Tioga Downs Seventh Season - May 5 - Sept 15

Tioga Downs has announced its seventh racing season for 2012 starting on May 5 and ending on September 15. There will be 61 days of racing this season. Apalachin Highway Clean Up Would you like to Help?

The Apalachin Lions Club held their 57th Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 31, behind the TLC-BOCES School on Pa Ave. The children hunted for eggs marked with certain numbers. Children who found the specially marked eggs received prizes. Children who did not win a prize were able to redeem their eggs for a chocolate bunny. The Apalachin Lions Club also held an Eye Screening. Tioga County Sheriff Dept. provided free kids ID’s.

Women's History Program Offered in Owego

The Apalachin Lions club is looking for help with clean up of Rt 434 on Saturday, April 21, 9 am. The clean up crew will meet at Beam Electronics on Rt 434. The amount of time normally spent is approximately 2 hours to pick up trash on a three-mile stretch of Rt 434 in Apalachin. Please bring gloves, and dress for the weather. The Susquehanna Chapter of New York State Women Inc in conjunction with the Tioga County Historical Society is pleased to invite the public to a special program in honor of Women’s History Month, on Thursday, April 12, at 1:00 pm, at the Tioga County Historical Society Museum,110 Front Street in Owego. Park Ranger John Stoudt from Women’s Rights National Historical Park will present a PowerPoint talk entitled, “A Call for Equality: An Introduction to the 1848 Women's Rights Convention in Seneca Falls.” Ranger Stoudt will explore the events and ideas which formed the background for the Women’s Rights Convention. “The National Park Service preserves, protects, and interprets sites of historical significance. Women’s Rights National Historical Park preserves the sites asso-

ciated with the First Women’s Rights Convention,” said Stoudt. This introductory program will identify the people, including Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott, who proposed political equality and economic opportunity in 1848 for women. “Women’s Rights National Historical Park contains stories of the people and the events of that era,” said Stoudt. “I am excited to be able to share these stories with visitors.” This program will last approximately 30 minutes with time for questions following the program.
