The Tioga County Chamber of Commerce recognized the achievements and contributions of individuals and businesses that have made significant contributions to the Tioga County business community. Awards were presented at the chamber’s annual dinner which was held on February 3 at the

Owego Treadway Inn in Owego.

The presentation were made by Rick Annunziata from M&T Bank, and Jim Von Esch, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Tioga Chamber.

Boy Scouts of America troop 43 of Apalachin, NY is proud to announce that Nicholas Montesano (L) and Caleb Decker (R) have received the rank of Eagle Scout.

Nick is the son of Eileen and Gary Montesano and is a senior at Vestal High School. Nick is a member of the National Honor Society.

He has been on the Varsity Swim Team for the past four years as well as being a member of the Cross Country Team. Nick is active in the community, serving as a life guard at the Vestal Memorial Pool and working as a swim instructor at the Vestal High pool. For his Eagle Project, Nick designed and planted a new garden at the front of the Apalachin Library. Nick and his team also constructed a storage unit for the Library’s garbage and recycling bins.

Caleb is the son of Wendy and Matthew Decker and is a junior at Vestal High School. Caleb is a member of the Vestal Varsity Cross Country team. He is very active in

the community as a member of youth choir, Vice-President of the Senior High Youth, and teaches PreKindergarten Sunday school at the Vestal United Methodist Church.

Caleb has been serving at the Endicott First United Methodist Church’s soup kitchen for the past 13 years. He also has earned his Black Belt from Hidy Ochiai.

Caleb’s Eagle Project included repairing and painting the play ground for the Park Terrace Community Methodist Church’s pre-school and construction of a new bench for all to enjoy.

On January 9, 2011, an Eagle Court of Honor was held at Park Terrace Community Methodist Church in Apalachin. The event was attended by their fellow Scouts and Leaders of Troop 43. Also in attendance were many of their family members and friends as well as some local dignitaries. Troop 43 wishes Nicholas and Caleb congratulations and much success in the future.

Jack Frost Chicken Bar-B-Que It’s the taste you’ve waited for all winter! St. Patrick School Father’s Club will host its 17th annual Jack Frost Chicken Barbeque from noon to 6:30, Saturday, Feb. 19, at St. Patrick Church Hall, 300 Main St., Owego.

Tickets are now on sale from any school family or by calling the school office at 687-1770. For $7.50, the dinner includes a half chicken, baked beans, baked potato, roll with butter, and a brownie. Sodas will be available for purchase. An option is available to donate a hot meal to someone who otherwise might not be able to enjoy one.

Breakfast is Back The Nichols American Legion's Breakfast is Back. Breakfast will be available on the second and fourth Sundays of the month from 8 am to 11 am, at the American Legion in Nichols, the cost is $6 adults and $3 children.

The St. Patrick School Father’s Club uses money raised from the barbeque to fund technology and building projects at the school. Past projects have included building a new science lab, purchasing SMART Board projectors and playground equipment, installing an intercom system for the school’s front entrance, and the purchase and installation of new drinking water fountains.

Plumbing & Heating OPEN HOUSE January 15, Campville Fire Department held an open house for the public to recruit new members. Lt Brad Schuyler took charge and joined forces with Broome County to encourage community members to join the fire service.

Throughout the area there was a total to date of 21 new members joining neighboring departments. Thanks to Brad, Dave Hogg, Kevin Kotski, Martin Peterson and Al Peterson for your time and effort.

BOY SCOUTS On the same day, we had another group of members participating in a Rescue Outreach Program with the boy scouts at the Waterman Center. Chief Rob Ziemba, Captain Pat Mercer, Wesley Mozgawa, and Lt. JP Radzikowski taught eight boy scouts the art of low angle rope rescue. JP “volunteered” to be their patient as they carried him up the cliff, down the trail, back into the gorge and about ½ mile back to the center. Nice job done by all.

