Our lives and professions can sometimes come full circle when we see what counts, connecting our accomplishments to communal activism.
Dr. Timothy Martinez had a preconceived notion of what his life would be like after starting his undergraduate pre-dental studies at the University of Southern California (USC). He later enrolled at Harvard School of Dental Medicine, opened a private practice there, and started creating community-based oral health initiatives to assist the underprivileged and disenfranchised. His plans for what he would do when he got back to the Los Angeles region were shattered.
He explains, "I imagined having a successful orthodontics practice in Beverly Hills. "I was mistaken. I learned from USC to support my neighborhood and push myself to be a change agent."
