TERRANCE & THE WONDER RIVER A Story project created by
The Moon is a reminder That daily you should Wonder, Trapped inside it’s moony beams, The question that you’ll need... I wonder? I wonder? It’s radiates I wonders. So seek it out, And catch them all. Go see where I wonder leads...
But that morning something was wrong...
Mr. Tim and Mr .Oliver travelled the world with Terrance the Wonder-Mouse, seeking out incredible wonders. But that morning their heads were completely empty... Terrance knew that something was wrong. “Squeek, squeek SQUEEK!..” (translates into the moon is BROKEN!) No moon, no wonders! Terrance pointed his nose at the map. The River Usk, flowing through Newport from the hills to the sea. Carrying ships and fish. Snow melt and ideas. A secret source of wonder... If Terrance could fill his moon hoover with it’s wonders, that would fix the moon. Mr Tim and Mr Oliver set out with Terrance to find some help. A group of children who had drunk the wonder river, bathed in its water, swam in it - surely they could help.?

Terrance’s Guide to Starting a Wonder Adventure
Use a Cloak to: Quickly transform yourself. Air in or air out? What is your new name? What are your super powers? Where have you been? What have you done?
1
Use a patch to: Seek what is there already. What changes will you make? What story have you discovered? Who are you going to tell it to?
2
Use a strange object to:
Wonder not what it is, but what it could possibly be... Who did it belong to? What story is it part of? When was it found?

“Terrance and the Wonder River” was a project commissioned by Newport City Homes and delivered by Thrift. It took place in Somerton, Lliswery and Ringland primary schools in Autumn 2016 aimed at raising the aspirations of the children involved. Each class experienced a high impact day of immersive storytelling, music and curiosity driven workshops, delivered by experienced artist educators Tim Godwin and Oliver Wallace. At its heart was the statement: “I wonder is the start to and adventure.” Using a ‘just enough structure’ approach the children were inspired to feel that no question was to small to ask and that curiosity, boldness, collaboration and a sense of joy could lead to unexpected and valuable outcomes. The source of wonder being the river Usk allowed the children’s location to feel special, making them the experts whose help we relied on.
