The Paradise of United Arab Emirates A place where greenery meets civilization The home of our beloved father An Oasis of modesty A palm tree of Pride The name itself brings optimism Al Ain
EXPLORE, EXPERIENCE, ENGAGE - ALAIN A true destination of distinction. Al Ain is developing at a significant rate while keeping watchful eyes on its intriguing past. Al Ain abounds with compelling heritage sites, engaging attractions and idyllic touches of luxury. Al Ain was once a vital oasis on the caravan route from UAE to Oman, and is the birthplace of Abu Dhabi's ruling Al Nahyan family. Al Ain is the emirate's heritage heartland and one of the oldest continually inhabited settlements and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Al Ain is the soul of the Emirates. Its spirit emerges from the unique conjunction of Jebel Hafeet, the nurturing oasis and the majestic desert. It now exemplifies both the ancient Bedouin traditions and the modern aspirations of the Emirate.
ALAIN FROM A CLOSER VIEW Location: Alain is located south of Dubai; the well-known Pearl of the gulf and Abu Dhabi; the country's capital and source of revenues. Alain; the Green city of loving people is known for its quiet and welcoming atmosphere. Many businessmen reside here because it has this perfect arrangement of facility in everything from houses to people to culture.
Museums: Along with its luscious greenery , thanks to Sheik Zayed, it is also known for having ancient museums such as the Sheik Zayed Palace Museum which was built in 1937 as a palace and then later was reopened as a museum in 2001; that as well as Alain national Museum that opened in 1971!
Climate: Alain has a desert climate. Temperatures can reach as high as 50째C+. Typical Day: So since the weather is usually scorching hot in Alain; people here tend to stay indoors at daytime, Have a lot of family gatherings, order ice-cream from what we call "Dkaan"; which are like little groceries here and there all over the city. Yet in winter season, people go to the deserts with their motorcycles, a little gathering around the fire to keep them warm, and they also make barbeques! In every once in a while people go to "Alain Alfaydah" so they can keep themselves warm by resting in hot water streams.
Natural Land marks: Al-ain is remarkably noticeable because of its wide green areas and huge trees, it's also blessed with many parks and gardens .Alain Paradise ,a Guinness Record holder, is a garden filled with breathtaking flowers. Jebel Hafeet is the highest mountain in the UAE and it can be seen throughout Alain. At nighttime it looks like it’s dressed in zigzagged lights. There's also a hotel at the top of the mountain that is great for tourists. In the foot of the mountain is another outstanding tourist site called Green Mobazara that has everything from hot springs, Green spaces, playgrounds, chalets and even multiple air-conditioned tents.
Traditional Food: Most dishes in UAE contain things like rice, fish and meat, Camel’s milk is also given to little kids. -Machboos: is a very popular dish cooked in a large pot. It consists of rice and meat, seasoned with spices, salt and dried lemon called Loomy. -Harees: is a very ancient dish that consists of small pieces of meat. This dish is eaten at any time but particularly during the Holy Month of Ramadan. -Mohalla: flat bread with honey and date syrup, its breakfast favorite. -Fareed: is a meat and vegetable stew, poured over pieces of very thin bread and served immediately. The stew base can also be made from chicken or lamb with vegetables such as carrots and potatoes. This dish is eaten every evening during Ramadan.
A DAY OUT IN Al-AIN (History and new horizon views) Morning: Become immersed in Al Ain's history by visiting its many forts. First head to the impressive Al Jahli Fort-birthplace of the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Next head to landscaped garden in Al Ain's eldest fort- Muraijib Fortbuilt in 1816. The more adventurous may cross the Omani border into Buraimi to explore Hilli
Afternoon: Al Ain National Museum is varied enough to take up a full afternoon. Start your tour with a look through the archaeology section, which contains several artifacts. Next head to the museum's gifts section to see a collection of gifts given to the late Sheikh Zayed. End with ethnography section which has a huge collection of Bedouin jewelry, musical instruments, weapons and a reconstruction of a traditional majlis.
Evening: Wander through the ancient Al Ain Oasis and feel the cares of the world drain away. Be cooled by the wafting palms and see the traditional falaj irrigation system in action. Let your imagination take you back to the days when this was one of the most welcome sights on the silk route.

The story of an under-cover volunteer‌..
Within the green city and spacious streets, in a small neighborhood road, there exists a home with walls eroded through time, a rusted door , dirty clothes, hunger, poverty and pain . In that house live young children, and senior elders. The children are illiterate . No one knows their situation but God. KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK *They hear a knock, they race up to the door and there stands Um Alaa'a with food, money and furniture to provide the poor with their needs, help them find work and draw a beautiful bright smile on their hungry, poor faces. She is a volunteer who loves helping people and has been doing it for 6 years!, driving along streets and roads to help the poor through generous donations.
Um Ala'a is a Palestinian woman. She was born in Kuwait but has been living in UAE/alain for 30 years. Um Ala'a has three children who are living in Jordan. Um Ala'a is a volunteer who loves helping people, she started volunteering 5 or 6 years ago.
