Valentines in the Windows in Owego
The Owego Kiwanis have brought back the fun, time-honored, small town tradition of "Messages from the Heart -In the Heart of Owego." Young artists are asked to create a personal Valentine which will be displayed in the windows of the stores in downtown Owego, and judged by community leaders on Valentines Day. The deadline for handing in Valentines is February 8. Valentines will be picked up at local schools that participate. Individuals or special groups may drop off Valentines at M&T Bank, 195 Front Street in Owego. Valentines will be placed in the windows starting Saturday, February 9. Judging will be for Grades 3 through 6, and for Grade 2 and younger. Categories are: most beautiful, funniest, and most original. Unless specifically requested, no
Valentines will be returned. The stores are expected to remove the Valentines around February 16. Valentines should be no larger than an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper. Only the front side of the Valentine will be visible from the street. The back of the Valentine should identify the artist only by school grade, Kindergarten through Sixth Grade, or by age, preschool, with a school and teacher's name if appropriate. Attach a separate sheet, and the Valentine will get a code and Kiwanis will safeguard your information. The Valentines may be to a family member, friend, or public servant (police, fire, emergency worker, etc.) They should be non-political and in good taste. For more information, contact Wayne at (607) 624-0796 at the Owego Kiwanis.
