CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT I chose polygon as my concept for two reasons. First, polygon only has straight lines and no curve lines. My client expects his market keep the sample and he like clean line design in his market, and customers will pay more attention to products. So, concise style is best for this case. Furthermore, polygon not only has the clean straight line, but it also creative, and give some interesting element to this market. Second, the polygon with many sides and each side has their function with the different meaning. Such as cafe, restaurant, demonstration kitchen, prepared food area and soon. People can be shopping there, eat there and also learn something there as well. Therefore, the polygon means this market is multifunctional. In general, this market is like a polygon; people can get everything they want in different zones, and the design style is related to my client require.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT Interconnectivity will be my main idea of my concept to design this three floors residential house. Interconnectivity refers to the state or quality of being connected. I bring this concept to my project because three individual family groups are living in one house, so the interconnectivity just presents this big family. Furthermore, I also create three specific concepts for each floor. I get inspiration from three cities they are in the different country. A different city with the different feeling, lifestyle, culture, but we still can find the similarity from three cities. Cause the each floor living the individual family, I will base on their needs to do a different design for each family, but I will use my design to connect them as well.

FIRST FLOOR For the first floor, I get inspiration from Yunnan. Yunnan is a province in China. This area is quiet and full of rhythm. There with a lot of Chinese styles architectural and artworks, and this is the right place for the artist to create artwork. I choose this place because it fit my client’s lifestyle. My client who is living alone on the first floor, so he most residing in a more quiet family. However, he is an active and optimistic person, and he is an artist as well. I want to bring the both flexible and rhythm into his space instead of tranquil space, and help he keep a happy life. In Yunnan, we can find a lot of “connect” element in here. Such as the terraced fields, and the Chinese architectural structure, local culture. They are present the connectable in this place. Yunnan enjoys a pleasant climate that is mild in winter and cool in summer; that means here is suitable for human living, and I want to bring this comfortable feeling to my client. Yunnan combined by different nationality, and they are live on friendly, just like this multiple families.

CLIENT A tenant will rent the 1st oor unit from Maria Mariotto. This unit will be rented through San Francisco’s Section 8 and Rental Assistance Program for low-income tenants.

SECOND FLOOR For the second floor, my client Jason he is a single father with twin girls of Chloe and Aimee. Jason is the active person with many hobbies. His girl Chloe is active girl person as well, and she spots and traveling. However, Aimee has cerebral palsy, and she spends most time at the time. I want to create a space to this family is more tend to lively and full of rhythm. That is fit to Jason and Chloes personality, and I also want Aimee will not fell too much at the time. Therefore, I get inspiration from the city of Tokyo and Japanese style interior design. I chose Tokyo as my concept, because it is a vibrant city, and their culture is diverting and diversified. Furthermore, the Japanese style of interior design is more tend to comfortable and practical. Cause the Aimee she uses wheelchair at home, I need to do more consider based on her need, and space will be designed good for her use.

THIRD FLOOR For the third floor, space combines the dwelling space, office space, and include the three bedrooms. Based on my client’s needs, this floor needs a quiet space for Maria to work and Simona to study. However, Simona is actively involved in sports and plays the guitar. And the Maria also keep enthusiasm for life to like to have the garden for her plant. Therefore, I like to design a space just like Amsterdam that cozy and passionate as well. On the other hand, the Frank is Italian American, and Amsterdam and Italy all Europe county. They are with similarity, and still have a different feeling. I like to bring a fresh but familiarity feeling in my design for my client. For the Frank needs, he has difficult to differentiating between colors with similar values, and he needs clear pathways. For this reason, I like to use to the Netherlands’ flag colors; they are red and blue that two lively colors in my design to help Frank to recognize the color and sapce.

I would like to thank all of you. Without you, this portfolio couldn't be completed. Thank you to the instructors of Academy of Art University. You taught me so much about this professional field. Thank you to the ESL tutors. As an international student, without your patience and enthusiasm, I would not have been able to express myself clearly. Thank you to my friends. You always stand by me when I am in need of help, either in the academic or mental aspect. Most importantly to my family. Without you, the dream of learning design in the United States would never have come true. You are the people who care about me the most in the world. Thank you for flying to the U.S. and taking care of me when I had a surgery. There will never be enough words to express my appreciation. Thank you. I love you.