TRAINING January is always OSHA training which is required to keep all members up to date and safe on calls. The trainings bring us up to date on everyday safety concerns, health issues and reacquainting ourselves with apparatus and tools available for firefighting. To complete our OSHA training, Campville hosted a

“NYS Chemical Suicide Class” on Tuesday evening. This is an eye opening class on reactions to chemicals that people are using to commit suicide and how vulnerable we are as firefighters and first responders when we come on the scene. Scene Safety and coming home safe after a call is definitely on the minds of all who attended. The class was well attended by Campville members and neighboring departments. On the same subject of everyone coming home safe after a call, Campville hosted a “NYS Courage To Be Safe” course during the month. Congratulations to Marie Mead, Ruth Phelps, Gary Phelps, Wesley Mozgawa, Marten Peterson, Carl Laposky, Ken Schneider, and Patrick Mercer for their completion of the classes. Our “young” apprentices are attending the “NYS Firefighter I” course in Nichols. This is an extensive 29 week course that will teach them all the basics of firefighting. Good luck to Wesley Mozgawa, Bill Adams, Skyler Hamilton and Lenny King. Wesley is a third generation firefighter and Skyler is a second generation firefighter. Congratulations to our member Ken Schneider who has accepted the position of a NYS Fire Instructor in Tioga County.

Ken has a few training classes to attend at the academy and then we will be seeing him throughout Tioga County helping with and teaching courses.

St. Patrick School recently presented to Tioga County's 4H Youth Development Program a check for $1200.00 as a donation from the school's recent "Splendors of the Susquehanna" auction fundraiser. Each year, as a way to give back to the community that supports it, the school donates a portion of its auc-

Park Terrace Nursery School Open House Park Terrace Nursery School will host an open house for parents and their 3-5-year-old children from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m., Wed., March 2. “Trains of Yesteryear” Exhibit still chugging away…

Now is the time to visit the Tioga County Historical Society and see our “Trains of Yesteryear” exhibit.

The exhibit will be at the museum on 110 Front Street, Owego NY until March 1, 2011. Bring the children, and the “young-at-heart”, and enjoy this Ogauge Lionel train display.

The display features a NY Central Passenger Train set and an Erie Lackawanna freight train.

The museum is also raffling off two factory-sealed Lionel Train sets, the Polar Express and a Harry Potter Hogwart Express.

Raffle tickets are on sale in the museum’s gift shop. There’s still time to buy some tickets, the drawing for these O-gauge train sets will take place March 1st, 2011.

Other points of interest in the train display include a train town with 40 buildings, a unique and original hand painted background of Owego.

This painting was produced by local artists Carrie Dru Tornatore and Bette Diamo.

TCHS would like to thank them for their support of our exhibit and for creating such breath-taking scenery.

There is also a photo collage made up of photos of local steam engines, old train stations and a few historic derailments, a display cabinet of toy trains, some dating back to the 1900’s, a blueprint of a Lehigh Valley engine, compliments of Dan Sloat of Sayre PA, and a recently donat-

ed map of John Drake’s Reservation of Owego. The map is quite an interesting piece in itself, as is the story of John Drake and his goal of bringing the railroad to early Owego. TCHS would like to thank the Frauenhofer family for donating this unique piece to our museum.

Upstairs in the museum we still have our “Teddy Did It” exhibit, which highlights the history of Teddy Bear toys and other bear themed items. In our main gallery there are several cases of Ogden rifles, the Marlin dedicated by President Theodore Roosevelt to Owego resident Todd Loring, and Civil war items like locally produced currency, Lt. Benjamin Loring’s jacket, and several of our Mathew Brady prints. Our permanent collection of American Indian artifacts as well as our locally made Ives Motorcycle and Ross and Moore Buggy are also on display.

Admission to the museum is free, but donations are greatly appreciated. Museum hours are Tues - Sat. 10 - 4pm.

Coming in March, the Tioga County Historical Society museum will host an exhibit called “Time and Tines, Traditions in Clocks and Tableware.”

The Ti-Ahwaga Community Players will present Christopher Hampton's translation of Yasmina Reza's play "Art" on Feb. 11, 12, 13, and Feb. 18, 19, 20, at the TiAhwaga Performing Arts Center, 42 Delphine St., Owego, NY. "Art" reveals the humorous and moving reactions of Serge's two best friends, Marc and Yvan, when he invests in a large painting that is all white with some white lines. The resulting banter is funny, stylish and stimulating, and according to Newsweek, "Art" sounds like a marriage of Molière and Woody Allen."

The play is being directed by veteran actor and director Jamie Cornell, and the ensemble cast includes Joe Davis as Serge, Chris Pellicano as Marc and Brian Flynn as Yvan.

