(2) The guiding principles of leadership and integrity include--

It is because God loves that He is just. His justice balances His love and make His acts of both love and justice meaningful. That therefore brings a sense of fairness and satisfaction.

The late Billy Graham tells a story of himself where he was once stopped for driving too fast in a speed zone area. In the court room he pleaded guilty. The judge was not only friendly to him, but was also embarrassed because this judge knew Billy Graham so well. The fine was only ten dollars and if he was to let Billy Graham go, it would have been inconsistent with justice.

It is interesting that when we go through the leadership transitions, the swearing in like the one that has happened to the parliamentarians, they all carry some sort of religious book and majority of them are Christians and so they carry the Bible and swear by it. I wish that beyond carrying that Bible they would just read and apply what is in the Bible.When leadership is noble, then it is about service, selflessness and being a servant.Inour society it has been made a place of gathering wealth, a place of greed and corruption. We see that the Davidic kingdom, though it will seem to come to an end, will reach greater heights through the coming of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. But before then, Micah talks about issues that are really disturbing.
Aconsistent.Godoflove must be a God of justice. It is because God loves that He is a just God. And when it is done well, you have facts on one side and the truth on the other side and you have fairness and then you have a judgement that brings some sort of satisfaction. And that comes from God only.
The theme is judgement and deliverance by God. Micah also stresses that God hates idolatry, injustice, rebellion and empty ritualism. God delights in pardon ing His people when they come to Him in openness. The prophet declares that Zion will have a greater glory in the future and even before and that will only happen if they make amends with God.
The gist is that the LORD will hide His face and will not answer. What distinguishes a righteous leader from a self-seeking leaders?: a. v.1 Justice should be paramount. “Listen, you leaders of Jacob, you rul ers of Israel. Should you not embrace justice,..?”
— They loved that which was not pleasing to God and they were just exploiting people.
b. Loving and practicing what is good versus practicing what is evil This comes by serving people “you who hate good and love evil; who tear the skin from my people and the flesh from their bones; 3 who eat my people’s flesh, strip off their skin and break their bones in pieces; who chop them up like meat for the pan, like flesh for the pot?”
(ii) the declaration of any personal interest that may conflict with public duties; (d) accountability to the public for decisions and actions; and (e) discipline and commitment in service to the people.

My Pulpit Message Notes are extracted from the sermon preached at the Nairobi Baptist Church (NBC) Ngong Road on Sunday 11th September 2022. Preach er: Reverend Majid Ochieng’ NBC Deputy Senior Pastor. Scripture: Micah 3. Topic: Hope of God’s Justice
I couldn’t help but go to the fa mous chapter six of the constitution of Kenya where we talk about values and ethics:
The book of Micah is largely a book that deals with matters of justice and fairness. The prophecy of Micah attests to Micah’s deep sensitivity to the social ills of his day, especially as they affected the small towns and villages of his homelands (the Micah’sunderprivileged).messagealternated between or acles of doom and hope. Doom because of the consequences of not honouring God and therefore God’s judgement will come. And hope on the other side is that if there is a reconciliation, then God will love and fairness continues to give His people hope.
We only have to look up to God where there are facts on one side and there is a judgement to be made on the other side and God applies His love and when He applies His love, even we who we are supposed to have been condemned, because of the love of God, we can be called the children of God.
If the religious class are after those that butter their bread you cannot speak the truth especially when the truth hurts. There will be a compromise. That is one of the things that Micah condemns.
i. Power - Clearly the power of God. God has given him the strength to perse vere in the face of opposition and discouragement.

b. They are enlightened by the LORD and saw their visions are not darkened. “Therefore night will come over you, without visions, and darkness, without div ination.The sun will set for the prophets, and the day will go dark for them.”
c. They are commended for their close walk with God. Vs 7 “The seers will be ashamed and the diviners disgraced. They will all cover their faces because there is no answer from God.”
Micah mentions four spiritual resources that God has given him to speak the truth:
a. They are motivated by the truth rather than personal gain. V 5 “5 This is what the Lord says: “As for the prophets who lead my people astray, they proclaim ‘peace’ if they have something to eat, but prepare to wage war against anyone who refuses to feed them.”We see that even the religious leaders / the church is not left behind in the times of Micah.
God’s judgement will come whether it is to the political class, or even the church, because we are supposed to operate by the Word of God in the Bible which has issues of fairness, love, truth.

- But if there is not change on our side, the consequences are quite severe.

and there were primarily about three types; first, the episcopal model, where you have a bishop who gives the leadership to the church. Second was pres bytery church governance where it is primarily done by the elders and that is where presbyterian church derives its name from, so elders play a central role in the church governance. Another was congregational where major decisions are made by the church members, whether it is in AGM or SGM. Those were the main ones.

