Little Meadows Bank to Close
Photo by Fred Brown Jr. ©2001
This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the events of September 11, 2001, when terrorists hijacked commercial jets and attacked the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Never Forget & Always Remember September 11, 2001. Never Forget & Always Remember those who died, those who survived, and those brave heroes who answered the call to help others. Among those who answered the call to help others were members of Tioga County, NY, Fire Departments (see photos below)
The Community Bank in Little Meadows will close on September 10. The bank located is located at 1033 Maple Street (Pennsylvania Avenue) in Little Meadows. In 1968, County National Bank
opened on November 23 in Little Meadows. Bank customers will now have to go to the Community Bank in Montrose or Owego.

The Board of Trustees and the Executive Director of the Coburn Free Library in Owego are very happy to announce the opening of the Library’s Accessible Elevator Annex. Thanks to the Finger Lakes library construction grant, the Downtown Rehabilitation Initiative, local foundation grants, and many individual donations, the library is accessible to all. A public library is the cornerstone of a community. It has the capacity to pull together all parts of its community—for education, information, enrichment, and the simple joy of borrowing a favorite book. A public library cannot do all these things if some of its members cannot access the building. Some of Coburn Library’s patrons have had difficulty using the library - the elderly, those with mobility issues, parents with strollers. Join the library in celebrating by at-
tending the official ribbon cutting ceremony at 3:00 pm on Thursday, September 16, followed by an Open House from 3:00 to 6:00pm. Coburn Library is at 275 Main Street in Owego. For more information, go to https://coburnfreelibrary.org/ or call the library at 687-3520.

The Apalachin Lions Foundation recently received a grant for $3,151 from the Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation. The grant completes funding for a new storage facility for supplies and equipment used by the Apalachin Lions for their community service projects and fundraising efforts. In addition to the Mildred Faulkner Truman grant, the Apalachin Lions Foundation was awarded two additional grants for this project: From the Community Foundation for South Central New York ($5,000 from its Small Grants Program) and a matching grant of $5,000 from the New York State and Bermuda Lions Foundation. These grant funds and matching funds from the Apalachin Lions Foundation allow the Apalachin Lions to move ahead with construction with completion expected by late fall 2021.
The Apalachin Lions Foundation and its members gratefully acknowledge these three foundations for their generous and meaningful support of this project. The Apalachin Lions also recognize the cooperation of the Town of Owego Board members and staff in facilitating the location of the new storage facility in an available section of Muth Park in Apalachin. The Apalachin Lions Club members have served the Apalachin and nearby communities since 1956 with a variety of service projects including Christmas Baskets, Back-To-School, scholarships, highway cleanup, youth eye screenings, eyeglasses/hearing aids, temporary loan of medical equipment and others.
