcendent rooms will be exhibited alongside an early painting; sculptures, including Pumpkin (2016) and Flowers — Overcoat (1964); and photographs of the artist. This exhibition honors Kusama’s distinctive vision of self-obliteration by exploring its development across media while also underscoring the Museum’s mission: to present the most exciting art and ideas of our time. Among the additions to the Hirshhorn’s permanent collection is Kusama’s milestone, Infinity Mirror Room — Phalli’s Field (Floor Show) (1965/2017), the first of the artist’s immersive installations to transform the intense repetition of her earlier paintings and works on paper into a perceptual and participatory experience. Every Fourth of July the City of Naples holds the much-anticipated Fourth of July parade and fireworks display at the Pier. The parade kicks off the day at 10 a.m. and begins on Broad Avenue South at 3rd Street South. The route continues north on 3rd Street South to 5th Avenue South, south on 8th Street South and ends at 8th Avenue South. COMIC-CON INTERNATIONAL

During this multi-genre entertainment and comic convention, attendees will find all the latest in comics and graphic novels, anime and manga. Video games, movies and collector’s items also feature prominently, but the main draw is the elaborate and carefully constructed costumes from graphic novels and movies. Over the years, Comic-Con has become the focal point for the world of comics conventions. Your idea of perfect happiness being surrounded by nature with people I love and who love me. Doing some outdoor activities with my wife and three doggies. It connects me to a higher purpose.

Your current state of mind is gratitude for everyone in my life and everything that I experience, the good, the bad and the ugly. It’s a continual contribution to my personal growth. I love the opportunity to learn and gain more wisdom and insight. Most lessons are challenging, but hey, we all get scathed. It’s all part of the maelstrom.

The thing you most dislike about your appearance is … not a single thing. I stopped

being self-critical and learned some hard lessons when I had cancer. I’m not being vain. I believe in loving oneself as we are. I have scars all over my body from cancer surgery and I like all of them, too.

The greatest love of your life is my wife, Julie Love. Yes, Love is her family name. She’s the one with whom I’ve grown the most, shared the most, and gone through the hardest of times. She stood by and with me during my entire cancer ordeal. I’m grateful that we share this journey. I’m equally there for her. Every man needs an exceptional woman and I was lucky enough to find her.

The talent you would most like to have …the ability to

jump from one dimension to another, go around the cosmos within minutes, take it all in, and be back in time for dinner with Julie.

Your most treasured possession is … my comic book collection of Marvel and DC comics. It’s been a source of inspiration since I was a kid at multiple levels. I stopped collecting now and just look after the books that I have.

The lowest depth of misery …predation of any sort and mostly towards women and children. Can we stop this once and for all?

You most value in your friends the ability to be real and unpretentious. It’s a hard one

to find, but I value authenticity. Drop the facade, please.

Your favorite writers …Edgar Allen Poe, Shakespeare, and Charles Schultz from Peanuts. Great insight in all three and everything I needed to learn started there.

Your hero of fiction … Ted Lasso and Superman of course. Same people, different costumes.

Historical figure you most identify with …Van Gogh was brilliant, enlightened, and opened the world to color and freedom of creative expression. He had the ability to see beyond the veil of what we perceived as reality. He pierced and opened a

portal of a different reality in order for us to perceive the world through our hearts rather than our intellect. He wasn’t crazy, he was a genius. Of course, it’s a fine line between the two but only because we are so rigid with the terms.

The trait you most deplore in yourself …nahhhhh you’re asking the wrong person. I take care of my deplorable and turn it around to create something positive. I’m like a baboon looking for ticks and fleas. Once I find one, I give it love and nurturing and give that sucker a new life.

The trait you most deplore in others …unhealthy manipulation. It’s rampant in today’s society and I see it exercised every day in insidious ways. No wonder we’re all trauma triggered in some way. It creates a lack of trust. We should be able to be at ease with one another but instead, we’re developing all sorts of unhealthy responses to our surrounding social environment.

Your heroes in real life … those that help others in need without thinking twice about it. Fortunately, I’ve met many in my life that have inspired

me. They are usually quiet, walk softly and carry a big stick. They are guides for me and show me the way to become whole within.

If you could choose how to die there is no death, we just move on to another reality. However, when I’m on my way to that other reality, I’d like to coast it on a silver surfboard and be called “the silver surfer.”

Your motto …my moto is a British Cafe Racer, Royal Enfield, but my motto is: “A Blandino bouquet all day, every day” and what that really means is that through my paintings and artistry, I’m here to give, not to take.
