Call for 80 adult volunteer performers for Prometheus Awakes at Stockton International Riverside Festival 2012 No P r evio u s exp er ien ce r eq u ir ed ! !Prometheus Awakes is a new outdoor spectacle which will be the main performance of the launch event for Stockton International Riverside Festival 2012 (SIRF) Created by Graeae (www.graeae.org) the boldly inventive disabled-led theatre company, in collaboration with Catalan masters of visual magnificence, La Fura dels Bau (www.lafura.com) Prometheus Awakes will be performed initially at the Greenwich +Docklands International Festival (www.festival.org) in June before the spectacular performance at SIRF (www.sirf.co.uk) in Stockton on August 2nd. Prometheus Awakes is the UK’s first ever large-scale outdoor spectacle led by and featuring disabled performers. North East organisations Let’s Circus/ Hang and TIN Arts are leading the recruitment of volunteer performers for what promises to be the most spectacular event of 2012 in our region. We are looking for people who have a willingness to take on an extraordinary journey and be part of an amazing event. You don’t need direct experience of aerial work but you do need to have a real passion for spectacle and curiosity about what you can do! An experience of dance, circus, theatre or sports could be useful, but is not essential. You will be performing from structures suspended from a crane in a full body harness - this means that you will be fully supported and safe as you fly above the crowds. If you don’t have a head for heights we also need a team of strong people to help animate the giant puppet (see picture on the front of the leaflet). We particularly encourage deaf and disabled people to apply. TIN Arts have been asked to lead on supporting disabled volunteer performers so if you have a disability or specific support needs, please contact TIN Arts directly.
We are calling for volunteer disabled and non-disabled performers aged 18+ who want to become performers and be a part of this amazing extravaganza. Is that you?
For full details on the role and the event, how to apply, auditioning and rehearsals please contact Helen Averley, Let’s Circus (www.letscircus.com / 0191 2462836) or Brooke Brown-Adams at TIN Arts (www.tinarts.co.uk / 0191 384 0728). An opportunity to have-a-go at being suspended in the air at a height will take place on Friday 25th May at Circus Central, Newcastle & Saturday 26th May at ARC in Stockton on Tees. Rehearsals will be mid afternoon/evenings on July 30, 31 and August 1st. The performance itself will take place on Thursday 2nd August in the evening. You need to be available for these dates to apply. If you have any questions please get in touch with either Let’s Circus or TIN Arts now! Prometheus Awakes is produced and commissioned by Greenwich+Docklands International Festival and Graeae Theatre Company. Co-commissioned by Stockton International Riverside Festival.
Prometheus Awakes is part of the London 2012 Festival, a spectacular 12-week nationwide celebration from 21 June and running until 9 September 2012 bringing together leading artists from across the world with the very best from the UK.