Um Alaa'a was introduced to us in class where we asked her a few questions to know more about her volunteer work.
“Seeing the smile on people’s face when they receive my help tears me up every time”
Among the different roles in the community.... What made you think of working as a volunteer ? “Seeing my father’s passion for helping others, I followed in his footsteps and started my own charity work by helping people from my own money and delivering what I can offer in my car to those in need”.
How do you provide them with their needs? I collect donations from people and charities, food from weddings and feasts to pass them to the poor. Sometimes, I find it very tough to collect money and food , while on other times it is as easy as a piece of cake. My success come from Allah.
Where did you actually find these families? * sarcastically* Poor people are all around the world and through life experience I have got to know and meet those.
You are a wife and a mother of 3 kids , how does your work encourage your kids ? Actually, neither my husband nor my kids live near, they have moved to Jordan years ago. I hide my work from my family kids and husband. Knowing that the under covered work is better than the announced one.
While practicing your job, you have absolutely seen a lot of tears and smiles. Tell me about one of the most memorable experiences… “I was at a celebration in Alsheikha Amna centre, when the mother of one of the families I was helping called me complaining about having no food in the house for the visit of her daughter’s fiancé and his family, so once the celebration was over, I took the augments of rice, meat, and chicken, and I directly took it to their house. The mother was shocked and so grateful that she started crying, and I couldn’t help but cry with her!”
Do you volunteer in a specific month like (Ramadan) or at all months? All months, whenever I have something to help with help immediately.
There are a lot of charity organizations in the UAE like the " Red Crescent" .... so who are you supported by? I am supported by God in first place, some fellow volunteers, the people that offer donations and my old rusty dying car which drives me through to deliver the donations.
How do you feel when you offer them help? “I feel overwhelmed whenever I help people but I don’t like showing it; that is because I don’t want to brag and get blinded by arrogance”
What are your goals for the future? Continue volunteering, but maybe I will have to stop volunteering because my car has been damaged.
Did you convert somebody to Islam? “During the time I was a teacher at Al Muraijeb School, I have talked a lot about Islam and its beauty, which caused many of the Ethiopian workers there to convert to it!. They also made an assembly in which they interviewed one of the now-Muslim maids where she talked about how different and comforting Islam is!”
What do you think of yourself? I am a queen, I always keep myself busy and keep saying yes!
Has the volunteer changed your life or your personality? It takes all my time sometimes. When I help people and I see them thankful and praying for me I feel glad and happy. I have learned a lot of lessons from this job; I don’t want to talk about it a lot because if I want to gain God’s blessings I have to do it secretly.
What is the social status of the poorest family you helped? There is one particular made up of 10 members living in a small house. They have 3 boys and 5 girls and the father has 2 wives. They don’t have anything to eat and none of them is working. They are desperate for money. This family when they ask me for anything I can get it to them, they are blessed.
WELL DONE
UAE!
Huge congratulati ons to the UAE sq uad on their 2-1 win over Iraq at Bahrain’s Natio nal Stadium in Manama. The re sult saw them secu re the country’s second Gulf Cup title in si x years and saw HH Sheikh Kh alifa grant AED50 million to the team. A special mention goes out to Al Ain ’s very own Omar Abdulrahm an who not only g ot the opening goal in th e final, but was ho nored to receive the best p layer tournament award!
MUHANNAD Al ENEZI Pride It’s a great honor and pride for me to be among the team of Al Ain Club. Especially that of Al Ain Club is a great club and is an owner of many tournaments . Five years has already passed since joining the team. First Appearance All initially starts difficult and a little confusing but I received considerable support by the public , especially after we won the Sharjah Club four goals to none . Role Model I see Abo Trika as my role model to what he has from high moral character. He is very talented and modest. Support I never forget , of course, the huge family support . They earn credit in giving me a batch forward to the development of talent. Dreams and Aspirations Everyone dreams and has ambitions, some may succeed in achieving them or maybe not. My dream was to complete my studies in the university, but unfortunately, I had to choose between my passion for football, my commitment to the team and furthering my education. Now my aspiration is to win the Asian Cup. Stress Before any match a lot of psychological, moral pressure and stress dominates the players. The player becomes very nervous and tense, but the psychiatrist helps us a lot to regain our strength.
Advice My children and my family are the most important thing in my life and the best for my children is that they complete their studies first! Laughs and giggles In Al Ain club, we are one family and we have a friendly and a strong relationship. We meet and sit together a lot, sharing conversation with loud laughters and memorable jokes. Best Moment The joy of winning the Gulf Cup 21 has not only delighted the team, but it has expanded to the whole universe; people and public. The Royal meeting After winning the Gulf Cup 21, the team flied on a flied private jet to return to the UAE and meet his Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed who congratulated us for the awesome win. His joy of meeting us was ‌‌ Retirement It is still too early to retire now, but I think that after my retirement I may want to become a coach The Toughest The Super Match two years ago in 2009 was one of the toughest matches, but the joy of winning then wiped away all the fuss and fatigue.

