Western Weddings
estern weddings are the one of the hottest trends. Couples are selecting locations like ranch wedding venues, vineyard wedding venues, and barn wedding venues to host their big day and with those venues comes a fun hometown feel. Many brides and grooms these days can create their own tradition for the ceremony. Instead of walking down the aisle to your groom, the bride and the groom can arrive together and follow the wedding party up the aisle. First the wedding party, then the flower girl and ring bearer (instead of baskets use cowboy hats!) then the bride and groom. This might mean incorporating a pick up truck or horses for transportation. Being driven up to the ceremony in the back of the truck or a horse drawn buggy definitely defines the authentic western wedding. Décor ideas are endless. Use chairs and hay bales for creative seating. Cover the bales with fabric or tableclothes for more comfort. They can be arranged throughout the reception as seating areas along with the table and chairs. Keep it simple! Use mixed flowers in mason jars for centerpieces along with gingham tableclothes. If the wedding is taking place outside hang creative lighting from the trees to create a magical atomsphere. Use horseshoes as table decor, or incorporate them by placing horseshoes on different surfaces throughout the reception. 6

Construct a bar using wooden pallets. In addition to cocktails, make sure to offer lemonade, ice tea, and maybe a signature drink or two! Popular wedding favor options include little potted cacti, candles, soaps shaped like cowboy hats, stars or boots, and shaped containers like tin pails, filled with candy or other confections. Hot sauce with custom labels and bandannas also all make great favors. There are limitless options for favors when it comes to a western style wedding. Some couples give out engraved belt buckles to the groomsmen and bridesmaids. Nothing says western more than a down home BBQ meal with all the fixins’. Barbecued meat, beans, corn, biscuits, what could be better? Usually if your wedding is on a ranch or in a barn the venue will have a barbecue for use. If not, there are catering companies available that will bring a barbecue to the venue, along with menu options for you to choose. There’s no end to the creative options you can explore with a western style wedding. Enjoy the opportunity to cut loose and express yourself with a western wedding that reflects your personal style and allows everyone to have a lot of fun. And don’t forget to ask your wedding party to wear western attire and cowboy boots. Kick up your heels and have some fun at your western wedding! coast alwed d ing . com

Relaxation and fun
FAVORED CHOICES FOR BACHELORETTE PARTIES
As a rite of passage, the bachelorette party has long gotten a bad rap. Stereotypes persist of the bride’s night-before-thewedding gathering as a ladies-only version of the raucous bachelor party. Yet the truth is, a growing number of brides desire a tasteful, relaxing, and deeply personal send-off for their single days. We’re seeing an emphasis on relaxation for the bride and companionship with her friends in today’s bachelorette parties. Brides want to spend their special night—and often an entire weekend—in a soothing, stress-free atmosphere before the hectic pace of their wedding day. So what are the things that brides and bridesmaids must have for their bachelorette soirees? Here are five indemand elements:
Spa Time
Whether it’s a group mani-pedi, a yoga class, or a lunch of delicious, healthful spa cuisine, bachelorette groups crave spa time. Parties are looking for spas that offer a comprehensive list of salon services, familiar and new massages and body treatments, and easy access to luxury accommodations. For example, bachelorette groups often book rooms in or near the location where the spa is located. Participants can spend the day in their spa robes if they choose. This is the most popular activity among bachelorette parties, and is often the center of the party. Playing to this trend, many resorts have created female-centric spa packages.
Great food
Forget the pigs in a blanket, deviled eggs, and other de rigeur finger foods long associated with bridal showers. Modern 10

bachelorette groups are looking for dining options that are luxurious and delicious, or that accommodate lifestyle needs such as gluten-free or low-calorie diets. Spa fare often fits well with this preference. Resorts with multiple dining options afford bachelorette guests the opportunity to dine lightly for lunch and then enjoy a more indulgent dinner.
Bonding activities
Hitting the bar and dancing the night away are no longer the only bonding activities for bachelorette groups. From yoga classes and golf outings to wine and chocolate pairings, brides-to-be are looking for more diverse, sophisticated activities they can do with their girlfriends.
A location “away from it all”
Nearly half of bridesmaids said they didn’t want to go crazy for a bachelorette party, they just wanted to enjoy time with their friends. Perhaps it’s because their lives are about to change dramatically. Maybe it’s a need to reaffirm the girlfriend bond that has seen them through life’s ups and downs to reach this happy point in their lives. Whatever their reasons, a growing number of brides are looking for a bachelorette experience that transports them and their closest friends far away from their daily routines. Some fulfill this wish by choosing a resort location far from home. Others may choose accommodations that are more intimate. Bachelorette parties can also opt to stay at a resort’s luxury private cabins. Bachelorette party experiences are becoming as individual as the brides they celebrate. Brides are not cookie cutter, so their bachelorette parties shouldn’t be either! coast alwed d ing . com

