Using what i learned on the last post to start off the vase. + if you add sliders to the x,y, & z values of your point, you can change your model location any time.

T RY I NG SOME T HI NG NE W

I changed the circles to polygons + using the “range command i was able to get the polygons to change how many sides they have as you go up the curve

+ if you want to use the loft command on polygons with different segments, you have to use the rebuild curve command first.

ADDI NG A T WI ST

I added a rotate to my loft and duplicated my vase to try and get a spiral in the opposite direction + at first I wasn’t able to get the spiral to twist in the direction I wanted it to so i tried using a slider and eye ball the alignment

SOME CODE

If there is a way to duplicate an object without duplicating the code, let me know!

ADDI NG A T WI ST

Just playing around with the code to see what i can come up with + i figured out how to get the rotate in the direction i wanted. you just have to revers the angle.

J U S T S O M E I T E R AT I O N S

Lots of fun see how many objects you can make with just one line of code. + i realize some of these cannot be made into a vase but it was still a good learning opportunity

SPI OLLERS

I tried to print one of my spiral vases. It printed fine, but there were undercuts. + the print is really solid, but i think i just go carried away and forgot to realize the undercuts

SPI OLLERS

I tried to see if different variations would work + there where still too many undercuts to deal with.

AF TER REGROUPI NG

I tried to do something where the two would cross over + i wasn’t able to bend a curve that was made in rhino. if anyone knows how to do that, let me know!

BACK ON MY FEE T

I found a way to make a curve follow a curve path and bend a little. still not what i was after.

I followed a tutorial on how to use math and expressions, i still dont fully understand them. + some of the new commands i learned.

+ and a few more

+ this is the full command for making this work

BA K ED T HE MODEL I NTO RHI NO

I added an offset command to give the curve vase some thickness + this is much easier to do it grasshopper then rhino.

TRY I NG TO BOOLE AN

I can figure out how to boolean objects in grasshopper so I did it in rhino. + I took me a long time to do this... a very, very long time

R E A DY F O R P R I N T I N G

Finally finished all the booleans + during my first print i had both objects on one printer and it failed. i tried again with both models on different printers and they worked fine!

Half model and full model

T HE MOLDI NG

surprisingly, this was the easiest part + there were some concerns about getting my vase out of the mold because of the square edges. but it came out easily.

OOPS

I forgot to put the rubber bumpers on my model + some quick thinking and a carving knife and i managed

T HE END I S NE AR

the second half of my vase required some force to fit it in + good thing i still had the carving knife

DONE

My makeshift alignment holes worked perfectly + unfortunately there was some cracking on my second pore

TA K E AWAY S

I learned a lot on this project both about rhino and grasshopper and as well about ceramics + if you have a questions about the commands i used, here is my email charlton.olmos@auarts.ca

SLI P CASTI NG

I had to print some patches to fix some over hangs on my modle + i printed the orange piece and super glued it into place

PAT C H E S

I needed one more patch for the other side of the vase as well + also printed and super glued into place.

RE CASTI NG

one half of my mold was falling apart so re cased it with the newly printed patches

FI NAL SLI P CASTI NG

Once again i was limited by the covid-19 out break. I was only able to get two slip castings done, one of which was fired. I had planned on submitting a glazed version of my slip casing but was unable to do so. + maybe i can come back to school and do one in the fall
