Constructing Environments ENVS10003 Semester 2 2014 A01-Logbook Week 8 : Openings Studio Report

This week is the detailing drawing on a A1 sheet. My section is the Function Room Roof North 01. The sketches are shown below are the main structure in this section.

This Z-Sections purlins is a cold framed steel and classified as secondary member in order to connect between the ceilings and insulation.

The parallel flange channel is used as lintel for carrying loads since there is a window below. This is classified as primary members and the material for making this is steel. The sawn timber is shown below.

The material that is using for the roofing system is the plywood. By coating them, it is much easier to protect the roof from the damage from natural environments like rainfall and other weather factors.

Learning Loop Openings: allow light and ventilation. It can access in and out and can

contribute views and character. Doors: 3 different types of doors. Normal swinging down, folding doors and sliding doors. It is important to a theatre since it contributes an entering and exiting. Doorstep: can prevents wind from getting in and tend to be a little gap between when the door is inserted and which is covered by an architrave. Sill: it allows any water that lands on it to drip and run under the door. Frames: timber, steel, aluminum Timber doors: may be hinged internally to the door tray edge and architrave Steel doors and frames: is often used with other kinds of materials.

Windows: is sill at a base over hangs the concrete wall that is being inserted into. It is often a steel beam over the top of carry load of both the floor and roof. Hybrid type of windows- Curtain Walls: is still a wall system. Window system hung off the concrete structure of the building and can carry its own loads and transfer back to the structure.

Glass: the basic ingredients are formers which is any chemical compound that can be melted and cooled. Fluxes help the formers to melt at particular temperature (normally lower and more practical). Stabilizers are combined with formers and fluxed in oder to keep the finished glass away from dissolving or crumbling. There are different types of glass, such as flat glass and another one is shaped glass. For the flat glass, is the typically sheets of clear or tinted float, wired and laminated etc. For the shaped glass, the examples are tubes, fibres, blocks and channels etc.

Glossary Window Sash: can be any windows but normally a double hung window that with vertically and horizontally sliding sash.

Deflection: is the bending of a structural member as a result of its own weight or an applied load.

Moment of Inertia: when considering structural members, it is the product of each element of mass times the square of the distance from an axis.

Stress: pressure or tension exerted on a material object.

Door Furniture: designed for use on the doors such as locks, handles, etc.

Shear Force: is a force acting on a body which tends to slide one portion of the body against the other side of the body.