I had the opportunity to view a complete run through of the play in an early rehearsal and came away impressed. I had never seen or heard of it before and had no idea what to expect. While being billed as "the play that asks the question: What is Art?", I found it to be as much about

friendship as art.

It's a play that requires perfect timing and rapport between the actors to bring the witty dialogue to life. And these three experienced actors performed nearly flawlessly two and a half weeks before the play even opens. You'll laugh and giggle at their conversations and actually feel the tension in their arguments, and you will be moved by their friendship. Be forewarned, though, the language is definitely for adults.

Shows start at 8:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday with a general admission of $18 and at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday with a senior Sunday admission of $15 for those 60 and over. Lou Haskell joins Tioga Downs Race Office Tioga Downs is proud to announce that Lou Haskell will be joining the race office as Assistant Race Secretary during the 2011 race season. Haskell was born and raised in Saratoga Springs, New York and grew up in the business of horse racing since he was a toddler. He purchased his first horse at the age of seventeen and has been an active owner in the harness racing business his entire life.

Haskell graduated from SUNY Plattsburg with a degree in Marketing and up until four years ago had been a self-employed entrepreneur his entire life. Lou graduated from the USTA judges school at the top of his class just a few years ago, and for the past two years has served as an Associate Judge in Kentucky at The Red Mile.

"I made a decision a few years back that I really wanted to pursue a career on the management side of harness racing and now I am getting that opportunity. I am excited to be joining the team at Tioga to work

with some of the younger guys in the industry and to work for a company that cares about the future of harness racing" said Lou Haskell.

Apalachin Lions Club Scholarships 2011 The Apalachin Lions Club 24th Annual Scholarship program will award $3000 in scholarships to deserving students from the class of 2011 who live in the 13732, 13760 and 18830 zip codes. This covers Apalachin, Campville, NY and Little Meadows, PA. The scholarships are awarded to students who have made outstanding contributions in service to their community and school.

CSA Program Offered by Our Green Acres Our Green Acres, located just one mile west of the village of Owego is offering interested consumers the opportunity to join our CSA program. CSA stands for community supported agriculture. The concept of community supported agriculture is that consumers purchase a share in a farm, say for $400, for this they get an agreed amount of produce weekly usually during the summer and early fall months. Typically this produce is put together by the farmer and is picked up weekly by the consumer. The consumer has basically no say in what they get. In the example I've given the consumer would get 20 to 25 dollars worth of product weekly.

The benefit to the consumer of a CSA program is: • You feed your family nutritious fresh fruits and vegetables that were grown in an environmentally friendly way.

• You get unlimited u-pick access to certain crops • As a loyal customer you get a discount on prices, and first dibs on early or scarce crops The benefit to the farmer is that: • We have a predictable sales outlet for our produce • We get closer contact with our custom-

ers, giving us more opportunity to learn what you really like • We get income early in the season, when resources are at their lowest and expenses at their highest • Through this relationship we can better serve the nutritional needs of our community as we learn what you care about The Our Green Acres CSA is like the typical CSA but differs in that we operate on a debit system. The consumer sets up an account with an initial deposit at the following rates: $125 dollars buys you $135 worth of produce and $250 buys you $280. The consumer can, in season, get what produce they want, the amount they want when they want it.

They can monitor their account balance online. The consumer can renew their account as the season progresses. Produce can be picked up at the farm or at one of the farmers markets we participate in.

Early Tioga County was a "Land Before Time" This spring, The Tioga County Historical Society at 110 Front Street, Owego, NY, will exhibit rare early clocks that were made in Tioga County in the 1830's and 1840's.

When the first settlers travelled here in the late 1700's, they brought a lot of things with them. To start a new life in the wilderness they needed tools to clear land, cut trees and build homes. They needed guns to hunt for food until crops could grow. They needed some pots and cooking utensils, and extra clothes for cold weather. All of these things had to be brought with them; there was nothing here but the land, trees, the river, and some wild animals. A few settlers brought oxen or pack animals to help with the load, but many carried everything they brought on their backs. Something that none of the early settlers brought was a clock.

There were clocks in existence; many wealthy home-owners in the east coast area owned one. There were even clocks in the towers of some churches and public buildings.

But 18th Century clocks were expensive, fragile, and scarce. Practically all clocks were made in Europe, adding shipping expenses to the high costs of making clocks.

