2019

F L OR A L W E D D I NG R E C E P T ION D É C OR 2019 is expected to see a revival of bright, deep, jewel toned blooms and an abundance of greenery as a big part of both the ceremony and reception. While greenery has been popular in garlands and archways, now brides are including Pampas Grass into their wedding arches, hanging floral designs, centerpieces, pew and isle ends and dramatic ceiling and wall installments as homage to Meghan Markle’s stunning 2018 wedding arch. Brides will be moving towards more of an industrial look that includes a lot of raw spaces and materials along with lush greenery and classic florals for an alteration from the rustic chic barn look that became one of the biggest trends of 2018. 2019 will introduce flowers back into the centerpiece fold however they will likely be low in height, tailored, greenery pieces that bring an outdoor feel to any indoor venue space. This years centerpieces will give way to “showpieces” or larger floral or greenery arrangements such as flower or greenery walls or hanging installations. Guests love a good photo opportunity and this is a great way to provide instagram ready backgrounds that aren’t confined to the dance floor and instead allow your guests to move around the room and create their own memories on your special day.

2019 BRIDAL BOUQUET TRENDS

Brides are throwing conventional wedding traditions out the door and transitioning from subdued shades to include bolder, deeper jeweled tones into their bridal bouquets and reception decor. Color trends will include tones such as maroon, burgundy, peony, hunter green, coral and pacific blue along with soft pinks and cream tones punctuated with deep red hues to add warmth, depth, and texture that creates an intricate display. While classic whites mixed with romantic reds and a lush backdrop of greens tend to represent an overgrown garden aesthetic, neutral palettes paired with deep blues and jewel tones are both sophisticated and simple containing both high and low notes whilst using deeper colors to create a more organically romantic arrangement. When it comes to the flowers in a bride’s bouquet, couples are choosing quality over quantity and have increasing interest in remarkable flowers than in an abundance of flowers. We can expect a refined boho aesthetic for 2019 bouquets, among other trends, that incorporates a reeled in and slightly 8

more controlled look while still having plenty of overflowing greenery and approximately two to six amazing floral blooms such as dahlias, ranunculus, garden roses, peonies and protea. If you really want to have your favorite flower stand out, brides will showcase one single, large, blooming bud of their choice in the center of an all greenery arrangement to provide a stunning contrast that adds an allusion of personal taste. Another big trend we see for next year that is on the other end of the spectrum, minimalism. Minimalist brides will want their floral bouquets to stand out while maintaining a sense of eco-consciousness and utilizing locally sourced flowers such as carnations, tulips and hydrangeas that not only look gorgeous but also smell divine. coast alwed d ing . com

Tiaras and Crowns COMPLETE YOUR LOOK

Bridal trends and fashions change with the wind, but headwear and accessories are ever present in the stylish bride’s wardrobe. From veils to fascinators and everything in-between, bridal headwear can complete your bridal look. There are many options from the traditional veil to a wreath of flowers. A growing favorite, especially for outdoor weddings is flower crowns or wreaths. Formal or bohemian can be used depending on the style and theme of your wedding. They’re stunning headwear alternatives, and many brides are adding extras such as berries and pinecones depending on the season. Tiaras and crowns are the go-to bridal accessory for anyone wishing for a formal look to their wedding. It is such a pretty and romantic piece accessory it will always be a favorite. Headbands are a popular option. It can be thick or thin, simple or ornate. Jeweled headbands are beautiful and complement any bridal look. 10

More delicate than a tiara or a headband, and often overlooked, is a circlet. Usually worn across the forehead, these are elegant and beautiful bridal headwear pieces that make gorgeous jewelry alternatives. Combs, pins and fresh flowers remain a popular choice and are particularly common with brides who wear their hair in a simple or dramatic up-do on the big day. Clips can be used far more broadly, with any hairstyle, and any theme. Headpieces come in such a huge array of styles, and some brides enjoy going off the beaten track a little bit by using statement hairpieces like elaborate headdresses, fascinators and brooches, and even hats, caps, and hair wraps. Don’t feel like you have to choose one thing or another. As long as you don’t try to put too many accessories onto your head you can mix and match different hairpieces for a unique and beautiful look. It’s quite popular to wear a piece of jewelry, like a hair comb or tiara, with a veil, and it’s not uncommon to see a flower crown paired with a veil too.

