We have some exciting new things to tell you about - after many years of producing music projects we have decided that the time has come to launch our own record label. bendigedig launches this month in partnership with ARC Music Productions International Limited and we’re delighted to let you know that our first release will be the beautiful new album ‘Tro’ from Gwyneth Glyn which releases worldwide on 29 September. We’ve also just launched a new app for iphone and IOS, so now you can keep all of our events and our latest news right at your fingertips. JOnATHAn AnDERSOn PyLOn TOTEMS

Anderson’s work aligns metaphysical ideas with industrial materials: coal, bitumen, sand and soil are regularly used. Often sculptural, his works are simultaneously malignant and beautiful. Pylon Totems, cloaked in rags and bitumen, make pan-cultural references that allude to Crucifixes, Asian Buddhist statues, South American and African voodoo dolls. Yet the inspiration came from the many hundreds of electricity pylons that criss-cross the landscape of Wales. The work functions as a meditative tool to contemplate contemporary issues of ecology, religion and politics. Mae gwaith Anderson yn alinio syniadau metaffisegol gyda deunyddiau diwydiannol: caiff glo, bitwmen, tywod a phridd eu defnyddio’n aml. Yn fynych yn gerfluniol, mae ei weithiau yn faleisus ac yn hardd ar yr un pryd. In Simon Fenoulhet’s work, light is often the medium and sometimes the subject but always the main consideration. Often using readymade objects and materials, Fenoulhet’s art is a reworking of the everyday, finding unexpected visual properties in objects. We have grown accustomed to high levels of illumination in our homes and places of work but this work demonstrates the artist’s interest in the ability of light to reveal unusual things about the world. CANALETTO & the art of Venice

EXHIBITION ON SCREEN opens its fifth season with Canaletto & the Art of Venice, an immersive journey into the life and art of Venice’s famous view-painter. No artist better captures the essence and allure of Venice than Giovanni Antonio Canal, better known as Canaletto. The remarkable group of over 200 paintings, drawings and prints on display offer unparalleled insight into the artistry of Canaletto and his contemporaries, and the city he became a master at capturing. The film also offers the chance to step inside two official royal residences - Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle – to learn more about the artist, and Joseph Smith, the man who introduced Canaletto to Britain. The EAST POINTERS The East Pointers hail from Canada’s Prince Edward Island and feature banjoist/ vocalist/step-dancer Koady Chaisson, fiddle player/vocalist Tim Chaisson, and guitarist/vocalist Jake Charron. The cousins Chaisson are part of the sixth generation of heralded fiddlers from PEI. When Jake visited the island, a Canadian late-night kitchen party was sure to follow with fiddles and friends, guitars, Guinness and banjos. As their trunk of original and traditional tunes and songs started to fill up, the trio put them to tape and took to the road. The result is The East Pointers, who released their debut album Sweet Victory in 2015 and have been touring the world almost constantly since then. In early 2017 they won a JUNO Award for best roots album in Canada for Sweet Victory. Their new album will be released in Autumn 2017. A CRAWL DOWN THE OGRE Mountaineer Doug Scott CBE, will be telling a tale of hard climbing and survival that has now become part of mountaineering folklore. Whilst the highpoint of his mountaineering collaboration with Chris Bonington was the first ascent of Everest by its enormous SW Face, their greatest adventure was undoubtedly on The Ogre. Their subsequent descent in darkness immediately became an epic. Doug broke both legs just above the ankles. A storm blew in lasting five days, during which time Chris smashed his ribs and contracted pneumonia. It took eight hard days to reach Base Camp. It was 24 years before The Ogre was climbed again. Proceeds from the talk will support reconstruction of Community Action Nepal’s projects in Nepal. The corruption of innocence is at the heart of Verdi’s potent tragedy in David McVicar’s production for The Royal Opera. Rigoletto, court jester to the libertine Duke of Mantua, is cursed by the father of one of the Duke’s victims for his irreverent laughter. When the Duke seduces Rigoletto’s daughter Gilda, it seems the curse is taking effect. Giuseppe Verdi wrote in 1855 that Rigoletto was his ‘best opera’. He had to overcome state censorship to stage it – the censors objected to its depiction of an immoral ruler – but he was vindicated by the premiere’s huge success in 1851. Tosca is one of the great evenings of opera, and from its strident opening chords conjures up a world of political instability and menace. Jonathan Kent’s production for The Royal Opera captures the dangerous political turbulence of Rome in 1800. This handsome production throws into relief the ruthlessly taut drama, as the tension is wound up towards a fateful conclusion. Puccini’s meticulously researched score is infused with the same authentic detail, from distant cannon fire during the Act I Te Deum to tolling church bells and the sounds of a firing squad. Tosca remains one of the most performed of all operas – with its gripping plot and glorious music, it’s easy to see why. Carmen is the best-known work by French composer Georges Bizet, and one of the most famous operas in the entire art form – numbers such as the Habanera and the Toreador Song have permeated the popular consciousness as little else has. This everpopular opera is given a fresh point of view in Barrie Kosky’s highly physical production. The Australian director is one of the world’s most sought-after opera directors. For Carmen he has devised a far fromtraditional version, incorporating music written by Bizet for the score but not usually heard, and giving a new voice to the opera’s endlessly fascinating central character. Double-laureate at both the 2015 Hamamatsu and 2014 ARD International Competitions, Romanian-born British pianist Florian Mitrea was a prize-winner at the 2016 RNCM’s James Mottram and Verona International Competitions. He has performed at King’s Place, St John Smith Square, Colston Hall, and abroad at the Bavarian Radio, Seoul Arts Centre, Bunka Kaikan Hall in Tokyo and the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest. He has played with the Philharmonia in London, Collegium Musicum in Basel, and George Enescu Philharmonic in Bucharest. He is also a highly-experienced chamber musician. BBC Radio 3 have recently broadcast his Dartington-Festival recital with violinist Chloë Hanslip. This recital will provide a luxurious showcase of some of the greatest composers of piano music. He was particularly associated with Jerome Robbins, their credits together including Fancy Free and West Side Story. To celebrate the centenary year of the composer’s birth, The Royal Ballet has united all three of its associate choreographers to celebrate the dynamic range and danceability of Bernstein’s music.
