2013 WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC – POOL D: PHOENIX, ARIZONA In May 2005, an international tournament founded by Major League Baseball and sanctioned by the International Baseball Federation joined the worldwide competition of Olympic Baseball and Baseball World Cup. After those respectively dissolved in 2008 and 2011, the World Baseball Classic became the last international baseball tournament standing. Beginning this year, the World Classic will occur every four years. This year, teams in Pool D will compete at Chase Field and Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. The World Baseball Classic is in its third run, and Japan has come out as the winning team for the last two goes (2006, 2009). Sixteen teams face off in a global round-robin tournament. Japan is a two-time defending champion and the U.S., which finished No. 4 in 2009, is currently ranked No. 7 of the 16 teams. The Lone Butte Casino is on the other side of the highway, a mere five minutes away. This cozier casino has 450 interactive slots and six blackjack tables. If you get hungry, Café 24/7 serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, or try Verona Chophouse for steak, pasta or seafood.

This is one of the best casinos in the Valley for the gambling experience and entertainment. With a huge gambling area, it’s almost impossible to play all the games available. In terms of entertainment, the Fort hosts some of the best stage shows and touring groups that come to Arizona. Also available are keno and bingo areas, with the bingo hall having non-smoking and smoking sections. When you get hungry, The Red Rock Buffet is all-you-can-eat, or perhaps Asian fare at Noodles Sushiya, with traditional favorites or sushi.
