name / age / occupation / residence / marital status / hobbies / describe a good night out /

/ jamila / 21 / full-time student at the university of sydney, casual retailer. / ultimo student accomodation / single / creative writing, debating, public speaking, hockey / drinks and food by the water, relaxing night with a possibility to move the night into more dancing and entertainment. unfortunately there aren’t many places to do that

/ george / 52 / retired chef / pyrmont; facing anzac bridge / married / painting, baking and keeping fit / being able to have dinner and then sit down and relax with my wife along the harbours edge will always be the best way to spend a night out. the blackwattle bay edge has so much potential

/ tannika / 24 / full-time single mother and a part-time PR representative / glebe / single / jewellry making, pattern making, and drawing / i want to be able to show my son how beautiful sydney can be during the night so going to a night restaurant with a view with my son would be a good night out to me

/ robert / 32 / full-time graphic designer in the city / glebe; just down glebe point road / in a relationship of five years / printmaking and reading / i really enjoy going to unique places with cultural relevance. my girlfriend and i tend to want to explore new places which also are enjoyable, relaxing, and delicious

Redefining the traditional notion of the marketplace. Arena style architecture provides an outlook and overview of the space. Visual stimulus heightens experience of individual within the space.

Layering brings about the notions of easy circulation and interesting interior design and spatial qualities. Layers create walkability and a multipurpose roof/floor structure in two different levels.

Blackwattle Lane aims to enhance the shopping experience of individuals within the fish market and introduces an evening and night trading life with a sole purpose of connecting the communities and revitalising the Blackwattle Bay edge of the harbour. By enhancing the shopping and user experience, the revival of Sydney’s Fish Market within the crux of Blackwattle Lane will cater to the evident growing population of not only the area but the entirety of Sydney’s population. This new space will boast a fully functional fish market and a mixed use grocery and food outlet into three unique and magnificent cores that and will seemlessly transform into a dining space of quality restuarants, an accessible entertainment and fine art space and a lively edge of the harbour in the evening, thereby providing a night out for the locals and tourists with stunning harbour views. Not only is it providing quality food for the people but it is also a refuge for individuals, families, friends and couples to relax, unwind, converse and reflect through its open and easily accessible space. Accessiblity and spontaniety is key in enhancing user experience, and this design of meandering pathways and magnificant arched roofs and overhangs creates a distinctly unique atmosphere . Movement within the site is guided by a central lane pocketed with unique viewpoints and alleyways. The introduction of a new shuttle bus service, larger pavements, and a separated cycling track, makes getting to and from the market and district easier than its current state and allows people from all areas of Sydney from all realms of life to enjoy and experience the wonders Blackwattle Lane & Markets has to offer.
