The Art of Participation, 9th May 2013 At Tullie House, Castle St Carlisle, Cumbria CA3 8TP A seminar exploring how participatory arts can improve wellbeing. The seminar is ideal for third sector and public sector organisations looking to develop new creative opportunities for their clients, service users and members, arts organisations looking to reach new diverse audiences, artists looking to develop an awareness of current participatory arts practice and organisations and individuals already delivering arts programmes looking to share good practice. Delegates will engage with current inclusive and participatory arts practice through a series of breakout sessions and artist led workshops focussing on key groups: - older people and dementia - learning disability - drug and alcohol misuse - mental health - working in prisons Delegates will participate in artist led workshops offering an insight into participatory arts delivery methods and concepts. The seminar will include an opportunity to visit the Outside In North West Exhibition and to meet the organisers and artists involved. By attending delegates will gain:

An insight of how participatory arts can benefit their client group.

An understanding of the barriers to engagement and how these can be addressed

· The opportunity to talk directly to the artists who specialise in working with vulnerable people ·

An opportunity to observe best practice through case studies