Where we are I pray that God will be gracious to us, but also where I am/we are we will continue to pray for our nation and will not tire to pray that God will have mercy / grace on our nation. That God will look at us with His love so that if there is something that has hap pened that is not right, it is not too difficult for you to change, because God can.
- How can we expect good governance out of what we have across the political divide?
- May the LORD have mercy on us as a nation. May the LORD also have mercy on us as a church, i.e. you and I. I pray that the nation of Kenya, as we come to God in prayer that God by His grace will turn things around for the glory and honour of His name. That we will continue to hold hands together as a brother and sister, that we will continue to look at issues of fairness that they will find themselves at the centre of the discourse of this nation in the name of God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
The day the political class in this country Kenya will take this chapter six of our constitution seriously, then I prophesy that Kenya will be a great nation. It is sad that if you look at our parliament today nearly a third of them have either active court cases, some of which are murder, but those are the ones that have found themselves into the leadership of this nation. And there we are hoping that something good will come out of them. Chances are, the laws and legisla tions that they are likely to make is to protect themselves.
Micah says, leaders and the political class, be very carefully about issues of value, integrity, respect, not taking advantage of others. When you do so then you will have the ear of God.
- The consequences in the book of Micah was that Jerusalem was going to be destroyed and indeed that prophecy came to pass when Babylon destroyed Je rusalem in 586 BC.
ii. The Spirit of the Lord. In the O.T. one mark was that when the Spirit of God was on you then you are able to go without fear or favour. But today, may God have mercy even on His church.
We see that they will not be seeing, or hearing from God. But those that are true to the calling are true to the Word of God and speak the Word of God without fear, or favour.
Unfortunately in our country (Kenya) it looks like a force to be reckoned with especially in the political leadership you may need to have some scandals here and there and the bigger the scandal, the more popular they become. May God have mercy on us.
d. The are empowered to proclaim, sometimes the unpopular Word of God. V 8, “But as for me, I am filled with power, with the Spirit of the Lord, and with justice and might, to declare to Jacob his transgression, to Israel his sin.
Sad today there is another one I have seen that has cropped up, and it is a private business kind of church governance where you see church leaders are authority to themselves, they are the sole signatories of their bank accounts, they are an swerable to no one, they can do whatever they want and that has creeped into our society
As scary as it was in proclaiming the coming judgement, in the following verses Micah continues with a glimpse into the future and a glimpse of home. That if you repent, God will judge you fairly. That glimpse of hope is that if you come to God and say, ‘I am wrong’, God takes that truth and God forgives and restores.I
and says, watch out. God’s judgement will definitely come if you do not follow the principles of God.
What distinguishes a faithful prophet of the LORD who shepherds God’s peo ple? That basically is that they have the truth and they are preaching the Word of God without fear or favour.

about Jesus Christ is worth emulating. By asking myself what would Jesus do? It reminds me that, whereas I am prone to do the wrong things and even try to justify my actions, as a Christian, I should be Christlike. And there fore, what would Jesus do in matters physical, social, emotional, spiritual?
Everywhere Jesus went, He had compassion on people and helped them. He healed the sick and fed the hungry. He touched the untouchables they were made whole. In spiritual disciplines, Jesus rose up early in the morning, usually went to a secluded area and prayed to the Father. I therefore, in copying Jesus, ought to help those in need, pray not only for myself, but also for others as well as He did in John 17.
I was careful with every step I took. The market was dirty, slippery, and the sky murky the day after it had rained heavily. This is the usual state of the open air market where I buy groceries and really needed food to feed the family for the next couple of weeks. So I could not wait until the ground gets drier.

As soon as I had passed her, I heard a whisper, ‘you should have helped her. Though she looked bigger, heavier, older, and untouchable, you really should have offered a helping hand.’
Previous experience taught me to make every effort to ensure I did not fall on the black, slippery terrain as I moved from one mama mboga to the next. Sooner than later, right next to me, one of the ladies carrying her stuff perhaps looking for a spot to fix herself slid and fell. Immediately I muttered, ‘woi pole sana’ (Oh really so sorry) and moved on. I could hear the other women laugh, and they were seated and did not move an inch to help. It was as if this was a common occurrence in the market during such seasons.
The apostle Paul encouraged the Ephesian church in Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” He then continues in the next chapter in 5:1-2 “Follow God’s ex ample, therefore, as dearly loved children 2 and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to EverythingGod.”

I ought to copy Christ’s humility. Philippians 2:5-8 tells us, “Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, as He already existed in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself by taking the form of a bond-servant and being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Him self by becoming obedient to the point of death: death on a cross.”