Getting Married ON THE CENTRAL COAST

As winter turns into spring, couples will be joined together in marriage throughout the Central Coast. Some are locals; others are out-of-towners attracted by the region’s natural splendor and coastal charm. The Central Coast’s unique reputation for diversity, even eccentricity, is proving to be the magnet that is drawing romantics from all walks of life. While many brides want the wedding nuptials they’ve carried with them since childhood, their dream may be radically different from conventional ceremonies of the past. No problem, this community can accommodate from the simplest to the most eccentric visions of wedding splendor. Many receptions and weddings are still held in traditional spots such as churches, country clubs and reception halls, but an adventurous percent choose to celebrate in the towering redwoods or atop a cliff with spectacular ocean views, at a beach hotel or a beautiful backyard, or the Central Coast host some of the most beautiful winery venues. The growing base of wedding consultants and companies that cater to weddings demonstrates the Central Coast’s ability to compete with any other location when it comes to orchestrating a memorable event. Wedding service providers of all sorts are seeing their businesses grow and flourish based on the services provided here. Many clients

from Silicon Valley and the Bay Area are choosing to travel to this area to take advantage of the natural beauty and unique wedding venues and services. Brides and grooms are flocking to the Central Coast for the weather and natural beauty. A large majority of weddings and receptions in the area are held outdoors, that can range from simple ranch style weddings to formal ceremonies. Popular options are spacious backyards in local homes, which can easily host a smaller guest list, while local country clubs, resorts and hotels are also in high demand. This area abounds with creative solutions guaranteed to make it a day to remember. The Central Coast can accommodate all budgets weather it’s a cliff wedding at a beautiful resort or a simple on the beach ceremony there are alternatives for every budget, if it’s a small sum of money that has been pooled together or a lavish wedding that has been planned for years there is something for every couple. Your wedding is a time to honor the union of a loving couple as you embark on your new life together. Your wedding is what you want it to be. DON’T FORGET THE WEDDING PRESENT FOR YOUR PARTNER

A long gone tradition in weddings is making its way back— the giving of gifts between bride and groom. If you’re reading this article, you’re most likely are one of the many couples that has gotten engaged since Thanksgiving. As you prepare for the big day, with something old, new, borrowed and blue, remember - tradition holds that you both exchange wedding presents with one another.

For the Bride

For the Groom

Jewelry Box – To treasure love notes, jewels, keepsakes or accessories.

Cufflinks - Personalized, truly elegant and back in fashion.

Perfume - A favorite scent to wear on her wedding day.

Watch - An expensive gold piece or a nice sports watch will do.

Silk Robe – For the honeymoon, a silk, lace or floral robe.

Cologne - A signature scent for your new husband.

Colored Gemstones – A special gem, that has symbolic meaning, set in a necklace, bracelet or earrings.

Shaving Set - Complete with brush, mug, shave cream and aftershave.

Spa Day – Pamper her with a massage, facial, or day of beauty at her favorite salon.

16

Etiquette governs that gifts are exchanged either: the night before the wedding, the morning of the ceremony, or before you leave on your honeymoon. Here are some gift ideas to keep in mind whether you two opt for some type of jewelry (a very popular choice) or something else entirely.

Wedding Dress Trends

One of the biggest influences on bridal trends this year was Meghan Markle and it should come as no surprise. 2019 trends predict a return to simple and classic wedding dresses such as Meghan’s ceremony and reception dresses - particularly the boat-neck-meets-off-the-shoulder silhouette. Other dress elements that are gaining popularity for 2019 are statement bows, long billowy sleeves and geometric patterns and shapes as opposed to floral lace and sweetheart necklines. Think oversized, structured bows that act as trains, sweet loops that make delightful straps, metal bows that literally tie entire looks together, regal sleeves of all lengths and more straight lines used in the dress design details, such as in the fabric cutouts and the trim. Regal capes and capelets add a touch of vintage inspired elegance to tastefully accessorize your wedding dress. We can also credit Meghan for a resurgence of the bridal tiara and headband. Another wedding dress trend that has matured over the years isn’t a dress at all but is in fact the bridal jumpsuit. Jumpsuits and pantsuits are a fun option for rehearsal dinners or additional wedding celebrations leading up to the big day. Since more designers have been including jumpsuits in their bridal collections, they have become increasingly 18

more popular as an option for both formal weddings and smaller, more casual weddings; the latter being an overall trend for 2019. While some trends are leaning towards a more regal inspired look with clean lines and minimal embellishments, another trend that is predicted to gain popularity in 2019 are Floral Jewelry Statement Pieces. Real blooming jewelry with a life of it’s own such as blossoming necklaces, succulent cuffs and tasteful orchid drop earrings are all trends we can expect to see rise in popularity in the New Year. If you’re shopping for THE dress for your special day, whether you’re planning to dress more causal or formal, keep your eyes open to stay ahead of these exciting 2019 trends.