All clocks were hand-made, requiring many skills in working with a variety of different metals, forming tiny precision moving parts that were extremely difficult to assemble into a complete clock. America did not yet have a ready supply of the many different kinds of metal used in clocks, nor did we have the machinery to manufacture the metal parts.

Things changed in the early 19th Century, when some Connecticut craftsmen developed techniques to use American hard woods to replace metal. We didn't yet have metal foundries, but we had virgin forests and skilled woodworkers. European immigrants who had made clocks before coming here learned to use the native materials at hand to make

Within a few decades, almost every household had a clock. At the same time, Tioga County had reached a point when settlers were moving from log cabins into the first local mansions. Local villages were receiving charters. With civilization, came high schools, fire companies, and commercial transportation. Just looking at the sun's position in the sky was no longer good enough, but with the first of at least eight Tioga County men turning out clocks with Connecticut wooden works, local people were finally able to answer the question, "What time is it?"

Opening March 5, 2011, and continuing into August, the Tioga County Historical Society Museum at 110 Front Street in Owego will be exhibiting clocks of local importance. The feature of the exhibit will be more than a dozen wooden works clocks assembled in Tioga County between 1830 and 1850.

Carol Lynn Hires, 66, Ozawkie, KS., died Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at her home in Ozawkie. She was born September 27, 1944 at Tinker Field Air Force Base, Oklahoma, the daughter of Kenneth Dell and Marjorie F. Spiller Olson. She was a 1962 graduate of Abilene, KS., High School and attended Kansas State University as well as Northwestern University.

She earned a B.S. degree in Social Sciences from the University of Binghamton, New York. She had lived in Ozawkie 12 years after moving from Apalachin, New York. Carol had worked as a Dental Hygienist and as a Caseworker for the New York Division of Youth and as a Family Mediator for the state of New York. She was a member of the Ozawkie Way of The Cross United Methodist Church and was a longtime volunteer and member of the Friends of the Oskaloosa Public Library in Oskaloosa, KS. Carol was married to Albert P. Hires on October 11, 1969 at Abilene, he survives at the home in Ozawkie. She is also survived by

her Mother, Marjorie F. Olson, Abilene, KS., one daughter, Kimberly (Dan) Smith, Copper Hill, VA., one brother, Gary D. Olson, DVM., Lawrence, KS., and two grandchildren, Abby Rose Smith and Tegen Daniel Smith, both of Copper Hill, VA. She was preceded in death by her Father, Kenneth Olson.

United Way VITA Volunteers to Prepare Tax Returns In cooperation with the United Way of Broome County, the Tioga United Way will be offering A Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) no fee income tax return service for Tioga County residents who meet the eligibility requirements. The service will be offered on an appointment only basis. The

United Way of Broome County 2-11 call center will be utilized for scheduling the appointments.

CSA Program Offered by Our Green Acres Our Green Acres, located just one mile west of the village of Owego is offering interested consumers the opportunity to join our CSA program. CSA stands for community supported agriculture. The concept of community supported agriculture is that consumers purchase a share in a farm, say for $400, for this they get an agreed amount of produce weekly usually during the summer and early fall months. Typically this produce is put together by the farmer and is picked up weekly by the consumer.

The consumer has basically no say in what they get. In the example I've given the consumer would get 20 to 25 dollars worth of product weekly.

The benefit to the consumer of a CSA program is: • You feed your family nutritious fresh fruits and vegetables that were grown in an environmentally friendly way.

• You get unlimited u-pick access to certain crops • As a loyal customer you get a discount on prices, and first dibs on early or scarce crops The benefit to the farmer is that: • We have a predictable sales outlet for our produce • We get closer contact with our cus-

tomers, giving us more opportunity to learn what you really like • We get income early in the season, when resources are at their lowest and expenses at their highest • Through this relationship we can better serve the nutritional needs of our community as we learn what you care about The Our Green Acres CSA is like the typical CSA but differs in that we operate on a debit system. The consumer sets up an account with an initial deposit at the following rates: $125 dollars buys you $135 worth of produce and $250 buys you $280.

The consumer can, in season, get what produce they want, the amount they want when they want it. They can monitor their account balance online. The consumer can renew their account as the season progresses. Produce can be picked up at the farm or at one of the farmers markets we participate in.