I moved too on as if nothing had happened. It is at this point that I heard the rebuke, ‘you should have helped her up.’ Then I remembered the parable of the Good Samaritan that Jesus taught his disciples. I bit my lip for not helping even as I asked myself, ‘What would Jesus have done?’
What about when I am not sure what to do, or how Jesus would have behaved in a certain situation? Well, James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” After all, Luke 2:52 says, “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man. May we strive to be like Jesus in every area of our lives. Amen.
Those at the market wore gumboots and raincoats with sellers busy calling out to woo buyers to purchase their foodstuffs. Buyers crossed each others paths, each one seemingly knowing where to spot their favourite mama mboga from whom they purchase their fruits and vegetables. Today, you’re going to have many opportunities to find fault. You can’t stop all the negative thoughts you have about people and situations, but you can stop giving those thoughts life by speaking them out. You can watch what you say by stepping back and reminding yourself that complaining only finds the worst in situations. Don’t give it life.
A faultfinder is defined as “a person given to harsh judgments and to finding faults.” None of us want to wear that label or be around a faultfinder. It’s so easy to see what’s wrong with another person or situations we find ourselves in. There’s no perfect friend, job, church.
Life is filled with imperfections, so we can’t escape the fact that there will be much to criticize. Our natural minds tend to always focus on the negative and it causes us to find fault. It’s interesting that soon after the people of Israel had been freed from slavery in Egypt, they started complaining about their hard ships in the wilderness.
What should you do? The apostle Paul says, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up ac cording to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen” (Ephesians 4:29). Let’s zip up the complaints, stay the course and be grateful to God.
They let the food they had become tired of become more important than their freedom from slavery. God is taking all of us somewhere and like the people of Israel, we have everything we need right now to get where He’s taking us. That’s where the Israelites missed it. They were looking at circumstances.

Establish the ground rules of authenticity
“Hey, do you have those quarterly figures for me?”
Once again, if you emphasize that you are a member of the team, you encourage honest feedback. If you emphasize your title, the feedback you receive will likely be less than candid. People want to please the boss. But they will be more open with someone who is authentically seen as a team mate.
How to overcome the trouble with titles…
None of this is to suggest that you should fake humility, to deny your position in the organization, or to pretend that your level of authority carries no weight. Just remember, that the more you emphasize your title, the more problems you will often encounter.
So learn to manage the tension between the authority you carry, and the need to just get stuff done.
Make it clear at the outset that the environment is safe for candor. And mean it.

The study of 2,500 users showed that 49% of participants aimed to change the opinions of others or encourage action, with 68% aiming to give people a better sense of who they are and what they care about.
This phenomenon, known as increased subjective knowledge, can alter how people act and affect the decisions they make. Sharing is not a new concept, humans live in social groups and thrive on social interaction — this forms part of human nature.

How does people’s sharing impact what they know or what they think they know? This has been the focus of recent research by Prof. Susan M. Broniarczyk, professor of marketing, and Dr. Adrian Ward, both at McCombs School of Busi ness, University of Texas.
“Our research shows that this new information-sharing environment may also be transforming the way we understand ourselves. When we share information on social media, we aren’t just sharing news — we are also sharing an image of who we are and what we know. Our research shows that the signals our behavior sends to others can influence the way we see ourselves; we begin to see ourselves as we believe we are seen by others.”
Sharing news on social media makes us think we know more than we do
Social media is part of everyday life for over 4.6 billion people worldwide. New research has shown that only 28% of people read everything in an article before they share it on social media.
An estimated 70% of North Americans use social media to connect with each other and share information. In the age of social media with constant access to more information from a wider range and variety of sources, why do people share, and how does it affect them?
The new research, which appears in the Journal of Consumer Psychology, found that simply sharing information gives people confidence, making them feel more knowledgeable about the information shared even if they have only read the headline.
Sharing an article — even without reading it — can increase a person’s self-per ception that they are knowledgeable about the topic, and this is even more true when they share the article with friends.

In the community, the findings may raise concern — sharing articles that have not been read may encourage the spread of fake news and misinformation.
“Given that news sharers gain subjective — not necessarily objective — knowl edge, and these people are likely to further share news, it is possible that they contribute to the spread of false or misleading information,” said Dr. Kim.

How subjective knowledge affects decision making
Next, the researchers gave them a retirement planning exercise, where after re ceiving personal investment portfolio recommendations, they were asked to al locate $10,000 into stocks and/ or bonds.
the researchers asked the participants if they had read the article or not. The researchers found that sharing was linked to a higher level of subjective knowledge even if students had not read the article.
In early studies, participants listed articles they had shared on Facebook and how much of each article they had read before sharing. Only 28% of participants described reading the full article before sharing, and 25% admitted to only hav ing read a couple of lines or none at all.
“[P]eople’s inflated sense of personal knowledge could lead to interpersonal conflict; if people on both sides of controversial issues are highly confident in their views, but lack [a] deep understanding of the issues, it may be even more difficult to find common ground,” he pointed out.

Social media is a powerful tool for making people feel more knowledgeable and may have benefits for people’s mental health. “[F]eeling smart can improve self-esteem,” commented Dr. Ward.

In a final study, 300 participants were asked to read an article about investing for beginners before being assigned to either share it on their personal Facebook profile or not.
In a number of studies, scientists investigated the impact of “sharing without reading” and its effect on subjective knowledge, meaning what people think they know, and objective knowledge — what people actually know.
“[I]f people do not read what they share, they may be more likely to share fake news without even realizing it […] [P]eople feel more knowledgeable about what they share, [and] sharing news on social media may cause people to become more entrenched in their views — even if these views are primarily supported by fake news or misinformation. When we feel like we already know about a topic, we are less likely to try to learn or read more about the topic — so people who share fake news may be less likely to encounter new information that challenges their existing beliefs.”
“Feeling more knowledgeable than we really are may have harmful consequenc es not just for people’s personal behavior, but also for the ability to communicate with others and function as a society,” Dr. Ward told us.