ROMANTIC, RUSTIC VINTAGE WEDDINGS
intage designed table settings might just be the newest trend in wedding themes. Romantic, rustic, and free spirited is the perfect mood that can be created for couples who are tying the knot in a barn or on a farm and want to have an organic whimsical style for their incredibly special day! Today’s vintage wedding may include farm tables, hand-painted paper goods, a beautiful vintage gown, and lots of farm-fresh design elements. Vintage table arrangements don’t have to consist of flowers—it can be pineapples stuffed with cascading wheat stems or succulents in glass bowls, even eggs in baskets with the bride and grooms names painted onto the eggs, you can gather pine cones, twigs, and berries to use as a part of your centerpiece. They are easy to find and can be painted white, silver, gold, or red to really make them stand out. You can also buy metallic floral spray paint and use it to “frost” your natural elements to make them look elegant. With vintage if you choose flowers, large bright, bold ones mixed with fresh ferns make a welcoming table setting. Containers can be as simple as colored mason jars or tin boxes wrapped in jute for that country vintage style. Table runners can be made of burlap or a bright colored fabric with candles traversing the large farm tables for romantic evening lighting. Accent colors using turquoise and reds or bright purples with creamy whites add to the vintage look and feel. If your reception is outside in a woodsy area a great DYI project is to hang a round or oblong chandelier above the bridal table (or all the tables). Get a vintage chandelier and embellish with beads, candles, or fabric, or use a tree limb for an oblong table embellished with hanging candles, flowers, and mementos. Baby food jars wrapped with wire and beads and a votive inside are a great addition and also add light to the party. Luminaries are also a great idea to help define walkways if the reception or wedding is in the evening.

If someone close to you is getting married, you’re probably going to want to make a toast at their wedding to demonstrate how happy you are for them. But if you’re not a polished public speaker and your tongue gets tied and palms get sweaty just thinking about it, you might be looking for some guidance. While what you say on their special day is up to you, there are some common rules as to how it’s said. Whether it’s you, someone in your bridal party, or a family member making a toast at the wedding, here are a few hints to make it less stressful and more meaningful: • You can offer a traditional wedding toast, or give an original toast. If you choose to give an original toast, prepare it ahead of time. • Practice your toast; if you’re afraid you’ll blank out when the time comes, put your thoughts on note cards. • Humor is good, but don’t make inside or off-color jokes during your toast.
Insert strategic pauses to add emphasis. Doing so will also help prevent you from rushing through the speech. Keep your toast to around two minutes. If you find yourself talking quickly (which is likely if you’re nervous) make a conscious effort to slow down.
ONE TRADITIONAL ORDER FOR TOASTS IS AS FOLLOWS: • Welcome Speech, is usually the father of the bride. • Maid of Honor carries on about how great the bride is • Best Man usually speaks towards the end of dinner about the groom and his bride • Newlyweds toast grab that mic and thank your parents!
• The toast should be short, sweet, and personal.
End the toast on a positive note. Include a formal indication to inform them of the ending of the toast and • Make sure everyone’s glass is full before starting what to say next. For example: “Let us now toast the to a your toast. life of love and happiness for Vienna and Jake. To Vienna Go through all the motions. Imagine where the audience is and Jake!” As you say this, wave your glass to all, then tip it sitting, when rehearsing pretend to make gestures and eye towards the person you are toasting to. Then clink your glass contact in that direction. gently with those around you and sip your drink! 20

FOR CHOOSING THE FLORAL DECOR FOR YOUR WEDDING
For most couples their wedding will be the first time in their life they place a large floral order. Whether you choose to hire your local flower shop or a special events floral designer working from a private studio, here are a few tips to help with the process of finding the right florist and floral decor for your big day. When you meet with a florist for the first time bring visual aids.
Bringing these items helps the designer get a clearer idea of your style and vision for the wedding day. Photos of flowers and arrangements that you like, swatches of the colors you’d like working with (get these from the paint section of your local hardware store paint dept.) and photos of the dresses (bride and bridesmaids) will serve as good jumping off points for your consultation. Be realistic about your budget and what you can afford-and then be prepared to pay a bit more…
Most couples are on a budget when wedding planning. They also don’t have a firm sense of what flowers cost and the labor involved in planning and creating custom floral arrangements. When meeting with your florist bring photos of arrangements/styles that you like. Be honest with yourself about what you are comfortable spending and then remember, like everything else when planning a wedding, you may experience some sticker shock. If you’re open with your designer about budget they should be able to 22

steer you away from options that may not fit your budget. Conversely, if money isn’t a serious concern, they can guide you towards larger floral installations. When considering where to use flowers as décor choose elements that will give you the most “bang for your buck”.
It is always more impactful to purchase fewer but larger, fuller, more elaborate designs that create a big impact versus many small, less expensive arrangements that guests won’t notice. When choosing the types of designs and décor, consider your photography
Long after the flowers have wilted and the guests have gone, your photography and memories are what remains of your wedding day. When deciding on where to spend and where possible cuts might be made remember that your photos will tell your wedding day story and flowers in those photos play a big part, especially in images of the bridal party and the ceremony.

