THE SOLICITOR
When this journalist was arrested on trumped up charges, the doctor recommended a solicitor attend. She did and called Walker McDonald as she already knew the Walker partner. The McDonald part was a seemingly charming old gentleman who promised her the “best legal” team. She ended up Hyde Bank Prison for seven weeks. She should have smelt a rat then, as he stood by and watched, and even gave an interview to the press the next day, boasting that he knew someone who spent part of her life in Spain. Many people spend part of their lives in Spain.
As the case progressed, she became more and more suspicious that nothing was being done. When her friend finally got her released to lovely Larne and the Simon Community, he thought his work was done. However, he did make her spend money twice driving to Armagh and Craigavon. Where did he think she got the money from. Obviously she was wealthy, as she could afford to live in Spain for part of the year. Surely she could afford an hotel and a few tanks of petrol for her car? “Counsel wants to meet you” he said, then “Counsel” proceeded to tell this journalist that she was “silly”for fighting back. She should have smelt a rat when the said solicitor said “it was normal practice to give only 11 pages of an 18 page transcript from the interview”. No it is not, she argued. Then realised that the damning evidence against them was in the last seven pages. The story continues. Meanwhile, you can read the first book “The Belfast Money Machine” on Amazon.