Contractual agreement reached between STHHA and Tioga Downs The Southern Tier Harness Horsemen's Association and Tioga Downs have agreed to and executed a five year agreement that begins in 2011. In the new contract, the STHHA has increased its number of live race days at Tioga Downs from fifty seven to sixty one days per year. The contract also states that as long as the horse supply is sufficient Tioga Downs will have twelve races on Fridays and Saturdays with thirteen races on Sundays, with the exception of nights fireworks have been scheduled.

In the new contract the administration payment paid to the STHHA by Tioga Downs has been increased from 3.5% to 4%. Written into the contract is $25,000 from the STHHA that is to be matched by Tioga Downs for charities and promotional activities each year for the duration of the contract.

Tioga Downs will open the backstretch on April 1st and the barn

area and racetrack will remain open through September 30th as agreed upon in the five year deal.

"We are happy that we were able to work with management to get more races and a few more race dates at Tioga for our horsemen. We figure that with going the extra race days and races that we will be able to have about eighty to ninety more races than we had in 2010" said Guy Howard, President of the STHHA. "It is nice to work with the STHHA because they are realistic in their wishes, both sides came to the table and hammered out a five year deal that is good for both the horsemen and management" said Jason M. Settlemoir, VP of Racing and Simulcast.

Letter To The Editor: Gas Drilling In NYS Most opinions I've read regarding gas drilling in NYS are pretty much just what they propose, passing gas. How refreshing to read Mark Trabucco's letter to the editor on hydrofracking. Mark presents a clear and reasonable understanding of what's at stake. Giving up our water supply for gas is a no brainer.

The current gas extraction process is unsafe and no amount government regulation will make it safe Without strict enforcement and oversight, any rules will be violated.

Do speed limits stop people from speeding? Does the sight of flashing red lights in the rear view mirror?

The gas drilling industry is coming to NYS. There is no stopping it.

Some ideas I've heard to minimize the risk of the hydrofracking process are: 1- Find safe alternatives to the toxic fracking fluids 2- Complete and accurate rules and regulations 3- Adequate DEC staffing to ensure compliance 4- Public oversight - no secrets 5- Webcams at every drill site with public internet access 6- Issue one trial permit to each drilling company. After one year, review and update regulations, and issue additional permits to only the best companies.

After the huge success of spring 2010’s exhibit of guns that played a role in Tioga County’s history, it was decided to follow in spring 2011 with an exhibit of local clocks and silverware. The Tioga County Historical Society owns clocks made by a number of clockmakers in Owego, Newark Valley, and Candor.

These are wooden works clocks that date back to well before the Civil War. In a similar time frame, the same merchants that sold clocks also sold silverware. As far as is known, Owego was the only village in the county that had silversmiths, but there were at least six men here that made silverware. A wide variety of pieces that were made for local tables will be shown.

TCHS is inviting local residents to help with these special exhibits by loaning relevant items for the exhibit. Do you own a clock that is related to our local history? For example, one person is loaning a clock that was a retirement gift from IBM Owego to his father, and to many other local retirees, a number of years ago. Do you perhaps have a clock that has some local significance? How about an advertising clock from a Tioga County business?

In the area of silverware, two former residents of the area are loaning some scarce spoons that were made by local silver-maker Watson Hoskins for a member of the McMaster family, the first private property owners in Tioga County. A local couple are loaning some rare Owego-made forks, serving pieces, and a knife. We could use some tableware that was made for use in local hotel dining rooms or restaurants. How about souvenir spoons showing Tioga County scenes?

Many local souvenir spoons were beautifully handengraved.

If you think you might have an item that would add to the exhibit please contact the museum with details as soon as possible. We really appreciate all offers of items and information. Do not bring the item in until you are requested to do so. The exhibit will open around the fifth of March, 2011 and continue until late August.

Kevin Millar to Run For Village of Owego Trustee

I am announcing my candidacy for Village of Owego Trustee. The past few years have been marked by intense polarization in village government. I am running as an independent candidate and hope that I can bridge the gap. My platform is rather simple. Open transparent governing. Minimizing village expenses. Valuing the quality of life in Owego.

Planning for a more difficult governing environment as New York State budget cuts hit village government. The Village of Owego Facility Committee has been looking into more efficient use of village properties and offices and this is something I will look into further and, if feasible, implement. An issue of grow-

ing concern is the intensity of industrial activity in some areas. I will look into facets of this that are having negative impacts in residential areas and how they can be mitigated.

