Introduction… GeTIN2…. are a series of courses that have been specifically created for people with a learning disability. All the courses offer something for everyone and promise to be fun and enjoyable. . GeTIN2… courses offer the following benefits: • To assist social interaction, communication and the development of personal skills. • To raise a person’s self-esteem and give us all a sense of pride and achievement. • To introduce us to new methods of expressing emotion and communicating meaning. • To meet others in ‘shared space’ and to interact with them in comfortable environments. • To provide us with the opportunity and access to be physically active and creative - important aspects of our personal development both mentally and physically. The GeTIN2… courses are an important new step towards using the arts and sport to challenge, excite and stimulate people to lead fitter, more creative, inspiring lives. It is a specialist service and we want to find passionate, dynamic and energetic people to join us on an adventurous journey! What courses are available… GeTIN2arts combines drama, music and dance to create one course that allows all talents to flourish. GeTIN2dance concentrates on dance as an artform and explores how to use dance to keep fit, be expressive and perform for peers. The Flex Dance Apprenticeship is a 2 year course and supports those with ability and talent to further their skills as well as share their work on a national scale. As well as covering artform skills it also explores employment and project planning skills. (from April 2011) GeTIN2sport explores a variety of physical activities involving individual and team games in partnership with the Community Sport team at Durham University. All courses are based in County Durham and each day starts at 9.30am, finishing at 3.30pm. All courses run for 36 weeks a year. Who can join a course? The courses are for anybody aged 16 and above. All activity is adapted to meet the needs of the individuals. The programme aims to meet the social needs as well as the developmental needs of all involved. The courses are ‘pay to attend’. Most people can afford to meet the cost of attending through Direct Payments. That means that a person attending may have a direct payment to pay for their place on the course. Prices start from £44.88 per day per person.