Every wedding needs a “Wow” factor
Whether it’s creating a welcoming atmosphere for guests with a large, lush floral piece, framing the couple with an elaborate floral ceremony arch or placing an individual flower at each place setting, flowers create memorable moments visually and with scent. Every wedding needs a little drama (the good type!) and flowers are a great way of achieving that. Choose Floral Arrangements and Décor that fit with the season and venue for your wedding
Creating a unique and beautiful look for your wedding means choosing floral materials and varieties that are cohesive with the location. This doesn’t mean choosing obvious materials (i.e. shells on the beach, fall leaves in the autumn) but it does mean being sensitive to what is in growing at the time and if the wedding is taking place outdoors, what might occur naturally in the area. Your floral designer is the person to ask about this and should be able to guide you. Be open to suggestions
Try to remember that your florist has undoubtedly seen a coasta l w eddi n g .com
lot more weddings than you and they most likely have good ideas about what works well at a particular venue and what may not. Ask your florist for their ideas and whether they can make any suggestions on what would look best and give you the best value. Applying these guidelines, your wedding floral design should go as you imagine it! by Kristy White owner/designer at Driftwood & Roses driftwoodandroses.com/

For a bride, shopping for bridesmaid dresses can be a tall task as every bridesmaid is different. How can the bride find a dress for her bridesmaids that will display her own taste, look great on every girl and will fit into the financial picture?
Choosing the right dress can be a challenge, but it’s not impossible. Different styles of dresses, in the same color and fabric are a popular feature in bridal parties lately. This gives every member of your bridal party to have a style and length that best suits their body type. It’s ideal to actually place the order for the gowns about four months before the wedding. This will allow time for alterations, shopping for shoes, and other accessories and leave time to dye the shoes to match the gown. The bride will find it most helpful to shop with the one bridesmaid whose fashion sense she shares. The ultimate decision about the perfect bridesmaid gown is always up to the bride. 24

The next step for most brides is choosing the gown color. Looking at bridesmaid swatches in the bridal shop can do this. Most manufacturers make bridesmaids dresses in anywhere from a few colors to as many as fifty. Choosing the actual color will narrow the choice of dresses to a more manageable number. The bride must then consider the size ranges and figure types of her maids. Consider choosing different styles of dresses to assist in flattering all body types of your bridal party. Today, many gown manufacturers are adjusting their prices to meet everyone’s financial needs. Many designers have lowered their prices with no reduction in the quality of the garments. This year’s selection of dresses should meet the approval of everyone in the wedding party. The bride may save time by doing her preliminary shopping online. Looking online is a great way to get ideas and prepare for going into a bridal shop. Creating a board on Pinterest is a great way to store your ideas somewhere that you can easily access! Preparing yourself with online browsing will assist in honing in the color and styles you want to choose from. The bridesmaid look is not complete without shoes and accessories. Shoes are available in many styles in fabrics which can be custom dyed to match the gown. Also popular are the clear vinyl shoes in strappy sandals some with changeable colored ribbon straps. Matching jewelry color is a great way to let bridesmaids have some individuality to their look while still being cohesive in style. With all the choices in bridesmaid dresses available today, every member of the wedding party should be happy with the final results and will spend the wedding day celebrating with the bride and her groom.

CREATING YOUR
Natural LOOK
One of the biggest blunders brides make on their wedding day is thinking they have to wear more makeup or have big hair because it’s a special occasion. If anything, you want to look like you on the biggest day of your life. If you’re used to the natural look, then stick with the natural look. Even if you’re used to wearing heavier makeup, the natural look is a better way to go. Here are a few tips to help you keep that natural look for your makeup and hair:
a while. Set with powder if you have oily or combination skin. But don’t use a lot—you don’t want your skin to look cakey. Use a product with fine particles, and dust it just on the T-zone. If you get shiny during the day, touch up with blotting sheets. Finish with setting spray. It will help your makeup last the entire day. It works great — even in hot, humid climates. If you choose to have your makeup done, do a trial run a couple of weeks before so you can get the right look for that special day.
One is most important is to avoid the sun. Don’t go out and tan in the sun before the wedding. There is too much chance of sunburn or too much tan. The last thing you want is to have red, blotchy or peeling skin. If you want to have a tan, go and get a spray tan but do a trial run a couple of weeks before the wedding so you know what it will look like. Talk to the clerks at the tanning place, they can help you decide on shade and when you should have it done before the wedding for the optimal color.
If you are going for the natural look, your hair should be natural too! First and foremost, always do a run through. It’s worth it even if your stylist charges you. It’s very important for you to get a feel of how your hair will look on that day, and equally as important for your stylist to get to work with your hair. Ask the stylist questions before that first time. Should I wash it? Should I put gel on it? Most stylists like your hair to be natural with nothing on it when you come in. Then they can start fresh. As far as styles go, stick with your As far as makeup, prep with primer. It helps it go on natural hair. If your hair is curly, keep it that way.