I have served on the Village of Owego Board, the Planning Board and was chairman of the planning board for two years. I was very active in Preserve Owego Downtown ( POD ) which worked to stop the Tioga County Court and Legislature from moving to a location out of downtown Owego. I was a founding member of Owego Revitalization & Betterment Corp ( ORBC ) a 501c3 which was formed to improve the quality of life in Owego.

I initiated the Owego Street Tree Commission and helped get the Cornell Urban Forestry SWAT Team do a street tree inventory of Owego trees to help guide maintenance and replacement of street trees. Another initiative I took was to start an Owego Community Garden off Sheldon Guiles Blvd. that was for residents who wanted to grow vegetables but needed a plot or a little gardening help.

St. Patrick Day Parade Binghamton’s Annual St Patricks Day Parade will be held on Saturday March 5 starting at 1:30 p.m. after an

11:30 mass at Saint Mary’s Church. The theme of this years parade is “Ireland Land of Saints and Scholars”.

4-H Tractor & Machinery Certification Program The Tioga County 4-H Tractor and Machinery Operations Training and Certification program will begin Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011 in the Tioga County Office Building Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. The cost of the program is $30.00 for non 4-H members and $20.00 for 4-H members.

The training program will enable youth 14 and 15 years of age, who wish to work as a hired employee for someone other than a parent or legal guardian, and operate a farm tractor that is 20hp or greater, to obtain the U.S. Department of Labor’s Hazardous Occupations Order in Agriculture (HOOA) certification. The program will provide participants with the required 24 hours of instruction, and it will include group discussions, demonstrations, field trips, hands-on activities, independent study, and field assignments.

Youth will receive instruction in the safe operation of agricultural tractors and related machinery. Certification upon completion of the educational phase of the program will include a written examination, a tractor and machinery skills demonstration, and a tractor and machinery -driving course. Participants must receive a minimum passing score of 70% in each test area to be issued a

certificate of completion.

The program is available to anyone 12 years of age and older, however only individuals 14 and older will be able to operate equipment and receive a certificate of completion. Individuals over age 15 are encouraged to attend as well. The top six participants will be eligible to participate in the New York State 4-H Tractor Operator’s Contest at the annual Empire Farm Days event.

Registration forms and brochures can be picked up in advance from the Cornell Cooperative Extension, Tioga County Office, 56 Main St., Owego, NY. Parents/guardians must attend the first meeting and are encouraged to attend the remaining classes. Participants (with a parent) can register at the orientation meeting but should plan to arrive early to complete the required forms before the class starts. Students must complete all classes before receiving a certificate.

The remaining classes will be held at various farm and equipment dealers in Tioga County from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on the following dates: Wednesdays, Feb. 23; and March 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30. Two classes will be held on Saturdays, March 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and April 2, from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

Open House and Registration at St. Patrick School St. Patrick School in Owego has begun registration for the 2011-2012 school year and will host an open house from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 15. The school, located at 309 Front St. in the village, serves students of all faiths from ages 3 through fifth grade. During the open house, parents and teachers will provide guided tours and answer questions, and teachers will have the curriculum available for review. The open house is a perfect opportunity to visit classrooms during a typical school day.

Early kindergarten registration is strongly encouraged. Children 5 years-old on or before Dec. 1, 2011, are eligible for kindergarten. In addition to grades kindergarten through fifth, St. Patrick School also offers two early-education programs: one for 3-year-olds and pre-kindergarten for ages 4 and 5. These programs are

available as full or half days, two to five days a week.

St. Patrick School stresses high academic quality and achievement in its students with a curriculum that follows state standards and the higher academic standards set by the Diocese of Rochester. Tioga United Way Extends 2011 Campaign Mr. Jason Settlemoir, Campaign Chairperson for the 2011 Tioga United Way Campaign has announced that he will be extending the campaign, which began in the fall of 2010, until February 15th. While a multitude of Tioga County residents and businesses have stepped up, and some have even increased their donations over what they gave in the past, Mr. Settlemoir reluctantly recognizes the impact that our local economy and increased levels of unemployment have taken upon donations in general. Simply put, he has hopes

that with one final push, the campaign goal of $330,000 will eventually be reached. This is important to Mr. Settlemoir, who is one who does not give up easily, because he realizes how important the donations are to the 32 member agencies which rely upon the financial support of the Tioga United Way.