LOOKING YOUR MOST

From the minute you start thinking about your wedding all kinds of thoughts come to mind: How should I wear my hair? How much make up should I wear? The bottom line is that you want to look beautiful for your guests, the photos and your future husband! Hold your true self, near and dear. Down the road looking back at pictures of your wedding and reminiscing, you won’t be disappointed if you are looking your most beautiful and natural self.

makeup looks will give you the opportunity to put together the perfect look! There used to be an unwritten rule that you shouldn’t wear a bold nail polish color on your wedding day but throw that rule out and pick a color that compliments your hair, makeup and wedding color scheme. Your hands will be on display all day long—signing the wedding certificate, showing off your rings, shaking hands…...make sure it’s a color you want in your photos.

You’ll want to try different hairstyles before your big day, Putting a lot of thought and planning into how you will look but choose the one you are most comfortable with. Two on your wedding day is key to a happy wedding. The bride very important considerations are what style neckline your that looks good feels good! dress has and if you will be wearing a headpiece. There are many types of veils that look great with any hairstyle. Some veils can be pinned into an elegant bun at the back and some have a built in headband that looks great with the hair down. If no veil, consider flowers in your hair to coordinate with your bouquet or a flower crown compliments the popular bohemian style wedding. Intertwining flowers into your hair is a popular trend this year as well. A strapless dress can be complimented with delicacy by wearing your hair up with a pair of dangle earrings. If it is the necklace you want to showcase, wear your hair down with beautiful flowing curls. It used to be that wearing a braided hairstyle was only for the bohemian bride; nowadays, a soft and glamorous braided hairstyles are being embraced by classic and modern brides alike! Romantic braided wedding hairstyles for long hair or incorporating hair extensions to get the look of long hair have become very popular. What about make up? Do a trial run to get it exactly how you want it to look on your wedding day. Prior to the wedding, you may want to try a few different looks and see which best suits your taste. This year the nude look is in so maybe try light shades of shadow, a nude lip color and a tint of lip gloss. HOW TO PLAN THE PERFECT

How to plan the perfect beach wedding A wedding is one of the most memorable days’ you will have in your lifetime, planning a wedding is possibly the most stressful days you will have in your life time. Themed weddings have been very popular for the last few years and the classic beach wedding is never going out of style. Many couples are choosing to have their weddings in exotic, romantic and memorable locations, these locations include breathtaking views and a natural setting, all of which the beach has to offer. Here’s what to know when planning a beach wedding. The Attire Skip the big dress, a ballgown belongs in…a ballroom. Walking along the beach and taking photos won’t be so easy in a ballgown on the beach. You want your dress to be a lightweight fabric that flows in the ocean breeze. When planning an outdoor beach wedding you have to consider the possibility of getting an ocean breeze throughout your ceremony; which is why you may want to reconsider wearing a long veil. Not only does a long veil in the wind pose problems for your photographer but it will annoy you just as much. Sand and heels just don’t mix, some excellent alternatives are flat-sole sandals, espadrilles, or wedges. You will also want to consider your hairstyle for a beach wedding, wearing a tried and true updo will keep you looking polished all-night long.

24

wedding Coastal

| WINTER-SPRING 2019

coast alwed d ing . com

The Ceremony Not a lot compares to have the ocean as your backdrop for your wedding ceremony, with that being said you don’t need it to be too dressed up. Instead, focus on using the natural beauty around you to enhance your setting. To make your setup really pop on the sand choose colors that contrast the sand and surf. When looking for vendors near the beach you’re getting married on try and shop local. Local vendors will be conscious of the local markets and respect the beach environment. You may need to look into getting a permit for your beach ceremony, especially if it’s on a public beach. The permits may also vary if you’re doing just your ceremony or both your ceremony and reception. When choosing a date it’s important to recognize beaches are usually pretty busy around holiday weekends, so unless you want the general public attending your wedding it’s best to avoid choosing a holiday weekend for your wedding day. Depending on the time of year, it’s important to

coasta l w eddi n g .com

provide shade for guests, prepare for wind, keep the bugs at bay and offer refreshments. Lastly, when it comes to the ceremony make sure your wedding guests are prepared that your ceremony will be on the beach; you can do this by adding a drizzle of sand in your invitations. The Reception There’s a big difference between a ceremony on the beach versus a ceremony and a reception on the beach. While some will choose to hold their reception on the beach, others will choose to go to a separate location. Often times couples will hold their reception at a beachfront venue, so they are still near their ceremony site but out of the sand. Holding your reception at the beach brings in a long list of permits and ordinances, more so than for just a ceremony. The most important thing to remember when planning your beach wedding is to make it your own. This day is for you and your significant other to make life long memories!

