Frapetsus Theatre presents
Not About Heroes
Saturday 7 November at 7.30pm Stephen MacDonald’s moving and intriguing play tells the story of the friendship formed between World War I poets Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen during their time together at Craiglockhart Hospital for nervous diseases. When Owen died in 1918, aged twenty five, just before the end of the Great War, only five of his poems had been published, yet he was to become one of the most significant poets of the twentieth century. Most of his war poems are based on his experiences in front line service in what was said to be the worst winter France had known for forty years. Few would challenge the claim that he was one of the greatest writers of war poetry, encapsulating as he did the physical and mental anguish of those terrible personal experiences. It was when he was sent to the Craiglockhart Hospital for nervous diseases that he met the already published poet, Siegfried Sassoon and his influence and friendship was to have an enduring impact on Owen and his work. The play chronicles this relationship and includes extracts from their letters and poems which as Owen himself says are about “war and the pity of war”. Tickets Tocynnau £9 Concessions Consesiynau £7
