Introduction My name is Ting Yu Chen, from Taipei of Taiwan,. I live close to the Art-vocational high school since my childhood and there were many art shops nearby. These stores gave me a strong feeling and I think that’s the begging of my interest of beauty. Why I choose design instead of art is because of my personality, which is outgoing and talkative. As a designer, these characters are quite helpful. Making it easier for me to have conversations with others and expressive my thoughts fluently. I have passion on not only design but also my daily life. The ideas of works are usually come from my observation. Always enjoying the moment and always try my best to gain new knowledge, these are my method to keep my happiness. Also I really like taking challenges, so that I can experience new things and even know the limit of myself. Never afraid of trying! And about my interests, I really enjoy science and biology and it might related to my personality that really like to explode new things.
Study plan The main reason why I want to become an exchange student is to absorb various thoughts and different point of value. If we only want to broaden our horizon, we can do it in many different ways. For instance, maybe be an international volunteer or go on working holiday. However if we want to improve our profession, I think the best way is really learning in the institution, which is related to our specialty. Meeting great people and learning from each other must be so great. We can improve ourselves together with the sharing of skills and concepts. The style of teaching must be really different from east to west, really hope that I can make the best of these resources and keep moving on. First of all, I want to design a series of poster or illustration about what I see in Bristol. There will be 3 part of my design: language, people, view (especially the harbor and sea.) Still don’t know how will it display but I’ll try my best to make it impressive. Secondly, I want to have a little exhibition in this period if possible. What I plan to do is a little exhibition about the place I live when I studying in UWE, maybe can show in photographic or illustration. I think these are the main two things I plan to do when I am an exchange student in UWE.

Huajiang Wild Duck Nature Park is a wetland, which provides the habitat for migratory birds and local creatures. These bird illustrations are made for a guidebook of this nature park for elementary students to learn the species living here.

Christmas card design. I drew 3 different styles for Santa Claus, including the original red one, the cosplay Christmas tree and my favorite one, the formal style. The cards can separate in 3 parts, as result this three style can exchange by head, body and foot.

Lion Dance is traditional dancing in Chinese culture. Whenever there's a festival, lion dancers will go to every residence to wish the inhabitants good luck and drive out the devil by performing the Lion Dance. The book is separated in two parts, first part storage 4 lion masks which are able to take off and wear on face and the second part is the step of basic lion dance. With this book, young generation can put on the mask and follow the tip on the book, experiencing lion dance. a. Minnan lion / b. South lion / c. North lion / d. Hakka lion
In the original book, the first page shows the lion which is printed on transparent celluloid and the second page are people who showing how to do the dance. When children read this book, they can see the pose of dancing at first sight. Then they turn to next page to see how people dance.

This book collecting different hairstyles from west and east and form ancient to modern, totally around 250 different look of hair. The layout in the book are following these two different cultures, showing in horizon and vertical respectively. In order to display the detail of hair, we decided to draw these hairstyles with pencils. Digital 2012 59.4cm x 84.1cm The dodo is an extinct flightless bird that only lived for 200 years since human find it. And the main reason of this tragedy is human. Words like environment, care, protect are fading away and the dodo is vanishing at the same time. Hope this poster can make people aware of the importance of protecting nature.

Correspond these numbers with the index on the left part of this poster, people can try to figure out here they are. The square above the poster was design for the presentation. At that day, everyone in the classroom was given one memo with a number on it. When it was my turn to present, I asked everyone post their memo in the square with the order of numbers. In the end, the number in the square was 33, which was a symbol of the figure for people in this classroom, became part of my poster.

Birds living in Taipei Poster 2016 70cm x 100cm There are various creatures in Taiwan, including Taipei. Many tourists visit Taipei for 101, shopping and food. However, the birds in Taipei are also really unique and worth to discover. In order to express this fact, this Infographic is design for introducing the birds living in Taipei. This poster can be set in airport letting foreigners know what kinds of bird can be seen in Taipei. To introduce birds and habitat at the same time, I sorted these birds by the altitude of their habitat and show them appropriately. The icon of the birds are quite realistic (the shape, size and color), in order to express the right information about these animals. Also the habitat design in a low intensity, so that it won’t interfere birds icon but can tell the shape of terrains simultaneously.

Teas of Taiwan Digital 2015 42cm x 59.4cm Teas in Taiwan are famous for high quality and various kinds. The purpose of this poster is to introduce 3 main kinds of Taiwanese tea to foreigners, so that they can know which tea to buy or try. 3 up-side-down cups show the shape of mountain and also display different altitude for each tea’s source area. The forms of cups also suggest different teas to different people, for instance, the little green cup is designed in a cute shape for children.
