154th Tioga County Fair - August 10 - 14

The Tioga County Fair will run Tuesday, August 10, through Saturday, August 14, with lots of exciting attractions on tap for the Biggest Event in Tioga County this year. Starting Tuesday night, August 10, the fully sanctioned Painted Pony Championship Rodeo thunders into town with competitors from all over the world. Come experience bull riding, barrel racing, calf roping, and more. Saturday’s, August 14, feature event is the Famous Outlaw Pulling series Tractor and Truck Pulls. Wednesday, August 11, and Friday, August 13, crowd favorites are the Demolition Derbies with multiple heats and Big Cash Prizes. Don’t miss the spectacular fireworks show on Thursday, August 12. Once again, the fair will host the Gillette family carnival. The Gillette family always brings spectacular rides and a fabulous mid-

way with games and lots of your favorite fair food. The Tioga County 4H Youth program is ready to show you what they have been up to all year. See them in the newly renovated agriculture barns. Plus a zoo, arts and crafts, local vendors and more. Best of all, with a special $10 daily admission, you can ride all the rides, see all the shows, and enjoy free parking, too. This is the best County Fair deal in all of New York State.

Tioga Downs Summer Concert Series Started with Blood, Sweat & Tears

Tioga Downs started their Summer Concert Series with Blood, Sweat & Tears on July 29. The second act in this series is Tanya Tucker on Friday August 20. Tucker is a country musician who had her first hit in 1972 when she was 13, and has continued to create hit after hit since then. Tickets are $20 and 100% of the sales will benefit the Southern Tier Veterans Support Group. Finishing up the summer concert is Cheap Trick on September 10, sponsored by Tioga State Bank. This Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame inductee has been making headlines since 1974 and plans to continue rocking

at Tioga Downs late summer. Tickets are $30 for general admission and $50 for reserved seats. Tanya Tucker and Cheap Trick tickets will be on sale at the Tioga Downs Casino Resort gift shop and online at ticketmaster.com. Tioga Downs, which opened in 2006, and expanded to Tioga Downs Casino Resort in December 2016, offers live harness racing, casino gaming, sports betting, dining, golf, indoor and outdoor live entertainment, and more. Applications Sought for Floyd Hooker Youth Fund The Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers (CFTT) is seeking applications for grants that will benefit the youth of Tioga County, New York. These grants will be awarded from the Floyd Hooker Youth Fund at the Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers. The 2021 amount available to grant is $21,650. This is open to governmental or non-profit organizations that benefit the youth of Tioga County, NY. Floyd Hooker was a resident of Owego who dedicated a portion of his estate to benefit the children and youth of Tioga County. is 5:00 pm Thursday, October 21. The 2021 grant recipients must have completed their grant report before a new application. Founded in 2003, the Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers serves 5 counties, Bradford, Potter, Sullivan and Tioga Counties, PA and Tioga County, New York. The Foundation is committed to building philanthropic resources that will sustain healthy and vital communities now and into the future. The Foundation currently manages over 115 funds valued at over $8 million dollars and has awarded over $1.2 million in grants and scholarships since inception, positively impacting hundreds of lives in the region. The Tioga County Republican Committee held their annual dinner on July 24 at the Tioga Country Club in Nichols. Speakers at the dinner included local and state candidates. Senator Fred Akshar thanked everyone for their continued support over the past six years. He also introduced Mayor Rich David (Binghamton) who will be running for the 52nd District Senate seat in 2022. NYS Attorney General Candidate, Michael Henry (Queens) introduced himself to the attendees as well as NYS

Supreme Court Justices Elizabeth Aherne (Tompkins) and Patrick O’Sullivan (Madison). Joe Sempolinski, a candidate for Congress, also shared his views on local and national issues. A pre-dinner cocktail reception was held with Congresswoman Claudia Tenney. She updated attendees on national legislation and took questions. The keynote speaker was Congressman Lee Zeldin who shared his views on national and state issues. He laid out his vision to run for governor.