wedding day is filled with symbolic tradition, from varied religious customs to the never-ending circle reflected in the rings and the types of flowers accentuating the celebration. Even with all the traditional rituals to consider, nearly every bride and groom can find ways to give their special day some unique touches that reflect their personality and love. Music sets the mood for every wedding, and it’s an easy place to put your own spin on the celebration. Whether you forgo the traditional bridal march entirely or simply look for an arrangement that gives an updated twist to the classic version, let guests know this isn’t your average wedding by setting the festivities against a soundtrack that lets your true character shine. The wedding party is intended to be a collection of those nearest and dearest to the bride and groom, who helps ensure the day goes off without a hitch and who lead fellow revelers in celebrating the start of the new couple’s life together. That being said, there’s no reason this group must be limited to women on her side and guys on his, or even that it’s limited to humans – a beloved pooch can make for an adorable ring-bearer, after all. You can display these at a table with the guest book, as part of the table centerpieces, or even on the gift table. Or take things digital and load all your images into a slide show set to music. Make favors meaningful. Forgo more common items like bubbles and chocolate, and instead send a little of yourself home with your guests. Maybe it’s a memento from a place with special meaning to you both, or a bottle opener shaped like a bicycle to represent the way you met. Just think about the moments and things that define you as a couple and do some searching online. You’ll probably be surprised by how quickly the options pile up. Serve up a menu that shows guests more about your life together. Your loved ones can order basic beef or chicken anywhere. Instead, give them a glimpse into you. Make your main course the same food you enjoyed on your first date or during another monumental moment in your courtship. Or plan the entire menu around a region that you hold close to your heart. Weddings are filled with traditions, but that doesn’t mean you can’t put your own touches on the day for a special event filled with memories that are uniquely your own.

YOUR HEAD COVERING TO YOUR DRESS Wedding hair designs have seen a considerable change as the fashions through the years have changed. Deciding how to wear your hair and make up for your wedding is a very important decision to make. Today’s styles are much softer and more natural than the rigid styles of years ago. The veil is not the only head covering anymore that a bride will wear in her wedding. Many modern brides wear hats, fascinators, barrettes, headbands, tiaras and many more unique head coverings. Hundreds of eyes will be on you, the bride, on the big day and so your hairstyle will need to be perfect to ensure that you feel your best on your day. Before selecting a particular hair design, make sure that it also complements the wedding dress in terms of style, era, and the cut of the dress. A highnecked dress would call for an updo to show off the beautiful neckline and a low-cut or strapless dress will look great with either an updo or a longer style. Take a picture of your dress and your head covering (or better yet bring it with you) and show it to your stylist. Try many styles until you find the one that suits you best and makes you feel good. After all, this is your big day, and everyone will be looking at the bride!

4 WINE BUYING TIPS FOR WEDDINGS Traditional wedding rules have fallen by the wayside - food trucks are in, having a hashtag is a must, bridesmaids no longer wear the same dress and groomsmen are sometimes in sneakers. Couples are actively seeking ways to differentiate themselves and get creative. All that aside, there is one thing that remains constant - weddings must have wine. Without wine, there is no glass to raise during the toast to the bride and groom and nothing to drink when the bar closes during dinner. Wine is the first thing guests are offered when they take a seat, and you know what they sayit’s important to make a good first impression. Choosing the right varietals for your wedding does not have to be a stressful endeavor. Whether you’re a novice wine drinker or a connoisseur, follow these four tips and you’ll please a crowd without spending a fortune: SAY “CHEERS!” WITH A SPARKLING WINE. People love a good toast, and nothing washes down a teary maid of honor speech like a glass of sparkling. is an 46

wedding Coastal

| WINTER-SPRING 2019

accessible option that’s ideal to enjoy any day of the year, but perfectly suited for special occasions. You’ll get six pours out of a bottle, so plan accordingly! Good things come in threes. In addition to a sparkling, you’ll want a red and a white option that are familiar and food-friendly. You can’t go wrong with a Merlot. For a white, Pinot Grigio or Chardonnay is exceptional and ideal for food pairing. WINE MATH: WHAT YOU DIDN’T LEARN IN SCHOOL. Running out of wine mid-wedding isn’t an option, so it’s important to do the math. You should anticipate getting about 5 glasses per bottle and assume that each guest will drink one glass per hour. Follow this rule and the wine will flow all night long, keeping you and your guests happy. DON’T BREAK THE BANK, BUT STAY AWAY FROM THE CHEAP STUFF. Choosing an excellent wine doesn’t mean paying top dollar, but buying too cheap can mean sacrificing quality. There are countless high-quality, delicious, wines available for $10-$20 per bottle, so leave the cheap stuff on the bottom shelf! coast alwed d ing . com