Oh no! The scarf is just un-fashionable, and the dress doesn’t look flattering at all. We need to work on this.
We loved Buthaina’s look! The slightly glittered skirt and the chiffon top made her look as elegant and classy as possible.

Barbara
Islam is both a religion and a complete way of life. Muslims follow a religion of peace, mercy, and forgiveness. God the one and only God, the first, and the last. He is the one who deserves all worship.
Barbara is a western woman. She converted to Islam when she married Ali the Emirati man. When Barbara got married she came to live in UAE with her husband ali.
What did you feel when you converted to Islam? The first year was the toughest for me. I had to dress differently, act differently, but I always calmed myself down. Actually I was a very social person but everything changed. I can't talk to people the way I used to talk to them ,especially guys. I also had to change myself and the way I was thinking. What was your friend’s reaction when they saw that you became a Muslim? A lot of my friends didn't want to be my friends anymore when I became a Muslim. So I realized this time who my real friends were. What did you learn from Emirati life? I learned many things but I guess each family is different. But all I could say is that Alhamdulillah that you're living in an Islamic country. I have experienced the life outside and there is nothing to make you wish to be a western or anything you're so blessed to be a Muslim and to be in a country that girls are protected and you guys are living in this way it's much better life than living in a west.
How was life in south Africa compared by UAE? It was different in south Africa. It is normal for us to have relations with boys but you can have a boy as a best friend, and it not seen as something more. Here though, it is very different. What was your personality before being an Muslim and did it change? My personality didn’t change that much, I’m still the same person. I just change the way I speak and act. Are you impressed with Islam? Yes, I’m so impressed with Islam. Allah know every thing in the future. He knew what will be. We are diamonds so Allah wants to protect the diamonds, by not showing it to everybody. Do you communicate with your family in Arabic? No, actually I speak to them in English. Did anyone from your family convert to Islam because of you? No, we had a Greek tradition, and our way of life is very different.
How did your family react when you convert to Islam? They disowned me for 4 years, they didn’t want to speak to me, but after about 4 years, my father came to the UAE, and saw the way how I’m living. What were you feeling when you first wore the Hijab? It was very difficult, but the more I wear it, the more I feel protected and safe. Once, I saw a women in south Africa wearing Abaya and she looked like an angel of death to me, I was really scared so I waked away.
Living a healthier life can not only extend your life, it can also improve the quality. Feeling physically better and having control over your own life can greatly increase your mental health as well. Although there are some aspects of physical and mental health that are beyond an individual's (and science's) control, there are many things that people can do to improve their quality of life. You Are What You Eat: 1. Find Your Motivation What is motivating you to lose weight? Do you want to look better in your clothes, feel more energetic, or simply improve your health? Get clear about what you want, and then use that to inspire you throughout your journey. 2.Make Goals Goals help measure progress. If you don't know where you want to end up, you won't really know how to get there. When making your goals, you need to make SMART goals: Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Timely For example, a SMART goal would be something like, "I will walk for 15 minutes 3 days for one week." Or, "I will prepare one new healthy recipe each week for the month of April.
Eat Breakfast Every Day Surely you've heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It is! Eat a big healthy breakfast as early as possible. It will give you more energy, lead you to make healthier choices during the day, and keep you feeling full so you eat less later on. Fill Up on Vegetables Vegetables are filled with nutrients, water, fiber, and very few calories. If you fill half of your plate with vegetables, you'll get fuller faster and cut down your calories without feeling deprived. Use herbs and spices to jazz up vegetables instead of using butter and/or salt to flavor them.
Stay Hydrated Exercise : In order to burn calories at a faster rate and build a healthy body, you'll need to incorporate exercise into your life. Take it slow at first, and then increase your time and/or intensity once you feel comfortable. If you haven't exercised in a while, talk to your doctor to make sure that you are healthy enough to begin an exercise plan.
Take It Slow : A major mistake many people make when trying to tackle a health resolution is trying to do everything at once. This is almost always a recipe for disaster. Spend a few weeks just trying to achieve 1-2 goals at a time. When you have established new good habits, put a couple more goals on your plate. Remember: You want to make permanent changes, and these will take time to implement. Be Prepared for Lapses A lapse is when you temporarily "fall off the wagon." This is a normal part of the process; no one is perfect. It is important for you to take a moment to recognize that you got sidetracked, but don't use it as an excuse to throw in the towel. Every day is a new chance to start over, so return to your healthy lifestyle immediately.
Bedtime Go to bed and get up at the same time every day, even on weekends, holidays and days off. Being consistent reinforces your body's sleep-wake cycle and helps promote better sleep at night. There's a caveat, though. If you don't fall asleep within about 15 minutes, get up and do something relaxing. Go back to bed when you're tired. If you agonize over falling asleep, you might find it even tougher to nod off.
